[Breaking news] It seems that Ice Cream is no longer available. Took a stroll from the station and finally visited Akasan Kadoya, the most troublesome place! However, to my surprise, they no longer serve ice cream or desserts. So, I had the squid yakisoba instead. The dough was very simple and the sauce was mild. The squid was delicious! I wanted to try their unique ice cream, but it seems they won't be offering it again. I hope to be able to try it again someday.

During the hot summer, it has become a tradition to visit the Showa retro Kadoya stores, known for their B-grade ice desserts. I have visited various Kadoya stores such as Kadoya, Kadoya Higashiten, Yodogawa Kadoya, Akaiichi Kadoya, and Kadoya Shouten, but the only one I hadn't been to was Akasan Kadoya. Finally, I visited the last unvisited store, Akasan Kadoya. What I saw there was a soft-serve ice cream machine covered in dust, unused for a long time. They used to serve sweets before, but now they no longer offer any sweets. The current menu consists of only okonomiyaki, takoyaki, and squid grilled. Since they didn't have the ice desserts I was looking for, I decided to have a beer and some squid grilled instead. The squid grilled tasted average, but I am satisfied with having visited all the Kadoya stores. 3-13-33 Akagawa, Asahi-ku, Osaka City.

I think this is a branch of Akai Kadoya. I wonder if it's related to Yodogawa Kadoya. While other stores have good ratings, this one has only 3.0 stars. I visited while thinking about this. The exterior looks like a traditional Japanese confectionery shop. The menu includes squid balls and okonomiyaki, but I chose the ice cream monaka because it seemed freshly made. It cost 70 yen. The ice cream inside was sticky. I wonder if they added something to achieve this texture. Personally, I don't like this texture. The price is cheap, so I have no complaints, but the staff seemed indifferent, making my visit feel like a mere obligation. It was a difficult place to write a review about.

From my parents' home at Hankyu Awaji Station, you can walk along the Yodogawa River and cross the iron bridge over the Akagawa to reach Akasankadoya. It takes about 30-40 minutes on foot. Located next to an elementary school, this place attracts many customers looking for a quick bite to eat. In this day and age, the existence of such a nostalgic atmosphere restaurant is quite precious. However, the shaved ice (200 yen) and squid yakisoba (250 yen) might be a bit pricey for children's allowances. I visited in the evening when the heat was starting to subside, but I couldn't resist ordering the shaved ice... It had been a long time. The strawberry syrup flavor was just like it used to be (the kind that turns your tongue bright red). I couldn't wait to try the squid yakisoba, and as I dug in eagerly, the inevitable "ouch, ouch, ouch" of brain freeze hit me... Can't help it, can I? And then the squid yakisoba was ready. The batter looked soft, with plenty of moisture still inside. When I broke it open with my chopsticks, I found plenty of squid pieces inside. Ah, with this much squid, it's worth the price. The sauce brings out the flavor of the squid in the cooked batter. So delicious! Squid is just inherently tasty (laughs). Personally, I prefer a firmer texture with less moisture, but that's just personal preference. The landlady mentioned that tomorrow is the Tenjin Festival.

After eating shaved ice at Akai Kadoya, I heard there was a similar shop nearby and decided to visit even though I couldn't eat any more ice. I heard they have grilled squid, so I thought I'd try that instead. The shop I visited was called "Akasan Kadoya" and it's located in Akagawa 3-chome, hence the name Akasan. It's right near Jokita Elementary School, so it might be hard to find unless you have a car or are a local. We parked at a nearby coin parking lot and entered the shop. Inside, there was only an older man. The shop, which didn't have air conditioning, was quite tough to bear. The menu was much simpler compared to Akai and Higashi stores. I didn't want shaved ice, so I ordered grilled squid. My companion ordered shaved ice. I wonder what we'll get. The mother of the shop owner also came in later. They served water with ice, but I wish it was a bit colder. When making the shaved ice, they used regular ice, which seemed to have depleted the ice for my water. They didn't seem to have much of a preference for shaved ice. After sweating and waiting, the grilled squid arrived. Hmm. This for 250 yen... Upon tasting it, the squid was indeed there, but it felt a bit powdery. Considering the portion, 250 yen seems a bit expensive. I finished it quickly. Well, my appetite wasn't that big to begin with, but even considering that, it was quite tough. By the way, my companion's shaved ice had coarser ice compared to other shops. Hmm. If I had visited Akai Higashi first and this was the third stop, my impression might have been different, but this was quite disappointing...

I finally found "Akasan Kadoya" in Asahi Ward, "Kadoya Higashi Store" in Asahi Ward, "Yodogawa Kadoya" in Yodogawa Ward, and "Kadoya Shoten" in Moriguchi City this summer. And this time, I found "Akasan Kadoya" in Asahi Ward. It took me four tries to finally be able to eat ice cream there. The exterior looks modern, different from the previous Kadoya stores. I tried something different this time - squid yakisoba for 250 yen. It had a generous amount of squid, similar to the deluxe version at Hanshin Snack Park. However, I found it a bit pricey. I also tried a different flavor of ice cream mochi - matcha ice cream mochi for 150 yen. It had a slightly sticky texture, different from other stores. By the way, the vanilla ice cream mochi is 100 yen. Only one store left.

KADOYA World in Akagawa 3-chome is the most difficult shop to find. There is hardly any information online, and the atmosphere of the store has changed significantly due to renovations. With the help of the artist "Beard Painter" from "Udon Impressionism," we were able to finally locate it. They also serve grilled squid here, which is delicious with high-quality eggs and squid. However, the price of 250 yen is a bit too much. The ice cream monaka is priced at 100 yen, and the quality of the cream is different from other stores, with a slightly sticky texture. Monaka with flavors like matcha is priced at 150 yen. The prices are quite high, making it not easy for children to buy snacks. The target customers are clearly adults. The shop is located right next to an elementary school, which feels a bit strange.
