This is a tofu shop located just a short walk from Nishitetsu Hirao Station. On the first floor, they sell homemade soy products such as tofu and fried tofu. The second floor is a dining space. They open in the morning and offer breakfast, lunch, and even transform into an izakaya at night. I had breakfast there and ordered the "Mamedofu set meal". It includes miso soup (small), daily side dishes, choice of 2 items, soy milk, and rice. The Mamedofu set meal costs 660 yen. The daily side dish was okara. I chose freshly made tofu and okara croquette as my side dishes. The highlight was the miso soup. It was creamy and mild, with a hint of ginger that made it really delicious. I wish I had ordered a large size of the miso soup. The tofu was also very tasty, with a rich soy flavor. I would like to try the fried tofu made from this tofu. I should have chosen fried tofu instead of okara croquette. Also, the rice was delicious. Breakfast is all about rice, and this shop, which serves such delicious tofu, pays attention to the rice as well. I recommend it to those who want to enjoy a moist breakfast from the morning. Thank you for the meal.

I went to have breakfast first thing in the morning. They always used to be sold out of freshly made tofu, but this time they had it, so I ordered the tofu set meal and chose the freshly made tofu. It was really delicious! It was so good that I felt it would be a waste to put soy sauce on it, so I just ate the tofu on its own. The thick fried tofu and miso soup were consistently delicious.

In August 2023, I visited a wonderful restaurant where you can enjoy freshly made tofu and thick fried tofu for breakfast. The first floor is a tofu shop and the second floor is a restaurant. I arrived before 9 am on a weekday, but unfortunately the freshly made tofu was already sold out. So I ordered the Tofu Set Meal where you can choose two side dishes, and I chose thick fried tofu and okara croquette. I was disappointed that I couldn't try the freshly made tofu, but to my delight, the side dish was tofu! I was so happy. The tofu was fluffy and delicious on its own, but it was also tasty with wasabi and soy sauce. The miso soup was spicy and filled with plenty of tofu. The freshly made rich soy milk and shiny Hitomebore rice were also delicious. You can have unlimited pickles and one free rice refill. I wished I could have this kind of healthy breakfast every day. It helped me adjust my stomach after eating too much the previous day. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

◉Genre: Tofu cuisine specialty store, Breakfast ◉Area: Hirao area, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City ◉Access: 5 minutes on foot from Nishitetsu Hirao Station ◉Parking: None (coin parking available nearby) ◉Credit card payment: Not available ◉Number of visits: First visit ◉Number of reviews: 1st review On this day, I casually visited "Mamefuji Katohonten" in Hirao. ◇Exterior and Interior This tofu shop is located in Hirao, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City. Operating in a traditional Japanese house, it exudes a nostalgic atmosphere while incorporating modern elements. It is rare in this area to offer breakfast, with a variety of dishes made with tofu. ◇Seating The first floor is for selling tofu and other products, while the second floor is where you can enjoy breakfast. ◇Menu Structure On the first floor, they sell silk tofu, mixed tofu, sesame tofu, croquettes, bento boxes, and more. For breakfast, they offer set meals, which can be seen in the 10th photo. The items I ordered are as follows: - Tofu Shumai (120 yen) → including tax I visited Fukuoka City to see a friend, and decided to stop by Hirao since I couldn't pass up a tofu shop being a tofu lover. I bought cotton tofu, tofu shumai, and tofu croquettes. They were all delicious, but the tofu shumai stood out for its smooth texture, truly showcasing the essence of tofu as a side dish. The texture was well thought out, and it was tasty even without any additional seasonings. Maybe just a bit of salt, but tofu is just delicious! ◆Strong Points A must-visit for tofu lovers! ◆Customer Service Polite. ◆Summary A hit from the first place. I'll just convince myself that I'm lucky on days like this. Thank you for the meal! ^ ^

I went to have breakfast. You order on the first floor and go up to the second floor by stairs. I was really impressed when I first tried the thick fried tofu here. It was crispy and fluffy. I have never encountered a more delicious thick fried tofu before or since. The miso soup is also really delicious, I can finish a large bowl in no time. I keep coming back to this place over and over again.

Make-up work on Saturday. As usual, lunchtime is free. (laughs) I took the Nishitetsu train to Hirao Station. The purpose this time is "Mamedo" restaurant. I heard recently that they opened a branch in Kurume. The restaurant is located 10m south of the Hirao Nishi intersection. I arrived at 11:30. The restaurant is smaller than I expected, with a traditional atmosphere. The main dishes are tofu-based, and the first floor serves as the register and sales area. When I told the staff it was my first time, they asked if I was there for a meal and guided me to the second floor. The second floor has counter seats along the wall. I was lucky to get a seat by the window where I could overlook the intersection. I found a menu item called "Choose Mamedo Set Meal (650 yen, tax included)." It consists of rice, miso soup (small), and a choice of three side dishes. If you leave the side dishes up to them, you get a 50 yen discount on the Mamedo set meal. I decided to go for the Mamedo set meal. The service time was about 10 minutes. During that time, I prepared the self-serve pickles. There was green tea for the cold drink, and next to it was a cooler box with crushed ice inside. The dishes arrived. The three small plates had hijiki, lotus root kinpira, and something like chilled tofu. It was smaller than I expected. I tried them as a break between bites of rice and miso soup, but it was not enough for an adult male. I discreetly looked around and noticed that most people had ordered an extra dish. (The woman next to me had ordered two dishes.) Now I understand why the staff asked, "Is that all right?" when I ordered. The rice is one bowl, and refills are free, so of course, I had a refill! The famous miso soup had a unique ethnic flavor. It seemed to have a hint of ginger. The tofu had a silky smooth texture. The soup showcased the uniqueness of this restaurant and was quite delicious. When I went downstairs to pay, it was 660 yen. Later, I checked the material image I took in the restaurant and indeed, the tax-inclusive display was written in small letters separately. Separate display in this day and age... When I left, there were people waiting in line outside, showing that it's a popular restaurant. Now that I understand the system, I'm looking forward to enjoying it more next time. Thank you for the meal.

I was eager to visit this restaurant recommended by Nakajima. I went there for breakfast on a weekday morning. It was great that they open at 8 am. The exterior and interior of the restaurant are very cute. This time, I ordered the Mamefu set meal (600 yen). The side dishes I could choose from were freshly made tofu and okara croquette. Rice is free for one refill. There is self-service for tea, water, and pickles. There are three types of pickles available. The hot bean soup had a large piece of tofu in it, and it was very comforting. Delicious! Adding shichimi spice gave it a nice kick. The okara croquette had a rich flavor even without any sauce, allowing you to enjoy the taste of okara. It was crispy and delicious. I thought the side dishes would be served cold since they were also sold as takeout, but they came out hot! I was so happy!! The freshly made tofu had a soothing taste and was incredibly delicious. It had a gentle flavor that was good for the body. The soy milk was so rich! It was the type of soy milk I love. I could easily drink three cups of it! The daily side dish was beans for me! My friend had spinach! The beans had a satisfying texture and were very tasty! The rice was Oita's Hitomebore, and it was incredibly delicious. Of course, I had a rice refill. They gave us quite a generous refill, so we split it in half. It was delicious! I also ordered an additional menchi-katsu, which was freshly fried and incredibly delicious! Juicy!! A healthy morning set meal! I was very satisfied!

I went before and it was delicious, so I tried to go again on Friday morning but it was closed. I asked this morning and they said the gas wasn't working well. Before, you could go in without waiting, but today there was quite a line. I wish they would decide whether to line up on the right or left side in front of the store. The tofu was sold out, so I got the tofu steak set with thick fried tofu, and it was delicious! It was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside! I'll try to go again if I can wake up early.

This is a tofu specialty shop located a short walk from Hirao Station. I had been curious about it when I walked around this area before. This time, I went to have breakfast. You order on the 1st floor and eat on the 2nd floor, but you can also take out tofu dishes on the 1st floor. I did take out, but I will review that next time. This time, I will review the eat-in experience. To put it mildly, it was amazing. If you have an early morning meal here, you will feel relaxed until the afternoon. The Tofu Set Meal and Miso Soup Set Meal are the two morning menu options you can order. You can choose between a large size miso soup or adding one tofu dish. I wanted to try a tofu dish, so I chose the Tofu Set Meal. Everything was delicious. The tofu had a rich soybean flavor, the thick fried tofu had a great aroma, and the miso soup was delicious with a rich broth. This was seriously a great breakfast. It was much better than the breakfast at a mediocre ryokan. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Fukuoka City Chuo Ward Hirao's tofu shop, "Tofuji". It's amazing that they have been in business since Taisho 10. I was curious about their breakfast, so I finally visited. The shop is located very close to Nishitetsu Hirao Station. You order and pay on the first floor, then go up to the second floor. On the second floor, there are about 10 counter seats. On this day, I ordered the "Tofuji set meal" (660 yen including tax). Here is what the set meal includes: - Miso soup with tofu (small) - Freshly made tofu, thick fried tofu, and okara croquette (choose 2) - Daily side dish - Rice (free refill) The freshly made tofu was sold out, so I got thick fried tofu and okara croquette instead. The thick fried tofu and okara croquette were freshly fried and hot, which was great. The okara croquette was lightly seasoned and had a gentle flavor. The thick fried tofu, made with silk tofu, had a creamy inside. Adding a little yuzu pepper and soy sauce made it delicious! The miso soup was made with pork bone soup cooked with soy milk and homemade miso, with plenty of tofu, carrots, and daikon radish. It had a gentle flavor that was soothing. I finished everything, it was so tasty. Having a healthy breakfast like this every day would make your body happy. I will definitely visit "Tofuji" again! P.S. I arrived about 30 minutes after the shop opened at 8:00, but the freshly made tofu was already sold out. If you want to try the freshly made tofu, you need to go right after they open.

Popular tofu shop near Nishitetsu Hirao Station. On the first floor, they sell tofu, and on the second floor, you can enjoy dishes made with tofu. They serve breakfast, which is convenient. Since I didn't have time for lunch, I had a late breakfast here. - Meals are served on the second floor. Please be careful as the stairs are narrow and steep. The large windows provide a sense of openness. - Pickles and tea are provided. I forgot to take a picture of the breakfast menu, but it seemed to have been slightly raised in price. - Bean Fuji set meal (around 640 yen) ... It was around 11:10 am, close to the end of breakfast time, so only thick fried tofu was left. They offered to give me two pieces, but I chose the tofu. It was not freshly made tofu. * From the top: - Miso soup with tofu and vegetables, delicious and satisfying. - The thick fried tofu was soft and delicious as it used silk tofu. - The tofu was smaller than expected, with a good tofu flavor but slightly lacking compared to other items. Two pieces of the thick fried tofu might have been better. - The soy milk was mild and easy to drink. - The side dish of the day was boiled komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach). - The rice was shiny and delicious, with one refill allowed. As always, I enjoyed the meal. I need to come earlier next time.

Today, I had dinner with my wife at Mamedo Kato Honten in Hirao. My wife wanted to eat something healthy, so we decided to go to this restaurant where we have been for lunch several times before. We informed the staff that we wanted to dine in on the first floor and went upstairs. It was not crowded as it usually is during lunchtime, probably because it's not known for dinner. We had a wide selection of seats and chose the one by the window with the best view. I ordered the Mamedo set meal (with thick fried tofu and one side dish) and added a tonkatsu since it was dinner time. For the side dish, I chose yuba kenchaku. The food arrived in about 10 minutes. I started with the yuba kenchaku, which was soaked in a flavorful broth with a nice soybean taste. The miso soup was also satisfying with a rich soybean flavor. The tonkatsu had a good balance of meat and breading, and I enjoyed it with Worcestershire sauce and tonkatsu sauce while it was still hot. Finally, the thick fried tofu arrived, and it was even tastier since it came later. Despite eating a decent amount, the meal left a light and guilt-free aftertaste. It was a pleasant experience having the tofu set meal for dinner. Before leaving, we checked out the retail section on the first floor and found sweet potatoes priced at 1 yen per gram. My wife was excited and ended up buying some as souvenirs. I didn't try them myself, but she said they were deliciously sticky. Thank you for the meal.

There are also menu items that children will enjoy, making it a great place for families. Thank you for the delicious meal.

On a holiday lunchtime, I visited "Mamefu Katohonten" located about a 5-minute walk from Nishitetsu Hirao Station. It is a long-established tofu shop that has been operating since 1921 (Taisho 10), and they offer set meals, which had piqued my interest for a while. The first floor of the shop is a retail space where they sell tofu, side dishes, and bento boxes. When I asked the staff if they serve lunch on the second floor, they cheerfully replied, "Yes, we do! Please go up the stairs over there." I climbed the slightly steep stairs to the second floor. The eat-in space on the second floor has a warm atmosphere with wooden accents. The counter seats are arranged along the walls in a circle. There is a manga shelf in the back. There were mostly solo diners, and time seemed to flow leisurely. The menu includes a basic set meal with miso soup, rice, and side dishes, where you can add additional side dishes of your choice. In addition to tofu-based side dishes like tofu hamburg steak, okara, and thick fried tofu, they also offer a wide variety of hearty options such as tonkatsu, chicken nanban, and bacon and eggs. Since I wasn't very hungry, I opted for the Mamefu set meal for 550 yen. They mentioned that the daily side dishes are a surprise, which was exciting! While hydrating with self-service water, I eagerly awaited the arrival of my meal. It arrived in less than 10 minutes. The meal consisted of: - Miso soup: A light and creamy tofu-based soup with daikon, carrots, green onions, and burdock. The tofu was smooth and melted in the mouth. - Rice: Softly cooked rice, which may be a hit or miss for some. - Daily side dishes: Okara, komatsuna spinach, and yuba. The okara had a strong tofu flavor, the komatsuna spinach was crunchy and refreshing, and the yuba was creamy. The yuba paired well with yuzu pepper. Overall, it was a great value meal for 550 yen. The meal was gentle yet satisfying, suitable for those seeking a light meal or those with a hearty appetite. I was reminded of the deliciousness of tofu once again. Thank you for the meal.

A tofu shop located a 3-4 minute walk from Nishitetsu Hirao Station. The breakfast is also popular, and since it was delicious when I visited before, I decided to go back. I wanted to try the freshly made tofu, so I went before 10 am, but unfortunately, it was sold out. On the first floor, they sell tofu and other items, and you have to pay before eating. Going up the steep stairs to the second floor, it was crowded, so I sat on the opposite side of the nice view seats. They provide pickles and tea, if you like. I ordered the "Azuki Bean" set meal (550 yen including tax) since the freshly made tofu was sold out. The main dishes were deep-fried tofu and okara croquette, just like last time. The azuki bean soup with tofu and vegetables was delicious and gentle on the stomach. It's good for you when paired with soy milk. The okara croquette was well-seasoned and went well with rice. The deep-fried tofu made with silk tofu had a crispy outside and a creamy inside. I enjoyed it with the special soy sauce and yuzu pepper. The rice was shiny and delicious, with one free refill. The soy milk was easy to drink. The side dish of "Arame seaweed simmered dish" that day had good flavor, but I wished there was a bit more. You can enjoy this meal with a cup of coffee at a reasonable price, which explains its popularity. It was a gentle breakfast for the stomach, and I enjoyed it. ♪

I want to have breakfast. If possible, I would like something that resembles Japanese cuisine. On such days, the best option is Mamedo Katohonten. For only 550 yen, you can enjoy a heartwarming breakfast that will warm both your body and soul! The gentle taste of the miso soup is surprisingly rich and you won't get tired of it until the last bite. The thick fried tofu has a crispy texture on the outside and a fluffy inside. It's delicious... There are various flavors, and I chose the yuzu flavor, but I want to try all varieties. This is the perfect place for when you want to have breakfast, prefer Japanese cuisine, and want something light to eat. Undoubtedly, the best breakfast of the year award goes to Mamedo Katohonten.

Let's have a light lunch at this place I've been curious about. It's a long-established tofu shop founded in the 10th year of the Taisho era. They sell tofu and fried tofu on the first floor, and you can dine on the second floor. After paying on the first floor, you climb the steep stairs to the second floor. The food is prepared on the first floor and brought up to the second floor, which seems like a lot of work. It was past 11 o'clock, so I was planning to have lunch, but until 11:30 they serve breakfast menu. The second floor has counter seats on three sides, with a bright atmosphere. In the center table, there are pickled vegetables to help yourself to (and tea is also provided). There are seasonings on the table. The breakfast menu is available from 7:00 am to 11:30 am. The Tofu Set Meal (550 yen including tax) allows you to choose 2 side dishes, but the "freshly made tofu" was sold out, so I had to choose based on process of elimination. The miso soup (small) is made with soy milk base and includes tofu, burdock, carrot, root vegetables, and green onions, with a gentle flavor. Just by having this, it feels like you're getting healthier. From the top: The two side dishes were "Thick Fried Tofu" and "Okara Croquette". Both are served warm. The thick fried tofu is silky and has a nice texture. I enjoyed it with the yuzu pepper on the table. The okara croquette is not filled with ingredients and has a mild taste. The small side dish was "Macaroni Salad". The soy milk is easy to drink. Rice is free for one refill. The pickles were delicious, especially the thick fried tofu. I bought a pack of 4, but forgot to take a picture. It's healthy and lightly seasoned, and it feels like my body is in better condition.

Today, both elementary school and kindergarten did not serve lunch, so I decided to go to a morning cafe that I heard was healthy. I went to a tofu shop for breakfast. I ordered the Mamefu set meal for 550 yen, which included miso soup with tofu, rice, soy milk, daily side dish, thick fried tofu, and tofu croquette. I placed my order and paid on the first floor, then went up the stairs to the second floor. The tea and pickles were self-service. The meal arrived in about 5 minutes. I wanted to choose freshly made tofu, but it was sold out, so I opted for the thick fried tofu and tofu croquette. The miso soup had chunks of tofu in it and had a gentle and delicious taste. The thick fried tofu and tofu croquette were crispy on the outside and tasty on the inside. If I had to mention one thing, I wish the rice was a bit firmer. However, being a tofu shop, the food was really delicious. The background music was calming, and the atmosphere was relaxing, perfect for enjoying a meal alone. It was a healthy meal to start the day. I would definitely like to go back again.

Fukuoka City, Chuo Ward, Hirao's "Mametou". I was drawn in by the storefront sign that said "500 yen set meal" and decided to enter. The small and cozy interior is filled with a retro atmosphere that makes me happy. It may have always been like this, but deliberately creating a sense of nostalgia is clever. However, I was quite disappointed when I found out that the set meal on the sign was actually 550 yen including tax. The breakfast menu on the sign (7:00-11:30) offers two options: Miso soup set and Mametou set. The former includes ① Miso soup (large) ② Rice ③ Freshly made tofu or thick fried tofu ④ Soy milk, while the latter includes ① Miso soup (small) ② Rice ③ Daily side dish ④ Choice of freshly made tofu, thick fried tofu, or okara croquette ⑤ Soy milk. I chose the latter option and requested freshly made tofu and thick fried tofu for ④. The staff asked me how I wanted the thick fried tofu seasoned, and I opted for their recommendation. Upstairs, while waiting for the food, I enjoyed the three types of pickles and two types of tea that were self-service. The food was served in less than 10 minutes. The miso soup was more like a miso-based soup rather than a clear broth, with tofu melting in it like Yufuin's hot spring tofu. It had a ginger flavor and tasted like pork soup, which was not bad but not particularly delicious either. The rice was tasty but disappointingly sticky in texture. The thick fried tofu had a crispy surface and a soft interior, which was delicious. Oh, it has a subtle shiso leaf flavor. I learned from a notice in the restaurant that the thick fried tofu comes in various seasonings like plain, green onion and chili, yuzu, shiso, sesame, etc. The freshly made tofu also had a soft texture. I naturally poured soy sauce over them, which had added umami and sweetness. Although Fukuoka is known for its sweet soy sauce, I wished they also offered regular soy sauce or salt. The soy sauce and sauce bottles on the table were almost empty, which was sad to see. I didn't use the sauce this time, but it's still disappointing to see the condiments running low at other tables. It's nice that rice refills are free, but I was quite dissatisfied with the consistently soft texture of the tofu. I wanted to taste a firm cotton tofu that allows you to enjoy the rich flavor of the beans. Is that too much to ask for? I initially thought this was a "cleverly thought out" restaurant, but it turned out not to be the case.

Last time, I visited "Mamefu Katoh Honten" on a weekday, riding my bicycle and browsing the shops. This time, I met up with my wife in Hirao for some errands and we decided to have lunch. As a tofu lover, I suggested visiting this restaurant. We weren't sure if they were open on weekends, so we asked at the 1st floor store and they said it was okay to go up to the 2nd floor. The window seat with the best view was taken, so we sat facing the wall again. The restaurant was quite crowded this time, unlike on weekdays. There were only two men, including myself, and mostly women. I ordered the "Miso Soup Set" for 550 yen, which came with tofu hamburger and chicken nanban. My wife ordered the "Mamefu Set" for 550 yen, which came with tofu hamburger and fried horse mackerel. The miso soup set didn't come with the delicious thick fried tofu that I enjoyed last time, so I had to choose this set. The fried tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, very delicious! The miso soup was larger than last time, and the tofu hamburger had a rich soy sauce flavor that went well with the rice. The chicken nanban was standard, made with chicken breast, but still tasty. Each dish had its own unique flavor, so it didn't get boring. Rice refills were free, but I decided not to have seconds this time since I was already full. Before leaving, I bought a set of thick fried tofu (4 pieces) to enjoy at home. Overall, it was a delicious meal.

I came here for lunch and had the miso soup. The miso soup here is incredibly delicious. It has a rich flavor with soy milk, miso, and pork bone. I also ordered a healthy set meal because I was quite hungry. What I ordered: Service Set ¥1100 - Tofu hamburger, grilled mackerel with thick fried tofu, rice, miso soup (small) - Shumai ¥110. The tofu hamburger is soft and tasty, especially with the nostalgic ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. The grilled mackerel is thick and crispy. The fried tofu is also delicious, with a crispy exterior and fluffy interior. There are many different side dishes to choose from, but I never get tired of eating here. Thank you for the meal.
