It's easy to use, so when I feel like having Chinese food, this place always comes to mind first. I revisited "Kyuke Mapo Tofu-ten", a Chinese restaurant. Located at 1-1-1 Toyooka, Asahikawa City. Operating hours are from 11:00 to 15:00 and 17:00 to 22:00, closed on Tuesdays. They have parking available and it's a non-smoking restaurant. Even though it was past 8:00 in the evening, there were already 2 groups of customers and another group arrived later. It seems like this place is becoming popular.
First, I spent some time in front of the ticket machine trying to decide what to order. I handed the food ticket to the staff and took a seat. There are menus on the tables as well. There are some affordable options and it's also okay to sit at the counter and enjoy your meal alone. The interior is simple. If the cost is not reflected in the price of the items, then this feeling of emptiness is understandable.
The dishes arrived. There are various set menus available here, but I ordered everything a la carte. I had 3 pieces of fried chicken for 300 yen, braised pork for 400 yen, and a large bowl of rice for 200 yen. The total came to 800 yen, which is not bad. I don't mind the slightly strong smell of the fried chicken. Somehow, I'm getting hooked on the fried chicken here. Oh, be careful as the meat is hot and juicy, so watch out for burns.
The braised pork was surprising. Is this really braised pork? It's more like thinly sliced braised pork. Well, it's 400 yen, so it's understandable. It was pork meat soaked in a Chinese-style sauce, completely different from the traditional braised pork. Phew, I finished my meal. Next up, Mapo Tofu Rice Bowl for 850 yen. Oh, I couldn't resist ordering more. In the end, it wasn't cheap at all (laughs). I was in a good mood that day, haha. As expected, the Mapo Tofu here is delicious. I ate a lot. It's quite spicy. The tofu could be cut a bit smaller, but overall, I really like it. And I'm full♪
