I received a souvenir from Fukuoka, "Niwa Senpei Honpo Tokumundo" 20-ka senbei. "Tokumundo" was established in 1906 and is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop with over 100 years of history. A popular product of "Tokumundo" is the 20-ka senbei. It is a humorous senbei shaped like half of a Hakata Inwaka, a traditional folk entertainment in Hakata loved by the common people since ancient times. It is said to be made with plenty of high-quality flour and eggs, baked until crispy. The crispy texture and the flavor of eggs are well-received. The taste is very simple. In today's world where Western-style confectionery dominates the souvenir market, encountering Japanese-style confectionery like this is comforting. It is a taste that almost all Japanese people would enjoy. I am impressed by the taste of those who choose such souvenirs. Thank you for the treat.

The box was interesting, so I bought it. I feel like I've seen it somewhere before but can't remember where ^^; Also, how do you read it? Niwaka Senbei... Ni Maruka? Nijuuka? I didn't know, haha. When I looked it up, it's Niwaka! I see! Niwaka Senbei! I get it now. I was strangely impressed ^_^ And then! Eh!!!! Niwaka Senpei? Eh???? Senpei??? Senpei? Is that right??? When I looked at the website, it became Senpei! Amazing!!! I was surprised twice! ^_^ Sorry for the long introduction, but when I tried it... It was a slightly sweet and delicious senbei. This taste is addictive. I'll buy it again if I see it. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal! ^_^

In Hakata, there is a famous souvenir called "Niwaka Senbei". It is known for its unique packaging featuring masks. This snack is like a rich egg-flavored sablé cookie. After not having it for a long time, I felt like it tasted even better. The crunchiness seemed to have increased compared to when I used to eat it. While they collaborate with various characters, this time it was a collaboration with Dragon Quest Walk, featuring Slime Niwaka Senbei. When I opened it, I was worried that the snack would be completely blue to match Slime's image, but inside was a delicious senbei in the shape of Slime. It's a great souvenir from Hakata, so please try it out. Thank you for the meal!

This is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located in Hakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The origin of Hakata Niwaka dates back to about 300 years ago during the Kan'ei era. It is said to have started during the time of the feudal lord Kuroda Tadayuki. People in Hakata would gather on the night of Obon, wearing lanterns over their heads with only the eyes exposed, walking around the streets and amusing others with jokes and riddles. This eventually became known as "Niwaka." One of the confections inspired by this tradition is the Niwaka Senbei. Made with high-quality wheat flour and eggs, these crispy senbei have a unique texture and flavor.

I was not familiar with Fukuoka souvenirs, so I was surprised when I first saw the box of "Niwa Senbei". However, it is not a strange item, but a long-established store born in Meiji 39. But this expression... isn't it like the face when fighting against drowsiness in the afternoon (laughs) The fragrant sweetness of wheat, eggs, and sugar spreads in the mouth. Thank you for the meal.

It's a direct-operated store of freshly made rice crackers, so it's cheaper than buying at the station and not crowded, which is nice.

In Fukuoka, there is a well-known senbei restaurant where you can wear a unique mask while enjoying your meal in a traditional tatami room. It's been a long time since I last experienced such hospitality. Today, I received a special gift of freshly made senbei, perfect for souvenirs. The senbei is crispy and light, making it a great match for both Japanese tea and Western tea like black tea. The size is just right too. Fukuoka's top souvenirs are mentaiko (spicy cod roe), large packs of ramen, but this senbei definitely deserves the number one spot. Thank you for the delicious meal!

★I received a souvenir from a customer's hometown! This time it's a Doraemon version (^o^) Sweet and delicious♪★The customer went back to their hometown in Kyushu and brought back a souvenir! I saw it for the first time!! It's the Hakata Tokunodo's "Nijukasenbei," which is called senpei instead of senbei. The package has a sad-looking face with droopy eyebrows, it's funny (^∇^) The senbei even has eyes drawn on it. It's sweet, light, crispy, and delicious! The box had three pieces of senbei inside. A traditional Hakata senbei from the past (^ー^)

I currently live in Okayama, but my parents are from Kyushu. Therefore, I am familiar with Niwaka Senbei. It's not incredibly delicious, but it's a comforting taste. I found out that the headquarters of Niwaka Senbei is near a place where I had to travel for work, so I hurried to buy some. A short walk from JR Yoshizuka Station, you can see a low-rise building inside a fenced area. The gate was slightly open, so I went inside and found a corner of the building turned into a store. The store was small, with just a 2-meter storefront and a showcase. There was a receptionist inside, who was also doing other work while signing delivery slips brought by the drivers. I was hoping to find something unique that they only sell at the headquarters, but they said they didn't have anything like that. I did buy something a bit different, which was a collaboration between Kyushu Jalan and Nyaran Senbei. I bought the black version called Black Senbei. The taste was similar to the regular Niwaka Senbei, in my opinion.

I received the 20-ka senbei from Niwaka Senpei Honpo Tokunodo, which has its headquarters in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City (^_^)/ The 20-ka senbei is pronounced as Niwaka Senpei, I see♪ The senbei is baked to be firm, with eyes that resemble the fierce Gachapin (lol). It has a simple taste of wheat flour and eggs, with a crispy texture. (Indeed, it was a snack with a humorous and impactful design when opening the bag♪) They also have other snacks like mochi, manju, and octopus senbei, so I would like to try them out if I have the chance.

In May 2015, a friend from Fukuoka visited Osaka and brought me a souvenir called "Niwaka Senpei" as a gift (maybe for fun?). I didn't know about it, but when I looked it up, I found out that it's a very famous souvenir from Fukuoka. The package is quite impactful and the size is actually smaller than the usual ones. The product description for "Niwaka Senbei" (small size, 3 pieces x 4 boxes) is as follows: Price: 540 yen (tax included) "Hakata Niwaka" has long been a popular local entertainment in Hakata. "Niwaka Senbei" is a humorous senbei shaped like half of "Hakata Niwaka". Made with high-quality flour and plenty of eggs, it is baked to a crispy finish. The crispy texture and the flavor of eggs are well-received. The senbei comes in three sizes: special large, medium, and small. The rounded senbei is finished with a rich flavor of eggs. I tried it right away and it had a rich taste with plenty of eggs, and the gentle sweetness was quite addictive. Despite looking very hard, it was surprisingly easy to enjoy and it was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

When I went to Fukuoka for work, my child requested a snack. I was surprised that a child from the Heisei era would want it, but it seems like they remembered eating it before. It comes in a bag, so the crispy texture and fragrant smell are maintained no matter when you eat it. The unchanged taste is nice. Niwaka Senbei, when I think about it, I remember watching the TV commercial a lot since I was a child. Even though the footage seemed old at the time, it continued to air from the Showa era to the Heisei era. The commercial left a stronger impression than the snack itself (^O^).

<September 19th: Fukuoka Souvenir Series No.2> I wandered around Hakata Station and bought some "souvenirs" to take home. I found and got two types of "sweets". The first one is "Tsurunoko" from Ishimura Banshodo, which I reviewed last time. The other one is "Niwaka Senbei" from Shinundo. This snack has been sold since 1906 and has been loved for a long time. It is also one of the first souvenirs sold at Hakata Station. "Going and coming back, happy in Hakata, Niwaka Senbei in hand." The "Niwaka Senbei" is a humorous senbei shaped like half of the face of a traditional Hakata performing art called "Hakata Niwaka". It brings back memories of children being delighted by the senbei with one side made of paper inside the box. There are two sizes available: "Large: 4 pieces" (648 yen) and "Small: 12 pieces" (648 yen). The senbei, made with high-quality flour and eggs, has three faces on one side. I like the crispy texture and the subtle flavor of eggs. I learned the hard way that storing the senbei with fresh sweets in the refrigerator makes it absorb moisture and become soggy. But I also discovered that lightly baking the senbei in the oven brings back its crispy texture.

I always end up buying the "Nijukasenbei" from Shinonome-Do because the commercials are so catchy! The unique faces on the packaging are quite memorable, and I've found myself buying it on impulse a few times. It's a long-standing snack that has been sold since 1906. Made with high-quality wheat and plenty of eggs, these crispy senbei have a delicious crunch and a lovely egg aroma. They even had a limited-time collaboration with a movie, and I got a funny mask as a bonus. It's a fun snack with a rich history!

This is the headquarters of a confectionery shop in Fukuoka that has been loved by Fukuoka residents for a long time. They received a cute original senbei as a thank you gift at a beauty school graduation ceremony in March 2012. The taste is similar to the regular senbei, sweet and crispy. The senbei used to be made by a different shop, but now they are made by Tokiwa-do. The shop also sells traditional senbei and other products that reflect its history. The origin of Hakata Niwaka Senbei dates back to about 300 years ago during the Kan'ei era. The senbei has been a popular treat in Fukuoka since its establishment in 1906. The shop also has a stone millstone used for grinding senbei flour in the past. The senbei sometimes come with a wink, which is considered lucky. In December, they received monaka as a souvenir, and even the monaka had a winking design. In January 2011, they bought a small box of senbei, which was delicious but did not have the winking design. The shop is located at 6-10-16 Yoshizuka, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City.

Looking for souvenirs at Fukuoka Airport. I have relatives in Kyushu, and when I was a child, I received this snack from Hakata as a souvenir. The slightly eerie and unique face left a strong impression on me, so much so that whenever I hear about Hakata, this snack's face immediately comes to mind. As I grew a little older, the popular souvenir became hiyoko manju, with its cute shape making me wonder how to eat it. When I was an office worker, I often received Hakata Onna (woman) as a snack. Now, it seems that Hakata Tsukimon is the most popular. It has won the Monde Selection gold award for 10 consecutive years. Indeed, it has a unique and unforgettable taste. I ended up buying a variety of snacks, including the above mentioned ones, as souvenirs. Aside from snacks, I also bought the classic mentaiko, ramen, and spicy takana. If I were asked to review one Hakata souvenir, I would choose the kwara senbei that is rooted in my memories. Despite being tucked away in a small corner of the store, its uniqueness and simple taste remain. The outer paper packaging is decorated with various Hakata dialects, making it fun to read. Even though the design of kwara senbei has been around for a long time, it still feels very modern and stylish. I think it might even appeal to younger people. It would be interesting if there were character goods featuring the face of kwara senbei! ^o^

I tried it for the first time after receiving it from a friend! It seems like it has been around in Fukuoka for a long time. The shape is really cute, almost too cute to eat. The size is just right, making it a perfect snack when you're a little hungry. It's not too sweet, which is why you won't get tired of it. Next time I go back to Kansai, I'll buy some as souvenirs. I think children would be delighted to receive it.
