That "Ramen Shodai Ichikokudo" is still in Ebetsu. Upon hearing that information, on my way back from work in Ebetsu, I drive my car to the restaurant. "Ichikokudo" was a ramen shop that gained popularity in the early 2000s. At that time, when it came to eating ramen, it felt like we were rotating between "Tetsuya," "Hinotori," "Yamaokaya," and "Ichikokudo." Upon further research, I found out that "Ichikokudo" was founded in 2000, expanded to 13 stores in and out of Hokkaido, but closed in 2012. I remember there was also a narrow store next to the Yodobashi Camera store. The Ebetsu store is now the only remaining store in Hokkaido. I wonder if it continued under the same name after the headquarters disappeared? The store is located in Ebetsu City, Saiwai-cho. When you head towards Iwamizawa on Route 12, you'll see the store on your left. The store doesn't stand out, so you might miss it if you're not aware. However, the logo and facade of the store are unmistakably "Ichikokudo." It feels like I've slipped back into the Heisei era. Now, I park my car in the parking space in front of the store and enter. I sit at the counter and look at the menu. Apart from the prices, everything seems unchanged from before. The lunch set is quite a deal. I order the "Shoyu Ramen" with "Gyoza," "Mugi Meshi," and a side dish, the "A Set" for 880 yen. The ramen is served in about 5 minutes. A large bowl with tonkotsu-based shoyu ramen with floating lard appears. The appearance doesn't seem to have changed from before. Now, let's dig in. First, the soup. Oh, this is it. This slightly unique, rich tonkotsu soup. It's definitely the taste of "Ichikokudo." Memories come flooding back (bitter smile). The noodles are medium-thick yellow curly egg noodles. They are cooked al dente and have a chewy texture. The noodles are supplied by Sagamiya Seimen. The toppings include nori, green onions, menma, a half-seasoned egg, and two slices of pork belly chashu. The thick chashu is perfectly fatty and tender. The seasoned egg is also well-cooked and has a delicious taste. The side dish gyoza is also tasty. The noodles disappear quickly. I pour the remaining soup over the rice and enjoy it as ochazuke. Delicious. Once again, I finish every last drop of soup and enjoy it. Another satisfying meal. It's great that "Ichikokudo" is still around. I'd love to come back and eat here again when I'm in Ebetsu. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal♬ *75th bowl in 2021 (visited on June 25, 2021)
