This time, for our first stop of day drinking, we went to Yamatoya 1st store near Tsutenkaku. There are many Yamatoya stores in this area, but this was my first visit. We started with a light lemon shochu highball for a toast - we ordered skewers of beef, shishito peppers, quail eggs, and garlic, each priced at 110 yen per skewer for three people. They were served on a netted plate. We poured plenty of sweet sauce on them and enjoyed them. The crispy batter was delicious. This kind of skewered food tastes great with lots of sauce. The remaining oil in the mouth was reset with the raw cabbage that comes with the skewers. This makes me feel like I can eat skewers endlessly. For another dish, we had beef tendon ponzu for 390 yen. The beef tendon topped with chopped green onions and grated radish was tender and tasty. The alcohol went down smoothly! When we thought about ordering more, customers started coming in one after another, so we paid the bill. They have special deals like a Yamatoya set with dote-yaki and 3 skewers for 660 yen, a one-coin set with 5 skewers for 550 yen, a free small draft beer after two medium drafts, and a free cup of sake after two double hot sakes. I usually go to the main store, but it was crowded so I came to the branch store for the first time. The menu is posted in various places and stands out, but it feels a bit hard to read. There are some menu items that are not available at the main store, which is good, but the service and food felt a bit sloppy. Personally, it didn't quite suit my taste. The skewers were also very small. But this might be because they don't raise the prices due to the high cost of living, so the skewers are small. I ordered a one-coin set, a senbero set, and a set meal (grilled mackerel) with a cola, which came to just under ¥2,500. The kushikatsu included meat, shishito peppers, lotus root, and eggplant. The doteyaki had a slight gamey taste, but it was still good. My daughter wanted the grilled mackerel, which was huge! Kansai + San'in Trip Day 1, 4th meal: New World. During the daytime on a weekday, there were a lot of touts outside, but I ignored them and decided to try this place. Inside, the atmosphere was filled with thick Kansai dialect, very Osaka-like. The menu consisted of kushikatsu and otsumami, giving off a casual izakaya vibe. I ordered a set of 5 kushikatsu skewers and alcohol for only 550 yen, which was very affordable. The skewers included egg, eggplant, shishito pepper, lotus root, and pork, all with a moist and light batter. I also added salmon and squid legs, which were great choices. The salmon was thick and tender, creating a nice contrast with the batter, while the squid legs were chewy and delicious. The portion sizes were decent and the prices were very reasonable. In total, our bill for 4 people was just under 7,000 yen. What a deal! This place truly captures the essence of Osaka. We're excited to keep exploring more places.

I went to a second place in the afternoon from Fushimi and was drawn in by the sign for the Senbero Set. The Senbero Set costs 1100 yen and includes 2 drinks of your choice, 3 skewers, doteyaki, and cabbage. We also had 2 glasses of draft beer. There are so many menu options like Kirin Lager, large bottle, grilled octopus with leeks, octopus with ponzu sauce, fresh horse mackerel sashimi, shrimp cutlet, omelette, and skewered cutlets (beef, scallop, squid) that it's hard to choose! I found a place where I could eat both doteyaki and kushikatsu on my gourmet trip in Osaka! The place looked like it would be open until late at night, but it actually closed at 9 pm, so I just made it in time haha. After enjoying some delicious kushikatsu at Gifu-ya Honke, we wandered around near Tsutenkaku. It was crowded with many customers. Feeling a bit hungry, we stopped by Yamatoya 1st branch. We started with some tasty simmered octopus, which was as delicious as always. The beer was also going down smoothly. We tried shrimp katsu, kushikatsu, and tuna sashimi. And as a bonus, the beer size used to be small, but now it's a medium glass! Great service here.

Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line Ebisucho Station After finishing work, my company members and I headed to Shinsekai. The restaurant we had in mind was unexpectedly closed, so we quickly decided on Yamatoya, a place known for its skewers, grilled dishes, and a variety of items. It was the ultimate super sub option, perfect for a nice recovery. We started with a toast with beer and ordered dishes like sea cucumber, potato salad, grilled hormone, and omelette. I went to the first store of "Yamato-ya" in the new world. Two draft beers for 450 yen each (third one free), two pieces of beef for 100 yen each, salmon for 100 yen, quail eggs for 100 yen, shishamo for 50 yen, shishito peppers for 100 yen, mochi for 50 yen, and onions for 100 yen. This place offers great value for the price. They also have a promotion where you get a free third beer after drinking two. While the taste is decent, it's a welcome presence in a tourist area where many places are overpriced.

After that, I decided to go buy a refrigerator since I heard that it's hard to find cheap electronic appliances in Nihonbashi nowadays. I headed to Yodobashi Camera, a well-known electronics store in Osaka. Inside the store, I was approached by a staff member and a negotiation battle ensued. Despite my experience of negotiating a 1.5 million yen discount when buying my current house, the staff member was a pro negotiator. Eventually, we settled on a Mitsubishi refrigerator priced at around 300,000 yen for about 198,000 yen. After a successful shopping trip, I continued my drinking adventure. While wandering around the area near Tsutenkaku, I noticed a sign advertising a 'Yamatoya Set' which included a drink, doteyaki, and 3 kushikatsu for 600 yen. I entered the restaurant and ordered the set. It was around 3:35 PM, so the izakaya was not crowded. I was served a fresh beer, and the doteyaki and kushikatsu arrived promptly. The doteyaki was delicious, and the kushikatsu had a nice crispy coating. Y-chan ordered 'simmered octopus,' which was a unique choice. After enjoying the food, I ordered a tomato chu-hi, a healthy drink option. The food quality was good, and I quickly finished my meal. This restaurant offers great value for money, with a variety of tasty dishes and drinks that are perfect for drinkers."

On the second day of the year-end party in Osaka, we went to the usual spot in Shinsekai for kushikatsu in the morning. The restaurant opens at 10 am, so when we arrived a little before opening, there were already a few groups of customers. By 11 am, it was almost full. We decided to go to Yamatoya 1st Store. There are several branches around Shinsekai, but this was my first visit. Let's see. Hello~♪ Since it was daytime, there were empty seats and we casually sat down. I ordered a lemon chu-hi (300 yen). For food, we got grilled squid, squid sushi, and various skewers. My husband noticed that even at the same Yamatoya, the prices for skewers can vary, like 100 yen each or different prices. We tried to stick to the 100 yen ones. We had beef x3, lotus root x1, and egg x1. It was easy to drink and we could relax since we were sitting down (obviously). It's a good place. Also, Osaka has been full of foreign tourists lately. There were many tourists with big suitcases peeking in here too. The economic impact is amazing!

Met up with a friend in Osaka and headed to a cost-effective kushikatsu restaurant for breakfast. The place also offers sashimi and udon, making it a versatile spot. We indulged in the morning with a 500 yen "One Coin Set" (excluding tax) and a 300 yen "Doteyaki". The One Coin Set includes a glass of beer and 5 pieces of kushikatsu, offering great value for money. After placing our order, a senior lady brought us cabbage and beer. The cabbage served as a spoon for dipping in the sauce. The Doteyaki, made with simmered beef tendons and konjac in white miso, was delicious. The kushikatsu arrived on a stainless steel bat with beef, eggplant, quail, green pepper, and lotus root skewers. Each skewer was generously sized, and the breading was slightly coarse with occasional clumps, adding to its charm. The standout skewers were the lotus root, crispy on the outside and tender inside, and the beef, which had a strong meaty flavor. The restaurant was already bustling with slightly tipsy customers around 9 am, creating a vibrant Osaka morning atmosphere.

After leaving Kyoto and heading to Osaka, I visited the famous Tsutenkaku Tower that I had always wanted to see. However, Osaka turned out to be quite overwhelming. Unlike Nagoya's TV Tower, the business spirit here is fierce. There were countless souvenir shops around Tsutenkaku Tower, all trying to sell their products in various ways. Osaka's business spirit was truly on display, and Nagoya should take note. After coming down from Tsutenkaku Tower, I realized it was time for a slightly delayed lunch. I stumbled upon Yamatoya nearby and decided to give it a try without much thought. The food was delicious, especially the simmered octopus. The skewers and tonpei-yaki were also good. However, the doteyasuji stew was not as satisfying as the red miso stew from Nagoya. I still think the red miso stew is better.
