September 17, 2023 After having breakfast, it's time for a smoke break! There is a smoking area under Tsutenkaku, but I wanted to have a smoke in a cafe (´▽`). There are surprisingly many cafes around Tsutenkaku! However, since it was Sunday, about half of them were closed. The cafe I chose from the options was "Cafe Brother". It is a long-established cafe on the street leading from Ebisucho Station to Tsutenkaku, a street that symbolizes the Showa era. The entrance, the showcase with samples, everything about this cafe is irresistible for cafe lovers. When you enter the store, the interior, tables, chairs, everything gives a feeling of time slipping back. And the staff is cute ❤️ It was a bit mismatched, whether they were part-time staff or the owner's grandson (lol). - Iced Coffee 400 yen The menu book has been updated to a new and clean version, with English translations to accommodate foreign tourists. It was a Sunday morning, and one group seemed to be tourists. The rest seemed to be regulars from the neighborhood, chatting with each other even if they were seated at different tables. At one point, I glanced at the receipt and saw "ookini ♡" written in the corner. This phrase, which tickles an old man's heart, is just charming ( ´,,•ω•,,`)♡ Thank you for the meal!!

I used it to adjust the time on a holiday morning. It was a nice cafe with a good atmosphere. The staff were polite and the customers seemed to be mostly local regulars. There was a little mishap, but I had a good time. The sandwich was delicious.

It was a cafe with a really nice atmosphere! Eating the nostalgic pudding and parfait made me feel like I had traveled back in time, and it was really enjoyable ☺️ I went there for a pilgrimage to a certain work's holy site, and the lively atmosphere like a local gathering place was very pleasant.

Café Brother
Took a break with a friend. Coffee and cake! I don't remember having a date like this before (lol). It's a nostalgic Showa-era style shop, and the master is friendly. Maybe we'll take another break here during our tour of Tsutenkaku Tower.

I visited this cafe during my trip. It was located near Tsutenkaku and I happened to discover it when I wanted to go to a cafe. I ordered an iced coffee and a pudding parfait. The pudding was firm and delicious! The Showa retro atmosphere of the cafe was nice!

"Cafe Brother" ✔️ Emisucho / Cafe ✉️ 1-14-16 Emisu Higashi, Naniwa-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture ⚫︎ Morning set 380 yen - Toast, fruit, boiled egg, coffee. There were a group of familiar middle-aged men gathered. The cafe is run by two men! It's very close to the station, so both elderly and young people were using the morning set. The conversations overheard were truly unique to Osaka! I could listen to them all day (*´∀`*) There are many cafes in this area, and I thought it would be nice to explore different morning sets! Thank you for the meal!

While taking a stroll in the Shinsekai area, I happened to come across a quaint little shop for a break. I wanted to find a place that was not aimed at tourists, but had a local feel to it. Located right at the foot of Tsutenkaku Tower, the shop had a narrow entrance and a retro exterior that blended in with the neighborhood. Inside, the shop was just as small. A slightly flashy older lady brought us water, but soon left. It seems she was a customer... Instead, an elderly couple in their 70s emerged from the back. Without a doubt, these two were the owners. We ordered beer and mixed juice. The beer came in a can, so feel free to pour it yourself. The mixed juice had a strong syrupy taste. Traditional mixed juice must be like this, but personally, I would prefer a bit more banana or milk flavor. The interior of the shop was decorated with anime character goods, giving it a neat and tidy feel. Perhaps that's why the following customers were mostly young women or couples. It's the kind of place that makes you want to stop by. If you're looking to savor the atmosphere rather than the taste, this place is worth a visit. Thank you for the meal.

Under the Tsutenkaku Tower, I enjoyed having a leisurely coffee at this old-fashioned cafe. Although there are many kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) restaurants in the area, this cafe had a lot of regular customers, all of whom were men over 70 years old. They were chatting happily, but I preferred to sit quietly and enjoy my order. I chose the Morning Set, which included a sandwich and fruits for 480 yen (tax included). The sandwich had a filling of egg, lettuce, and cucumber, almost turning into a liquid. The fruits included banana slices cut in a stylish way for easy eating. The price was subtly charming to me. Despite smoking being allowed in the entire cafe, there was no smell of cigarettes inside, which was a relief. Overall, it was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

A charming elderly couple in their 80s, with the master wearing a crisp bow tie and the lovely wife in a small floral pattern, run a quaint cafe. Sitting at a table where two goldfish swim happily, we ordered a hot coffee and were pleasantly surprised when the master brought out a complimentary salad. The delicate cream with cornflakes sprinkled on top was a soothing touch. The peaceful atmosphere and lovingly crafted cafe menu truly warmed our hearts.

Took a short break from work. Had about 20 minutes to spare so decided to have an iced coffee at a cafe. Went into a cafe called Brother at the foot of Tsutenkaku Tower. I've seen this cafe many times since I was a kid, but this was my first time going in. It was around 2 p.m. and there were two other groups of customers already there. The cafe had a long layout with the kitchen in the back left. The master, wearing a red vest, was brewing coffee. I ordered an iced coffee and took a seat near the entrance. They brought me a wet towel and a sports newspaper, which was a great touch of Osaka-style hospitality. Of course, the front page was about the Hanshin Tigers. The master kindly suggested I move to a seat away from the direct blast of the air conditioning because it was too cold. I looked up at the left wall and saw a cutout from the Docomo 25th anniversary commercial featuring actor Kazunari Takahashi. It was a bit exciting to be sitting in the same seat as him. The iced coffee was served next, with a snack included. The snack was like potato chips, but it was actually rice crackers. The combination of the salty snack and the iced coffee was unique. Sitting at a low table, leaning forward to drink the iced coffee, the atmosphere felt like it was straight out of the 80s. There was a small fish tank about 30cm in size with a large goldfish swimming inside. It was incredibly cozy. The background music was instrumental music from the Showa era. Even with nothing to do, it felt like I could relax there forever. It was a great time. Thank you for the meal.

This is a traditional coffee shop located along the main street leading from Ebisucho Station to Tsutenkaku. Despite the name, it is actually run by an elderly couple in their 80s, not siblings as one might assume. The interior exudes a nostalgic atmosphere with its amber-colored seats. I ordered a cream soda, which brought back childhood memories, although it was missing the cherry on top. I got carried away and accidentally caused the foam to overflow when I reached for the ice cream first. As I savored the drink, I observed the various decorations like the giant goldfish, adding to the charming ambiance. Such old-fashioned establishments are rare nowadays, so it's important to appreciate them while they're still around. According to a magazine feature, the owners plan to keep the shop running until the Expo, so I look forward to visiting again.

I felt like having pudding at a cafe and wanted to go to a retro-style shop. Brother, do you remember which one we went to with Mom back in the Showa era? It was a small shop with four 4-seater tables and two 2-3 seater tables. In Shinsekai, there used to be cafes of this size every 20-30 meters. Before I could feel hungry, I ordered pudding parfait. Surprisingly, the pudding that came was better than the sample outside. It had whipped cream and cornflakes on top. However, I didn't like the combination of cornflakes with pudding, so I only had the cornflakes with whipped cream. The pudding was a little softer than expected. I had it with the loose whipped cream, banana, and kiwi. The taste was normal. The shop is run by an elderly couple in their 80s. They serve water with a hint of lemon peel, provide cloth towels, and bring hand sanitizer or alcohol when taking orders. They also open the door occasionally for good ventilation as part of their COVID-19 prevention measures. There is also a giant goldfish that looks like it's over 20 years old. It's a nice little shop. Pudding costs 420 yen including tax.

If you go up the stairs from Ebisucho subway station and gradually see a big Tsutenkaku Tower, along the shopping street leading to it, there is a Showa-era café called "Brother." The café has been run by the master and his wife, although originally it was managed by two brothers. The most surprising thing is that regular customers say it is the oldest café in Shinsekai. While the complete basis for this claim is debatable, the café still attracts many customers despite the presence of many other cafés in the neighborhood. There is no counter, only table seats, so you need to peek inside before entering to find the right timing. I'm not sure if it's a specialty, but they serve a drink called "Lesca," which is short for Lemon Squash. It is completely unsweetened and packed with freshly squeezed lemon juice, giving it a wake-up sourness. The lemon slice artistically twisted around the glass is a nice touch, and you can add syrup to your liking. I tried adding a little syrup towards the end, but personally, I found that the original unsweetened version was more refreshing. They also offer a variety of light meals, including the local favorite "Sobameshi," a Kobe soul food. It was my first time trying it outside, and the master cooked it in a regular frying pan, resulting in a flavorful and satisfying dish. The dishes are served in plastic containers that resemble the half shape of a coconut, making them easy to wash but visually unique.

A café located in Naniwa-ku, Osaka, in the Higashi-Emisu area. I stumbled upon this place while wandering around Shinsekai. I fell in love with the exterior and immediately went inside. When I opened the door, I was not disappointed by the retro world inside! It felt like time had stopped. Since I was already full, I ordered a pudding. It was an old-fashioned, firm pudding and very delicious. The master and the mama-san seemed kind, and it was a lovely café. I had a great time here!

Today I had lunch here. After enjoying watching the animals at the zoo, it was already lunchtime! People were spreading out their homemade bento boxes all over the zoo and having a fun lunchtime. After seeing everything at the zoo, we left to have lunch and ended up wandering around the area near Tsutenkaku Tower. We stumbled upon this place and were drawn in by the samples in front of the store. The inside of the store had a cozy feel, run by a couple in their 70s, with a tank of goldfish swimming and the menu pasted on the wall. I decided to try the sobameshi, a type of fried rice with soba noodles. The sobameshi was a bit mushy with finely cut noodles. The flavor was okay, nothing too special. It was a relaxing meal and as it started to get a bit crowded, we decided to leave. Thank you for the meal!

A long-established coffee shop in the new world, with a strong Showa era vibe. It feels like a distant past when you hear Showa. This was my first visit. I entered for lunch as there were light meals displayed in the sample showcase in front of the shop. The small shop has 6 tables, with a retro design featuring a fish tank with goldfish, and chairs and tables that are quite old-fashioned. The owner of the shop is also elderly. The omurice is 620 yen, and adding ice coffee as a set costs 250 yen. It was just the right size for me, although it may be slightly small for others. The chicken rice with butter, and an egg that's not quite half-cooked. Oh yes, the omurice from the old days wasn't always made with the fluffy finish like today. The way ketchup is poured, the slightly messy shaping, and the surface not quite turning fox-colored, it's all good at this shop. It's all part of the nostalgic Showa era charm. The elderly owner provides warm and friendly service typical of Osaka. Thank you for the meal.

I passed by the shop several times before finally going in. The interior had four 4-person tables, one 3-person table, and one 2-person table, totaling over 21 seats. It was run by a man and a woman. I didn't order coffee this time, but I could see a glimpse of the kitchen and it looked like they were using Nel drip hand drip. I was indecisive between curry, shrimp pilaf, and omelette rice, but ended up choosing sobameshi. There were salt, pepper, and the classic Osaka Worcestershire sauce on the table, but the dish was so delicious that I didn't need to add anything. Some people dislike pickled ginger, but I found it to be a nice accent and very tasty.

There are many retro cafes at the foot of Tsutenkaku, so when I come to Osaka, I stop by there to visit these cafes. This one, "Brother", is located right outside Ebisucho Station, with its small storefront standing out. The owners seem to be an elderly couple, and the customers are mostly older regulars. The small tables and the menu with photos on the wall give off a nostalgic Showa-era vibe. My friend and I ordered the classic Osaka cafe dishes - mixed juice, hotcakes, and omurice. The dishes and plates used have a homely feel, but the taste was delicious, comforting cafe food. The hotcakes come in two separate pieces, not stacked like I had hoped, but they were still easy to eat. I prefer hotcakes over the trendy pancakes any day. The mixed juice was refreshing and tasty. The cloth towel provided was a nice touch. I didn't have the experience of going to cafes like this when I was a child, but I can't help feeling nostalgic. It would be nice if these kinds of cafes quietly remained in my own town. I had a leisurely and nostalgic time there. Thank you for the meal.
