I took the Osaka Metro Chuo Line and headed towards Osaka Port... When coming to this area, you just have to try the omurice, right? I've tried several times before, but I've been rejected every time for the past 3 years. Finally, the time has come. "Ocean View" is a famous restaurant known for its giant omurice called "makura". For more details, visit their website here: https://tabelog.com/imgview/original?id=r7846317502767. The old location of the restaurant used to be closed on weekends and holidays, making it difficult for me to visit even after taking a day off on weekdays. However, this time I heard that they are open on Saturdays, so I decided to visit. The new restaurant was located on the second floor of a building with a restaurant on the first floor. Climbing the stairs leading to the entrance on the second floor, I felt a bit uneasy as there was no typical restaurant atmosphere. When I entered, the spacious interior resembled a hotel cafe. There were only about two other customers, so I was free to choose any seat and I chose a table near the entrance. Looking at the menu, they only served omurice and curry, keeping it simple. In the past, during my chubby days, I would have definitely ordered the "makura" (large omurice), but this time I verbally ordered the regular salad set. The food arrived in about 5 minutes: Omurice Regular Mini Salad Set for 950 yen. Haha, even the regular size is quite big! The omurice was shaped like a plump caterpillar, with the egg not fully covering the rice (lol). It seemed like the Ocean View style was to pour the tomato sauce provided separately over the omurice. First, I tried the salad before the rice... The salad was a mix of lettuce, cucumber, tomato, celery, and egg tossed in French dressing. It was refreshing and delicious! After eating about half of the salad, it was time for the omurice! I split it open with a spoon, revealing a simple ketchup rice with ham and onions inside. I tried it as it is first, and the ketchup was mild with a hint of buttery flavor. The egg was not the trendy runny style but a nostalgic firm finish! Then, I piled on the tomato sauce provided separately! The sauce was a mildly sweet ketchup that paired well with the firm egg. The potato salad on the side had a very mild seasoning, almost like mashed potatoes. However, the flavorless potato didn't interfere with the omurice, but instead complemented it. I took my time and enjoyed it for about 15 minutes. It felt good to have my stomach filled with rice after a long time. Ah, I used to eat rice like this at every meal before (lol). I paid at the cash register approved by the Ministry of Finance, which has been inherited from the previous location. The elegant and friendly service by the mature female staff was also great. If I have the opportunity to come here again, I would like to try the "makura" next time. But, maybe I won't be able to fit in anymore (lol). Thank you for the delicious meal. Thank you.
