I thought I had already visited this place, so I had been ignoring it, but recently I saw a review from a regular customer and was shocked, so I quickly came here. I bought some shumai knowing that I don't like pork buns and left. The shumai was very meaty and quite delicious. The accompanying sauce was a bit sweet. I applied some tube mustard and enjoyed it.

On this day, I casually visited "Heiwakaikan no Butaman Honkan" in Uomachi, Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City.
◇Exterior and Interior
This pork bun shop is located in Uomachi, Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City. Established in 1960, it is a well-known local shop with roots in Taiwan.
◇Seating
There is a simple counter for seating.
◇Menu Composition
In addition to pork buns, there are steamed buns, sweet buns, pickled vegetable buns, chimaki, shumai, and boiled dumplings. The items ordered were as follows:
- Pork Bun (330 yen) → Tax included. The familiar pork bun, but it feels like it has been a long time. The main feature is its large size! Even those with small appetites will be satisfied with just one pork bun. The chewy dough and generous onion-filled filling have a slightly sweet taste. It can be enjoyed as is or with the classic vinegar soy sauce.
◆Strong Points
The beloved large pork buns in Kitakyushu!
◆Service
Average.
◆Summary
It's always the same pattern of realizing after finishing eating, "I forgot to buy chimaki..." It's a mystery why I forget every time. Thank you for the meal.

Upon arriving at Kitakyushu Airport from Haneda Airport, I found a shop where they were serving beer and pork buns in the afternoon as the epidemic had subsided. In a corner of the shop, there was a small table and chairs set up. The pork buns here were big, filled with delicious ingredients, and the beer was a perfect match. I enjoyed savoring the pork bun while sipping on beer. I had been looking forward to this moment. Thank you for the delicious meal.

The pork buns at Heiwa Kaikan are really delicious and I highly recommend trying them. It's a shame if you haven't had them before. I would love to enjoy these pork buns with a beer in the eat-in area of the restaurant, but due to COVID-19, it hasn't been possible for the past two years. Despite that, eating the pork buns outside is still enjoyable. Heiwa Kaikan's pork buns are really tasty!

The pork buns are delicious! The pork buns here in Kokura, Kitakyushu, are incredibly tasty, alongside the famous "Akiyoshi River pork buns". However, the type is completely different from Akiyoshi River's - the filling is moist. If it weren't for Covid-19, I could enjoy biting into the pork bun while drinking beer in the corner next to the shop. But for now, I'll have to settle for getting a hot one to go and enjoying it on the side of the street. Still, the deliciousness of the pork bun remains unchanged. It's been a while since I visited Kokura, and I noticed that across from Maruwa Supermarket, a new shop called "Heiwa Kaikan" had opened. It seems like it's still popular and tasty.

A shop located right off the shopping street with a showcase displaying huge meat buns catches your eye. I've been eating their familiar taste for about 10 years now. The buns are quite filling, one is enough to make you full. They are not very juicy, but rather light with lots of vegetables packed inside. It's not incredibly delicious, but sometimes I crave it. It's totally fine in its own way.

It's big, delicious, and nostalgic ^_^ It costs 280 yen for one, but it's equivalent to two convenience store pork buns. It feels heavy when you hold it! The skin is thick and the filling is similar to gyoza. Eating just one gives you a satisfying meal. In Kokura, Yangtze's pork bun is more famous, but the filling is completely different, not like a chunk of meat and juice. They have different characteristics, so why not enjoy comparing both? By the way, about 30 years ago when I was a student, this place was a Chinese restaurant, and their plate of thick noodles was delicious.

In Kokura, when it comes to the most popular meat buns, it's the Yangtze River meat buns, but the meat buns at Heiwa Kaikan are the second most popular. Since they are run by the long-established Tetsunabe Gyoza, you can't go wrong with the delicious meat bun filling. After visiting three restaurants for lunch that day, we stopped by for dessert-like eat-in at this place.

I decided to buy dinner in Kokura and thought of getting Chimaki from Akouji, but they were already sold out by 5 pm. I walked a little further to Heiwa Kaikan and they still had some left! Each one costs 380 yen. I also bought a pork bun for 280 yen. Frozen items are best steamed to reheat, but you can also microwave them for about 3 minutes. The Chimaki turned out nicely hot. It has a good flavor with pickled mustard greens, pork, ginkgo nuts, and small shrimp. The rice is chewy. The pork bun is huge! I didn't measure it, but it looks about 15 cm in diameter. The microwave made the skin a bit dry, but the generous filling makes up for it.

The day after watching the Giravants game, I had lunch at a teppanyaki restaurant. It's been a year since a Girasapo fan recommended a place in Kokura to me, and I was thrilled to be able to come back this year and taste the familiar flavors again. As I looked outside the restaurant, I noticed something interesting. It seemed to be a meat bun shop. Last year, I fell in love with the pork buns at Yangtze River, so naturally, I had to try them again this year! I thought, maybe Kokura has some interesting pork buns too? After lunch, I stopped by the shop. The staff told me they were 250 yen each. They were quite large for the price. I bought one and felt the weight as it was handed to me. It was different from the Yangtze River buns, not greasy but filled with finely crushed filling with a lot of vegetables. The taste was refreshing, not as heavy as the meat buns I've had before. It reminded me of a higher quality version of the buns you might find at a convenience store. For women, one bun might be enough for a satisfying lunch. While Yangtze River buns are delicious, these were also quite good.

Oh? I posted in the wrong order. I rented a bicycle in Kokura and tried the manhole card mission, but unfortunately it didn't work out. I climbed up to Kokura Castle and was quite satisfied. The tourist information center recommended visiting the Tanga Market as well, but I decided to pass on that this time. On my way back to return the rental bike, I stumbled upon a charming pork bun shop in a shopping street alley. Just as an office lady was buying a pork bun, the shopkeeper said, "You're lucky, we still have some left." It seems to be quite popular. I bought one as a souvenir. I continued to wander around and asked a lady for advice. She said, "I think it'll be fine, but you should go for the uncooked ones just to be safe." That was a good suggestion, considering my backpack was still jostling around. I safely brought the souvenir back home and had my wife steam it for us. The large pork bun was satisfying for one person. My wife and daughter were very pleased with the pork buns from Horai, saying they were slightly different from the ones they were used to. My wife claimed there was a hint of nuts in them, but I couldn't taste it. Thank you for the meal! 🍴

The other day, I went to Heiwakan for the first time in about 10 years. I always pass by it, but this season makes me crave pork buns. The exterior has remained the same for a long time. Inside, the pork buns are big and delicious! They have a generous portion for only 250 yen, which is a great deal. I think I could have just this for lunch. The pork buns also come with delicious pickled vegetables. If you ever visit Gintengai in Kokura, be sure to stop by Heiwakan. You won't be disappointed! I visited the shop on Sunday evening. They were selling delicious-looking pork buns, so I decided to buy one on a whim. The shop staff put the pork bun in a paper bag and then in a plastic bag for easy carrying. Their kind service made me happy. I quickly returned to my hotel and enjoyed the pork bun while it was still warm. It was big. Very big. It might suit my taste more than the pork buns I eat in Yokohama Chinatown. Thank you for the meal. 2011.07.31 Food exploring.

I visited a restaurant called Heiwakan based on the recommendation of someone from Kokura, my hometown. I remembered seeing the sign of the restaurant and it brought back memories from the past. I had tried Heiwakan's pork bun 15 years ago when I used to visit Kokura for work (I remember it being quite large). After that, I never had the chance to visit Kokura again and completely forgot about it. I decided to buy the refrigerated pork bun as a souvenir. The staff at the restaurant recommended steaming it rather than using a microwave, so I used the steaming function of my rice cooker at 100°C for about 10 minutes and it turned out delicious. Personally, I prefer the generous portion and natural flavor of Kokura's pork buns, whether from Heiwakan or Choshokyo. Next time, I plan to try Choshokyo's pork bun and compare it after a long time.

I received a pork bun as a souvenir from Kokura. It was delivered by cool courier service. The frozen pork bun was quite large, about 20cm in diameter. Following the cooking instructions, I steamed it right away. Inside the fluffy and chewy skin, there was juicy filling that oozed out with meat juice. The slightly sweet filling was exquisite, packed with umami! The skin was a bit thick, so I think increasing the filling or thinning out the skin would make it even more delicious. Nevertheless, it was the most delicious pork bun I've had in a long time. I heard they also have other products like pickled mustard leaf buns and Chinese sticky rice, so I'm thinking of ordering those too.

In Kokura, the pork buns from Yangtze River are well-known, but I think this place has probably been around for a long time too. I lived in Kokura over 10 years ago, and I think it was there back then. However, it was my first time trying it. On a holiday lunchtime, I suddenly remembered it and decided to stop by. There are no tables or chairs. There is just a small counter against the wall. For some reason, there is also a place to wash your hands. Well, standing and eating pork buns on the spot seems to be the way to go. The size is about the size of a woman's hand. Although it is not thick, it has a surprising weight and size. It feels like it never ends no matter how much you eat. The filling is mostly pickled mustard greens. For a moment, I thought, "Is this a pickled mustard greens bun?" The taste is more of the vegetables (pickled mustard greens) than the meat. The overall flavor is also strong. If you plan to have it as a snack... you will end up quite full.

The pork buns here are delicious. The skin, sold separately under the name "mantou," is just right - not too hard, not too soft, with a nice chewy texture. The filling has a good balance of meat and vegetables, with a flavor that is not too strong. Although the pork buns here are larger than usual, they are easy to eat in one go. Priced at 250 yen, they may be a bit expensive for pork buns, but considering their size and taste, the cost performance is not bad. Even for people living in Kokura, this place may not be well-known, but personally, I think the pork buns here should be more famous.

Yokohama, Kobe, Nagasaki, and other places are famous for their delicious Chinese cuisine. I have tried Chinese cuisine in Yokohama, Kobe, and Nagasaki, and I was impressed by the meat buns here! The outer skin of the bun is so elastic, chewy, and has a good bite to it. It has a slight sweetness to it and even just the bun part alone is very delicious! Of course, the filling is also very fulfilling! It is juicy and packed with meat and vegetables. It is so delicious that after eating these meat buns, other well-known meat buns from different shops don't taste as good anymore. It's scary! (laughs)
