I visited a village for sightseeing and it was so vast that I got tired from walking a lot, so I took a break at a cafeteria that looked like a city hall. I had an iced coffee, which tasted like the coffee from a Coca-Cola vending machine. It was a strong coffee with a simple bitterness like instant coffee.

A slightly late lunch. On the way, I missed eating, so I had to fill my stomach at the cafeteria in the facility before touring the village. They stop serving meals at 3:00 pm. I ordered at around 2:58 pm and the staff was very kind, without making any unpleasant faces. They explained that they could serve noodle dishes relatively quickly, and recommended either soy sauce, miso, or salt ramen, or zaru soba. They said other meals would take longer. I chose miso ramen. It was delicious and stable, not inferior to regular ramen. The taste was sufficient, but as an amusement museum with a village theme, it would be nice to see more nostalgic atmosphere or some more creativity. However, since it is not operated by a private company, it may be difficult to expect that much.

Tondenhei Set Meal for 1100 yen. As the name suggests, this restaurant is located in a pioneer village. They offer a variety of dishes that evoke the images of "pioneering" and "Hokkaido". I ordered the classic Tondenhei Set Meal. The taste is nothing special, but it is decent enough for a cafeteria. The mashed potatoes were fluffy and had a strong potato flavor, which left a lasting impression.

I planned to visit the Hokkaido Pioneer Village in the morning and have lunch there. The village itself was not very crowded, which made me a little concerned. We were planning to have Genghis Khan or Tondenhei set meal for lunch, but found out that they were no longer available. As a souvenir of coming to Sapporo, we ended up ordering miso ramen. My partner had pork miso soup and imo mochi. The staff seemed to be working hard with a reduced number of people, and when the dishes were ready in the kitchen, a bell would ring and the waiter would call out through a microphone. It felt a bit lonely, but I think the prices were reasonable and the food was quite delicious.

I visited the restaurant around 12:40 on a weekday. The Tondenhei set meal was discontinued, and the Yanshu set meal was sold out. When I tried to order miso ramen, I was told that they were not taking orders until 14:30 because there was only one cook. With about 20 out of 100 seats filled, it did seem like it might be tough for just one person. I heard that the cafe at the nearby Hokkaido Museum only had sweet items, so I decided to buy something that didn't require cooking here and ate a frozen pan sweet inside the dining area. I bought the Pasco Whipped x Custard Frozen Pan Sweet for 230 yen, and since it was frozen, the bread had a powdery texture. However, at 13:02, someone ordered three servings of ramen! Somehow, they were able to resume taking orders, but I wish they had announced it. I lined up again and ordered miso ramen at 13:06. The Sapporo miso ramen for 790 yen had noodles that weren't to my liking, but the soup was flavorful without being too salty, and you could really taste the greatness of the miso flavor.

I entered the pioneer village to escape the cold. The pioneer village closes at 4:30 pm in winter. Since I entered around 3:30 pm, only light snacks were available. I had a cappuccino and some grilled mochi with sweet soy sauce, which was also enjoyed by my daughters.

I visited with my child to explore the pioneer village, but it was lunchtime so we decided to eat at this cafeteria. The interior was spacious and air-conditioned. There were other families with children and multi-generational families as well. The decor was simple, like a cafeteria at a city hall, very clean but lacking in pioneer village charm or retro feel. It was a hot day, so we ordered cold soba noodles. It arrived quickly due to the lack of crowds during the pandemic. The taste was neither good nor bad. We wanted to explore the village facilities quickly, so we slurped down our noodles and left. The menu was limited this time, perhaps due to COVID, but next time if we have more time, I would like to leisurely explore the village and try other menu items in between. Thank you for the meal. We will come again.

This is a restaurant located in the Hokkaido Kaitaku no Mura (Pioneer Village). It costs money to enter the village, but it's a fun place with old buildings from the Meiji and Taisho eras that have been relocated and restored. The restaurant itself is decent, offering menus related to Hokkaido's pioneer history like the Yanshu set meal and the Tondenhei set meal. I tried the herring soba, and the sweetened herring was indeed delicious. However, the soba noodles were a bit soft and thick, more like udon, which was a bit disappointing.

Title "2018 Autumn Sapporo Trip Part 6: Food at the Pioneer Village?"
On the second day of the 2018 autumn Sapporo trip, we visited the Hokkaido Pioneer Village. After exploring the village for about two hours, we decided to have lunch at the Pioneer Village Dining Hall. I ordered the "Yanshu Set Meal" for 800 yen, while my friend ordered the "Large Serving Pioneer Soba" for 750 yen. The set meal included dishes like kinpira burdock, simmered hijiki seaweed, pickled radish, pork miso soup, and plum kombu rice. Due to a shortage of herring, the original dish was supposed to be herring soboro rice, but it was replaced with plum kombu rice. Despite the substitution, the meal was delicious and satisfying. The plum kombu rice was particularly impressive, with a mix of flavors that left a lasting impression. Overall, the meal was nutritious and filling, and definitely worth the price. I look forward to trying the Tondenhei set meal for 1000 yen on my next visit.

I had "imo mochi" at the dining hall in the Hokkaido Pioneer Village. It was a perfect snack for a short break.

I was surprised by how little ingredients there were in the pork miso soup... If it's 750 yen for this, I'll just make it myself. There was no side dish for the rice, and it felt like something was missing.
