The tapioca had a nice sweetness from the black sugar and paired well with the matcha, it was quite delicious. There was a line and they gave me an order form first. They had two sizes, M and L, and since I was dreaming of the authentic jumbo tapioca, I ordered the L size and finished it in no time.

I don't know where the second tapioca milk tea boom will stop. It used to be concentrated in Amerikamura, but now it is rapidly expanding around major terminal stations. I avoid overly sweet things, so I chose the "Jasmine Milk Tea". It turned out to be a lighter color than I expected (laughs). However, the tapioca tends to become quite hard after some time, and there seems to be a difference in tapioca quality among different stores. There was a tapioca shop near my place with not much of a line, but before I knew it, there was a huge queue behind me! Despite the long line, everyone was saying, "Yes! It's not that crowded today!" It seems like it's usually even busier, haha. Tapioca Milk in medium size costs 485 yen, and for extra tapioca, it's just 65 yen more! I was surprised at how cheap that was! Great value for money! I chose the normal sweetness level, which was still quite sweet. It was just right for me. The tapioca pearls were nice and chewy. Even though I paid extra for more tapioca, it was a lot! I wonder if the normal serving is already quite generous? It was cheaper than any other place I've been to for extra tapioca! They packed it well and provided a straw, which you can insert yourself, making it convenient to buy and enjoy later.

The Kansai Walker magazine with Sasshii on the cover features a special on Kansai's Hakata cuisine and tapioca. There are many popular tapioca shops near Namba as well. CoCo is located near Namba Station, next to Komeda's, and there is always a noticeable line. On this day, the line was about 10 people long, so I decided to wait in line. However, tapioca isn't pre-made, so it takes some time to prepare. I ordered the popular Tapioca Milk Tea for 485 yen and received it in less than 20 minutes. In Fukuoka Tenjin, I had to wait for an hour, so this wasn't too bad. Here, you can specify the sweetness level and amount of ice, so I chose normal sweetness with less ice. The milk tea was refreshing and delicious, and the tapioca had a nice chewy texture. However, it wasn't as sweet as the one from Tenjin, which may be a matter of preference. I drank it all in front of Don Quijote before heading to NMB Theatre (make sure to finish your drink as they don't allow drinks in the lobby).

I wanted to drink tapioca around Namba Station and found this shop in the search results. I thought it was inside Namba CITY, so I desperately looked at the map to find it, but couldn't. After some time, I realized it was outside, haha. There was already a huge line, with lots of high school girls and foreign tourists waiting. Since it was my first time going, I ordered tapioca milk tea. In terms of taste, I think the tapioca was on the slightly harder side. Maybe the milk tea could have been a bit sweeter...? You can choose the sweetness before ordering, so maybe I should have adjusted it there! But I didn't really understand, so I just went with the regular. It's all about personal preference, right? I became captivated by it in Taiwan, so I went to the one that opened in Namba! I went on a weekday evening, but I was surprised that there was no line at all. The pearls are small and have a good chewy texture, and the taste of tapioca is the most intense here. I ordered a matcha latte with tapioca, and it was incredibly delicious. Right now, tapioca milk tea is super popular among young girls ♡ I vaguely remember drinking it in the past, but my husband says it's totally different from what he used to drink! He says the tapioca pearls are big and gummy-like, and delicious! So, I decided to try it out by getting takeout from the newly opened [Coco Toka Namba City store] near my office. The store is located on the first floor of Namba City Main Building. It's right before the road that connects to the South Building, next to Daiki Suisan. There were about 10 people lined up in front of the store, mostly teenage girls, and I waited in line for about 15 minutes to reach the order counter. There were various options, but I chose from the top 5 popular choices. I got the Tapioca Milk Tea (Medium size 485 yen) for myself, and my daughter got the Tapioca Lactic Acid Bacteria Mango (Medium size 585 yen). Before ordering, I asked if I could take it to go, and they said yes, so I requested it without ice. However, they mentioned that the tapioca would harden if not consumed within 2-3 hours, so I made a mental note of that and placed my order. After ordering, I waited a few minutes at the pickup counter on the right side of the store. The drinks were handed to me as they were, and I was asked if I wanted a straw, which caught me off guard. It seems like the order counter and pickup counter are not fully connected, so please be aware of that. Since it was a takeout, they put the drinks in a paper bag for me. After waiting for about an hour on the Nankai train ride back home, I stored the drinks in the fridge while waiting for my daughter to come home, and we enjoyed them right at the 3-hour mark. The Tapioca Milk Tea had a normal level of sweetness, and the balance of richness and sweetness was perfect. The tapioca pearls and the drink itself were plentiful and satisfying. My daughter's Lactic Acid Bacteria Mango had a normal level of sweetness as well, and it was a blend of mango juice and something like Yakult, which tasted just right and delicious! My daughter described it as similar to a mango lassi, but since I'm not familiar with mango lassi, I couldn't quite agree with her, haha. Even after 3 hours, the tapioca remained chewy and retained its deliciousness, making it a great takeout option for drinks. I noticed that there was always a long line at this place, so I was curious about it. When I happened to pass by and saw no line, I decided to try it out. I ordered a standard tapioca milk tea at the counter. The tapioca and milk tea were good, but I felt it could have been a bit sweeter to suit the local taste. The amount of tapioca was generous and quite filling. I wish they would adjust that a bit. The level of fullness was beyond just a snack, it was quite satisfying. The taste didn't seem to have changed much in the past twenty years. I remember there was a trend for it a while back, but I wonder why it's gaining popularity again now. Perhaps it's a new taste for the younger generation, or maybe it's part of a strategy to attract people from Chinese-speaking countries who have moved here. I'm not sure about the reasons for its current popularity, but I enjoyed the nostalgic taste. I don't want to wait in line again, so I'll revisit when it's less crowded.
