Located on Yamaso Street, near the north side of JR Heio Station in Fukuoka City, Chuo Ward, is the Chinese restaurant "Chuka Yokan" that opened in 2009. Run by the owner and chef, Ms. Zhu Huali, who hails from Shandong Province, China, this restaurant is known for its authentic Chinese cuisine at affordable prices. The specialty dish, "Daoxiao Mian," or knife-shaved noodles, comes in two varieties: seafood and tan-tan. Other popular dishes include juicy xiao long bao, crispy fried dumplings, sweet and sour pork, and mapo tofu. The restaurant's name, "Yokan," means "my home" in Chinese, reflecting its cozy and welcoming atmosphere. During a recent visit for lunch, the reviewer enjoyed the Daoxiao Tan-tan Men set meal, which included fried rice, salad, and pickles. The noodles were thick and chewy, with a flavorful sesame broth that had a spicy kick. The fried rice was perfectly cooked and the salad was fresh and crunchy, complemented by a savory sesame dressing. Overall, the reviewer highly recommends Chuka Yokan for its delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine.

I used to pass by this Chinese restaurant but for some reason had never visited before. During the Bon holidays, when other shops were closed and this one was empty, I decided to finally give it a try. The sign outside looked a bit faded and not very appetizing, which is why I had hesitated to visit before, but I wish I had come sooner. The basic soup was delicious and well-prepared, and this time I tried the tantanmen noodles, but I would like to try other menu items as well. Next time, I want to try the Hakata fried udon, champon noodles, and the mixed vegetables dish! They also offer some authentic Chinese dishes, so I am looking forward to trying those too.

I had been curious about the Chinese restaurant with the signboard for xiaolongbao for a while. Finally, I was able to go there. I called in advance and asked if there was parking available, and they said I could park in front of the shop. I managed to park in a tight spot (sweating). The restaurant required taking off shoes before entering, but I accidentally entered with my shoes on (oops). I sat down and ordered the "shrimp chili set meal," "hand-pulled seafood noodles," and "xiaolongbao." The xiaolongbao was 500 yen for 5 pieces!? First, I tried the "hand-pulled seafood noodles." The soup was delicious but extremely hot. The noodles were chewy. Next was the "shrimp chili set meal." It had a sweet chili sauce which I liked (*^^*). Lastly, the "xiaolongbao." Honestly, it was disappointing. It had a strange smell when I put it in my mouth. And there was no soup inside, which was the most enjoyable part of xiaolongbao. It was a shame because the other dishes were tasty.

I had been curious about the Chinese restaurant "Rouka (Yoka)" in Hirao, which has been featured on local TV and by local talents on Youtube for its "knife-cut noodles." It is located a bit away from Nishitetsu Hirao Station, along Hirao Sanso Street, so I never had the chance to visit. However, while cycling around, I decided to stop by. It's about a 5-minute bike ride from Nishitetsu Hirao Station, but it would take over 10 minutes on foot. There is only one parking space in front of the restaurant, so it might be better to use a coin parking lot if possible. Upon entering, I had to take off my shoes at the entrance, which is unusual for a Chinese restaurant. The interior was spacious, and I sat at a table with a sunken kotatsu to check the menu. For lunch, I ordered the "tantan knife-cut noodles" for 750 yen and added a side of fried rice for an additional 250 yen. The knife-cut noodles arrived in about 10 minutes, and they had a mild soup with a hint of spiciness. The noodles had a unique texture, thick in some parts and thin in others, which I enjoyed. The fried rice was well-seasoned and complemented the noodles perfectly. Overall, I was satisfied with the knife-cut noodles lunch set for exactly 1000 yen. It was a delightful meal.

I visited a Chinese restaurant called Joya in Hirao for the first time. Since knife-cut noodles seem to be their specialty, I wonder if they are from Shanxi Province? For lunch, I ordered a set with knife-cut noodles, fried rice, and added a side of boiled dumplings. The noodles were thick and had a good chew, similar to suinton or hoto soup. The dumpling skins were also good. Next time, I will try a regular main dish.

Located a 9-minute walk from Nishitetsu Hirao Station, this Chinese restaurant along Yamasou Street is run by a Chinese owner. While offering typical Chinese dishes, they also serve familiar Fukuoka dishes like Champon and Sautéed Udon. In addition to the standard menu, their specialties include Knife-Cut Noodles, Xiao Long Bao, Gyoza, and Shumai. Customers are required to remove their shoes before entering, and the tables are sunken kotatsu-style. During lunchtime, you can order a la carte dishes as well as set menus featuring popular Chinese dishes and Knife-Cut Noodles. The Knife-Cut Noodles come in two varieties: Tantanmen and Seafood, with the Tantanmen priced at 650 yen for a single order and 780 yen for a set including fried rice, salad, and pickles. The soup is a mildly spicy sesame oil and chili-infused broth reminiscent of Champon. The irregularly shaped Knife-Cut Noodles absorb the soup well, providing a chewy and satisfying texture. The lunch set for 780 yen includes a choice of main dish from a set menu of seven items, with one free rice refill. The main dish options include dishes like Shrimp Chili, Green Pepper Beef, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Mapo Tofu. The review also mentions the restaurant's COVID-19 prevention measures and the availability of various set menus for dinner on weekdays.

I love eating lunch every day, but it's hard to find new restaurants to try because I've already tried most of the local eateries in my town. Living in the countryside can be tough because I have to go out of town to discover new places to eat. Even though I'm living on a tight budget, I still enjoy eating out. I can't afford luxurious lunches like some of my followers, but I try to find a satisfying lunch for under 800 yen. I decided to drive around Fukuoka's Chuo-ku Hirao area and stumbled upon a Chinese restaurant that seemed like it was from the mainland. I walked into the restaurant just before noon on a Sunday and was greeted with a warm welcome. I took off my shoes and was seated at a table with a sunken kotatsu. I ordered the "Knife-Cut Seafood Noodles + Fried Rice" set for 780 yen including tax. I wanted the Five-Ingredient Hot Noodles, but it wasn't on the menu. The staff, consisting of a Chinese man in his 50s and his wife, served the set promptly. I checked out the seafood ingredients, which included clam meat and red shellfish. There were no squid or shrimp, just vegetables like Chinese cabbage, komatsuna, carrots, shimeji mushrooms, and wood ear mushrooms in a chicken broth-based soup with a light salt seasoning. I imagined it would taste even better with soy sauce. The knife-cut noodles reminded me of the thick noodles in Oita's dago-jiru soup, with a chewy texture and a bit of firmness in the core. The generous portion of noodles left me feeling full. The half portion of fried rice was simple and delicious, made with eggs, onions, carrots, and green onions with a good balance of salt and pepper. I wish I had ordered a full portion instead of a half. The meal also came with a vegetable salad and what seemed like dried radish pickles. Overall, it was a satisfying meal at a reasonable price, and I left the restaurant with a full stomach.

The restaurant seems to be a unique place, serving izakaya dishes without traditional seating. The menu is quite affordable, with options like seafood knife-cut noodles for 650 yen, with an additional 130 yen for fried rice. The knife-cut noodles have a simple, rustic flavor, with a basic salt broth that may benefit from a spicier kick. The wheat dough-like flavor reminds me of Yoshida's udon. The noodles could perhaps be boiled a bit longer, but the lack of salt in the broth may justify the current texture. It's a challenging place to evaluate, but I feel like I'll have to come back again to fully appreciate it.

On a Saturday during lunchtime, it was my first visit to "Chuka Yoka" in Fukuoka. The restaurant is located near the intersection of Hirao Higashi 5-chome on Yamaso Street in Chuo-ku, Fukuoka. There is space in front of the restaurant where one regular car can be parked. Upon entering the restaurant, you need to take off your shoes and store them in the shoebox. Inside the restaurant, there is a counter seat at the back, and all the table seats are sunken kotatsu style. When I visited, about half of the seats were occupied, and even though I was dining alone, I was seated at a table. Soon after, chilled oolong tea was served! Looking at the menu, there were lunch sets, noodles, rice bowls, and side dishes like "shumai," "gyoza," and "xiao long bao." There was also a daily lunch special, and on that day, it was a set of "sweet and spicy stir-fried chicken with 7 dishes for 780 yen." Since I was there for the knife-cut noodles, I chose the set of "Knife-Cut Tantanmen" and "Fried Rice" for 780 yen. You can choose between "Knife-Cut Seafood Noodles" or "Knife-Cut Tantanmen" for the knife-cut noodles. Knife-cut noodles are made by cutting a lump of wheat flour dough on a board with a special knife, then directly boiling it in a pot, resulting in uneven thickness and a unique texture. The knife-cut noodles, fried rice, salad, and pickles were all served together on a tray. The knife-cut noodles were topped with bean sprouts, spinach, ground pork, and green onions. The soup had a slightly spicy sesame-flavored chicken base. The noodles were uneven and chewy, with a decent portion. The ground pork was well-seasoned and delicious, with bean sprouts and spinach adding a nice touch. The spiciness was mild, so a bit more would be nice! The fried rice was moist rather than dry, with a good seasoning balance. The egg and onion flavors were excellent! The salad consisted of lettuce, watercress, carrots, and a generous amount of sesame dressing. It was delicious and filling. Next time, I'll try the "Knife-Cut Seafood Noodles"! Thank you for the meal!

I came here because I wanted to eat knife-cut noodles. I ordered the lunch set with fried rice for 780 yen. The knife-cut noodles with spicy sauce were surprisingly white in color. The spiciness was not very strong. The noodles were chewy and unique. The taste was okay. Next time, I might try the shredded pork with green peppers set for 780 yen.

Dim sum and beer at a Chinese-style drinking spot in Hirao called "Nyoja". Located on the Hirao Sanso Street in Hirao, this Chinese restaurant "Nyoja" is run by Chinese staff, though it's unclear if they speak Hakata dialect. Customers take off their shoes before entering and sit at table seats. I ordered a bottle of beer and some xiaolongbao for 400 yen. Unfortunately, there were no lotus roots available. The xiaolongbao was served in a small dish, with a nice soup filling and piping hot. The beer was 500 yen, so the total bill came to 900 yen. Enjoying some Chinese snacks and drinks here is quite affordable.

It's about a 5-minute walk from Nishitetsu Hirao Station, located along Hirao Sansou Street. Across the road, you'll find the sweet shop Ishimura and the bakery Se Tre Bon. There is parking space for one car in front of the shop, but larger cars may have difficulty. When you open the sliding door, you take off your shoes at the entrance. It used to look like an izakaya. The table seats with sunken kotatsu are cozy. For lunch, they offer set meals like mapo tofu with knife-cut noodles, rice bowls, and more. They also have a set with knife-cut noodles and fried rice for 700 yen. I ordered my favorite knife-cut noodles and boiled dumplings for 400 yen, as well as steamed dumplings for 400 yen after the owner recommended them saying "the filling inside is different". My companion loves pan-fried dumplings, so we also ordered those for 400 yen. The spicy knife-cut noodles start off mild but gradually build up heat. The noodles are thick but have a soft and gentle texture that I love. Unfortunately, the soup was not quite to my liking. The boiled dumplings were chewy and the filling was delicious, just the way I like it. The steamed dumplings had a different taste with shiitake mushrooms in them, and I preferred the boiled dumplings. It's a shame that smoking is allowed, but I would like to go back again. Thank you for the meal.

I had lunch at this restaurant and was surprised by how spacious it was. The prices were reasonable and the knife-cut noodles were chewy with a gentle soup. I would like to visit again for dinner to try more dishes.

This shop offers incredible value for money. Everything is delicious and surprisingly cheap. The sesame dumplings here have a sesame filling instead of red bean paste, making it easy to eat even after drinking. Definitely give it a try! \(^^)/
