浜のゴジラ
I grew up in Toyora Town, Yamaguchi Prefecture, with a population of 15,000 people. It takes about 30 minutes by car from my hometown to reach Shimonoseki, the largest city in Yamaguchi Prefecture with a population of 250,000. At 19, I left home and moved to Kitakyushu City, a city with a population of 1 million. The crowdedness and tall buildings were overwhelming. At 26, I moved to Fukuoka City, a city with a population of 1.6 million, which is about 1.5 times the size of Kitakyushu but feels like 50 times more urban. I was almost in tears every day due to the large number of people. I fell in love with Nokonoshima, a place where the past, present, and future coexist, with modern high-rise buildings alongside Edo-era post towns and traditional fishing ports. I finally visited Nokonoshima, a 10-minute boat ride from Nokonoshima. I decided to rent a bicycle for 500 yen per hour, which was much cheaper than the 2,000 yen for Shikanoshima. I inexplicably decided to ride a bike to the observatory, climbing slopes with over 30 degrees of incline. However, the view from the observatory was not as impressive as I had imagined, just climbing a lighthouse-like structure. I then visited Hayata Kofun, completely hidden in the bushes, but it was too dangerous to go further with my light equipment. I descended the mountain and ordered a Nokonoshima burger. It had a juicy patty with plenty of black pepper, crispy bread, sweet tomato, spicy onion, and the black pepper interfering with the patty's umami. It was quite a junky Nokonoshima burger. In a burger showdown in Fukuoka's Nishi Ward, I would prefer Ikimatsu Burger from Nishi Ward over Nokonoshima Burger. My favorite is still the Sasebo Burger. The view of the port has become stylish with the establishment of 5th Avenue. I enjoy the giant burgers with a total weight of over 500g at Log Kit or the Wagyu beef patty burger at Cafe Libera near Sasebo Station. Hikari's 5th Avenue store may not be the best, but I still find myself stopping by on my way from Ramen Toride to Sasebo Station. Nonetheless, my first visit to Nokonoshima was enjoyable. I have to go back to try the hot dog at Hironoko Market.
