I moved to Fukuoka in 2011, dreaming of living there. However, Fukuoka was not as easy as I thought. The first workplace I joined was very strict... I later heard that the seniors who were guiding me were strict because they were treated the same way by their seniors. When us younger generation, who were more laid back, joined the workplace, the atmosphere changed a lot. But when I first joined, it was really tough. However, I had come to Fukuoka, a city with a population of 1.6 million, compared to the 1 million in Kitakyushu where I used to live. In terms of urbanization, Fukuoka is about 10 times more urbanized. It was so urbanized that it was hard to live there. I used to cry every day while looking at Fukuoka Tower. Then came Patisserie Petite Jolie, one of the two major players in Moji Port along with Sugar Bear. It was expensive, too expensive. A cake cost 500 yen, more expensive than ramen. On the day I received my winter bonus, I didn't expect to receive any bonus as I had just joined on October 1st, but I was given 15,000 yen. Looking at Fukuoka Tower from Higashi-Iruka, I made a vow to continue working at this workplace and living in Fukuoka. I bought a cake from Petite Jolie with that bonus. It was expensive but not that great. It's been 11 years since then... Fukuoka has become my third hometown after Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu. I heard from my colleagues that the pistachio cake was delicious, so after 11 years, I revisited Petite Jolie. I prefer chocolate shops. If it were Moji Port, I would choose Sugar Bear or Anvi. I didn't know, but the pastry chef is from Gasshu in Ohori. Gasshu in Ohori is one of the most famous and popular cake shops in Fukuoka, along with Chocolate Shop and French Sweets 16-ku. I bought Jupiter, a pistachio cream cake, and a cream puff, and a macaron-like chocolate dessert. It's rich and delicious with the nutty aroma and texture of hazelnuts and almonds. The pistachio cake was Jupiter, and it made me want to eat more.
