Niyol Coffee is a small cafe located in a residential area in the Nishijin area of Fukuoka City, known for its direct roasting. It also features a book cafe with an impressive collection of books. I first learned about it a long time ago at "1UNIT." in Kokura. After reading reviews from a reviewer who loves cafes, I knew I had to visit. It's located in a corner of a row house. There are terrace seats next to the entrance, and inside, it's a compact space with lots of flowers, creating a soothing atmosphere. There are a few counter seats, tables, and can accommodate up to about 15 people. Looking at the ceiling, it seems that it was renovated from an office with amber-colored beams. Payment is made at the reception, and they bring your order to your seat. The menu includes tax-included coffee starting from 320 yen, tea starting from 600 yen, juice starting from 570 yen, and sweets starting from 450 yen. I ordered a cafe latte for 500 yen. It had a nutty flavor with a medium-dark roast (from El Salvador) and a creamy milk balance. The espresso machine is La Marzocco, and there is a black roasting machine at the back counter, which is a 1-kilo model, ensuring fresh coffee every time. I also bought some beans. 100g of Kenya (dark roast) for 900 yen. It has a fruity taste without much acidity. Despite being a dark roast, it has a mild bitterness and a good balance. The owner, Ochi-san, informed me about an ongoing book event. They have a small library corner curated by the book selector Nishiki, which is a permanent feature at Niyol. Additionally, there is an exhibition in the gallery in the basement. I visited the exhibition, which featured photobooks mainly focused on Western food. It was quite impressive. I was particularly drawn to three books: "Halo" by Rinko Kawauchi, "Cloud Studies" compiling weather observations from the 1880s, and "All Our Suns" capturing images of stars. Nishiki-san guided me through the exhibition. We had a nice conversation about our shared interest in taking photos of the sky. Ochi-san has a gentle demeanor, similar to Nishiki-san's character. It was a good opportunity to spend time looking at books, which I don't usually get to do. I received a booklet about the Niyol library, and it had a pleasant scent. The next event will be coffee art, which I'm also interested in. Despite being a bit far, I might visit again because I like the beans and the atmosphere at Niyol Coffee. Niyol Coffee is open from 11:00 to 18:00, closed on Thursdays. Takeout is available, no parking on-site but paid parking nearby. Check their official page for events.
