Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture - Torahachi Shoten is a high-quality izakaya known for its swimming squid and bonito straw-grilled dishes. Although it is a bit pricey for an izakaya, the quality of the food is worth it. I visited the Shinsaibashi branch for the first time, but I usually go to the Umeda branch. The swimming squid sashimi and avocado I ordered were delicious. The squid is sliced immediately after being taken out of the tank, so it is very fresh! It goes really well with ginger! You can choose to have the legs either tempura or salt-grilled. I recommend the salt-grilled. I didn't try it this time, but the kamameshi (kettle-cooked rice) is also really delicious, so give it a try!

I was recommended this restaurant while talking with a customer about how some squid sashimi can feel heavy and thick in the mouth. At this restaurant, they have fresh Japanese flying squid swimming in a tank, ready to be prepared. The squid sashimi was incredibly crunchy and delicious, prepared both as sogi-zukuri and ito-zukuri. I also tried the salt-grilled and tempura squid tentacles, which were amazing. The bonito tataki was served with salt ponzu and regular ponzu, and I preferred the salt ponzu. Finally, I ended the meal with a delicious tai (sea bream) kamameshi. While the prices are a bit high, the quality of the food was outstanding. I might try the course menu next time. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

The portion size of the live squid dish in the course meal featured on Tabelog was disappointingly small, and when I asked the staff, they explained that it was only 40g per serving. They mentioned that the size in the photo can be increased if you order additional servings.

I went to a private room for a girls' night out. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice. We stayed for quite a while without any rule to kick us out after 2 hours. The staff were friendly enough. They had a wide variety of drinks which was satisfying. The food was a bit pricey and the portion was small for the price. Overall, the food was delicious but it felt a bit overpriced.

We had food and drinks for about an hour as the last order was at 22:45! The bonito tataki was incredibly thick and fresh, making us want more! Everything is recommended! Next time, I will try the squid! Especially for drinks, there is a wide variety of shochu, and the buckwheat shochu is the best!

The swimming squid sashimi was incredibly delicious. I couldn't post the video I took, which is a shame. The squid sashimi was so tasty and beautiful that it kept lingering in my mind. The pork belly, sea grape salad, and especially the red snapper kamameshi were all amazing. I will definitely come back again. Thank you for the feast!

This is a restaurant where you can enjoy freshly prepared squid. The squid on the plate was still moving! We started by eating the squid sashimi as it is, without any seasoning, then tried it with salt, and finally with soy sauce and ginger. It was delicious. We also tried grilled squid tentacles, bonito, turban shell, and other sashimi dishes. Everything went well with beer!

I was invited to celebrate Mother's Day. I specifically requested to try the bonito straw-grilled dish. The photo is just of the squid sashimi. It was fresh! The head was still moving slightly. The sashimi was sweet and crunchy, and the staff took the head to cook it for us. We had it tempura style. The bonito straw-grilled dish was warm and thick, seasoned with salt. It was amazing! It was my first time trying such delicious bonito tataki. There were many other specialty fish dishes, although I didn't take photos. It was a bit pricey, but as a commoner living in Nara, it was a rare and valuable experience. Thank you, my eldest son. It was a feast.

It was our first time, so we asked for the course menu for the whole family. The squid was sweet, the tuna sashimi was thick and delicious! The oysters were juicy, the tempura was crispy, and we were already full after the sea bream rice, but we wanted to try more dishes, so we ordered the chef's choice sashimi platter. The sea bream, tuna, and seared sweet sea bream were all sweet and each bite was delicious. Every dish was very tasty! Thank you for the feast.

This is a shop with its main store in Kochi, specializing in grilled bonito and squid. Unfortunately, when I visited, they were out of squid in the tank, which was disappointing. The shop is run by the nephew of the owner of the supplier (a regular guy), who kindly took me there. The nephew, even though it was his day off, came to greet us, which was much appreciated. The bonito sashimi was indeed delicious, unlike any other I've had before, and the smell of grilled straw filled the shop, creating the illusion of being at the Hirome Market in Kochi. They happened to have bonito cheek sashimi, which I tried and it had a unique crunchy texture with a taste similar to beef tataki. They also offer izakaya dishes like mapo tofu and steak, but the seafood dishes are outstanding. Lastly, they even gave us a kamameshi as a souvenir, which was very thoughtful. The prices are about 2 to 3 times higher than a regular izakaya, so it's not a casual dining spot. However, the private rooms, separate male and female restrooms, and non-smoking policy (smoking is allowed outside with no designated smoking area) make it a relaxed and recommended choice for entertaining or special occasions. The staff are also very accommodating.

Katsuo (bonito) was delicious at this underground restaurant near Shinsaibashi Station. I tried it for dinner for the first time. I started with a highball, which was good with a lemon wedge. I was disappointed that the swimming squid was already sold out, but the bonito made up for it. I regretted not ordering the salt Tataki, but I was satisfied with the meal. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice, but overall, the prices were a bit high. I would like to visit this restaurant again.

The squid was shiny and really delicious! The tentacles and fins were tempura fried. The bonito was also very tasty with salt and garlic. I ordered more bonito to compare two different flavors. Maybe next time I'll just stick to salt. We had sea bream rice and Inaniwa udon for the kids, they loved it and ate it quickly. We also had dried small fish, sea cucumber, oolong tea, and 2 non-alcoholic beers for a little over 20,000 yen. The price was quite high, but it was worth it for the delicious squid and bonito.

I made a reservation for lunch at 12:30 and visited Osaka Metro's Kochi Meguri. I wanted to eat swimming squid sashimi, so I ordered the Swimming Squid Sashimi Set. I chose the 150g option as the smallest size doesn't come in sashimi form. I will enjoy it with raw egg soy sauce and ginger soy sauce. The squid fins and guts can be prepared as salt-grilled or tempura. I requested salt-grilled. I would like to come back when they have swordtip squid, as the type of squid varies depending on the season. I also ordered three pieces of Tempura with Shikoku Aosa Seaweed, which were a special present from Kochi Meguri. Thank you!

The squid was delicious. I paid 4140 yen for 200g (it was expensive...). The bonito tataki was also delicious. It cost 2200 yen (luxurious...). It's okay to indulge a little when you're on a trip, right? This restaurant would definitely rank high if there was a contest. I was very satisfied.

You can find swimming squid from Kyushu and bonito tataki from Kochi at this restaurant. The quality of both meat and fish is high! They also have premium shochu like Moriizou and Maou, making it a great place for entertaining guests.

This is a shop I visit once a month! The food comes out quickly, so you can enjoy various dishes while drinking. The thick-cut bonito sashimi is delicious without any fishy smell. The lower legs and empura parts of swimming squid can be enjoyed grilled with salt, tempura, or sashimi, so you can enjoy a variety of dishes. The garlic sweet potato tempura is delicious and I always order it as a snack with alcohol. The sea cucumber was too hard to chew and was not something I could eat.

This is my second visit ☺️ I ordered swimming squid again because it's not easy to find in Osaka. The bonito tataki and sashimi were the best as always❗️ The shrimp shinjo and beef tendon were also delicious. The nagaimo was crispy and the last dish was tempura squid.

It's a fairly large restaurant with many private rooms. If you remove the partitions of the private rooms, it can turn into a banquet hall that can accommodate up to 80 people. At the entrance, there are live swimming squid and conger eel tanks where you can enjoy sashimi. There are also many other dishes available, including meat dishes, making it a very satisfying dining experience. A restaurant worth visiting.

It's been about 2 years since I last visited, but I suddenly felt like eating bonito tataki. I ordered bonito tataki, swimming squid, and also tried the conger eel since it's the season. The bonito and squid were delicious as always, and the conger eel was a tasty reminder of summer. I also ordered some rock oysters, which surprised me with their size! I finished off the swimming squid with some salt-grilled.
