(2022.07.01) Established over 60 years ago, "Kawataro," which proudly claims to be the originator of the now famous Hakata specialty "live squid sashimi," and the sushi restaurant "Kawasho," representing Hakata, have produced a conveyor belt sushi restaurant called "Kyushu Hakata Daikichi Sushi," which opened next to the Fukuoka PayPay Dome in July 2020, as the spread of the coronavirus pandemic began... Despite the prolonged situation of not being able to operate as expected, the restaurant opened a second branch at "Lalaport Fukuoka," which opened in April this year. I heard about this and decided to visit "BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA." Since this is an entertainment facility, it is likely to be crowded on holidays, but... unlike the bustling food court at the neighboring "MARK IS Fukuoka Momochi," the food hall here is empty, with only three customers in the restaurant with 8 counter seats and 9 table seats for 4 people each. Due to this situation, there are no sushi plates rotating on the conveyor belt, and instead, the sushi ordered using the touch panel is delivered to the table on a special express lane. First, I tried the "Nagasaki Hon Maguro Chutoro Gunkan." It is said to be from Nagasaki, but it may be from the Goto Islands. Although the color is a bit dull, the rich umami flavor can be enjoyed from the red meat attached to the bones. Next, the "Madai with Yuzu Pepper Flavor." The firm texture of the sea bream, thinly sliced, is complemented by the yuzu pepper sauce, creating a refreshing spiciness that pairs well with the mild taste of the sea bream. Following that, the "Hakata Aomon Sanmai (Horse Mackerel, Amberjack, Mackerel)." The blue fish caught in the Genkai Sea is exceptional with its firm texture... the beautiful shine of the skin of the fresh mackerel was stunning. The "Nagasaki Maguro Akamon Sanmai (Otoro, Chutoro, Akami)" was served next. Encouraged by the Chutoro I had first, I enjoyed a luxurious three-piece assortment of melting otoro, rich akami, and chutoro that allows you to taste both. As a palate cleanser, I tried the "Tempura of Natural Sea Bream." I was expecting a plump and fluffy sea bream, but it seemed to be the same type of fish as the sushi topping... a bit disappointing. To finish, I had the "Kawataro's Squid Sanmai (Spear Squid, Bigfin Reef Squid, Sesame Squid Gunkan)." When it comes to Kawataro, it's all about the squid, right? So... I enjoyed the chewy texture of the spear squid, the refined taste of the bigfin reef squid, and the sweetness of the most luxurious sesame squid. When dining alone, it's not possible to enjoy many different types of sushi, but it's nice to have many plates of three-piece assortments like this.
