Visited for the first time with my wife. Started with pickled vegetables? Complimentary dish? Handmade steamed pork buns, pan-fried dumplings, stir-fried bell peppers and beef, medicinal herb braised beef, mapo tofu, sweet and sour pork, boiled dumplings, appetizers, and shumai, among others. The clientele is diverse, with individuals dining alone for dinner, solo drinkers, and lively salarymen enjoying themselves. The portions are modest but all the dishes are really delicious and reasonably priced. Alcohol is also very affordable, with draft beer at 500 yen and highballs at 350 yen. Plus, the drinks are strong. The elderly couple running the place may cause delays in serving, as mentioned by other reviewers, so impatient individuals may want to avoid visiting. The female owner and the head chef are both very kind and friendly. The restaurant is non-smoking.

I visited for a daytime drink. It was my second time here, but I like the spacious interior with large round tables for 8 people. We enjoyed dishes like jellyfish salad, boiled wontons, dumplings, fried chicken, yakisoba, along with draft beer, highball, and lemon sour. The Taiwanese cuisine has a gentle flavor that is comforting and delicious. The wontons were especially tasty.

On the 5th day of the Fukuoka Prefecture Challenge, I visited Asakura City and tried some honey soft serve ice cream. This time, I decided to visit three municipalities instead of two. I drew "Fukuoka City Nishi Ward" and headed to Imajuku Station. It was dinner time when I arrived, so I parked near the station and walked around the area. I found a Taiwanese restaurant called "Taiwanese Cuisine Takarajima" along Prefectural Route 560 near Nishi Ward Office. The restaurant is known for serving authentic Taiwanese cuisine, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the "Taiwanese Tan Tsu Men" and "Lu Rou Fan" to share with my daughters, who ordered "Qing Jiao Niu Rou Si" and "Xia Ren Chao Fan". The Tan Tsu Men had straight thin noodles in a chicken broth with squid balls and shrimp on top. The Lu Rou Fan had flavorful minced pork, and the Qing Jiao Niu Rou Si had a nice taste with plenty of bell peppers. The Xia Ren Chao Fan had finely chopped shrimp that were deliciously firm. It was a pleasant surprise to stumble upon a restaurant and discover such delicious flavors. I look forward to what other tastes I will encounter in the Fukuoka Prefecture Challenge.

I felt like having fried rice so I visited a restaurant. Lately, I've only been having fried rice that's more like yakimeshi at ramen shops, so I was looking at the menu carefully. I noticed something that looked like plate udon. I decided to order the "Treasure Island Stir-fried Noodles" and the "Lettuce Fried Rice". The dishes arrived in about 10 minutes. I took a bite of the fried rice first. It was delicious! I prefer the rice a bit firmer though. Then, I tried a bite of the stir-fried noodles. It was also delicious! The taste was completely different from plate udon, but both dishes were full of ingredients like carrots, cabbage, bean sprouts, pork, liver?, shrimp, shiitake mushrooms, garlic chives, green beans, and more. I'm full now. Thank you for the meal. Now, I need to hurry and do some shopping before the baseball finals.

Located about a 5-minute walk from Meinohama Station, across from the commercial facility "West Coast Meinohama," is a restaurant known for its Taiwanese cuisine. Currently, during the COVID-19 measures, they offer both dine-in and take-out options. The restaurant is run by a Taiwanese male chef and a female staff member who provides service. They serve fresh beer with pickled vegetables as a starter. The menu includes a variety of Chinese dishes along with Taiwanese classics and specialties. They also offer favorites like Champon and plate noodles loved by Fukuoka locals. Their Mapo Tofu is priced at 620 yen, with minced meat chopped finely and slightly spicier than usual. Their handmade pan-fried dumplings are priced at 380 yen, with a nice chewy texture. The Sweet and Sour Pork in black vinegar costs 700 yen and is simply delicious. The Taiwanese-style flavored pig feet are priced at 850 yen, with a strong star anise aroma. The Taiwanese-flavored seasoned egg is priced at 120 yen. The fried chicken thighs are priced at 800 yen and were the favorite this time. They also served Shaoxing wine towards the end of the meal. Lunchtime offers one-coin rice bowls (Mapo Tofu rice bowl, Mapo Eggplant rice bowl, Tomato Egg rice bowl). They can adjust the spiciness from mild to very spicy upon request. The restaurant's name is "Taiwanese Cuisine Takashima," located at 1-7-20 Meinohama Station South, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. They are open from Tuesday to Friday from 11:30 to 14:30 and 18:00 to 23:30, and on weekends from 11:30 to 23:30 (please confirm). They are closed on Mondays (please confirm). It's a 5-minute walk from JR/Meinohama Subway Station. Check out the blog article for more images of the menu and dishes at this Machinaka Chinese restaurant near Meinohama Station♪

On a regular day, on my way home from Niehama Station, I came across a Taiwanese restaurant called "Bao Dao" and decided to give it a try. The restaurant is located about a 3-minute walk from Niehama Station. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, including noodles, rice bowls, and set meals. I ordered the lunch special "Mapo Tofu Rice Bowl" in a large size, which was only one coin. The dish was a good portion size and had a nice balance of minced meat and tofu in a flavorful sauce. The spiciness level was just right for me, but it might be too spicy for some. The egg soup that came with the meal was a nice touch. I left the restaurant satisfied and would love to try their "Dan Dan Noodles" or "Champon" next time.

I went to a Taiwanese restaurant called Bao Dao in Nishi-ku, Fukuoka on March 14, 2020. The restaurant is located just a 3-minute walk from Meinohama Station. The interior of the restaurant, which I was curious about, had spacious seating with tables. I decided to try the Bao Dao fried noodles priced at 820 yen. The dish arrived with two large prawns, but I found the soup to be a bit too much. It was like a cross between plate udon and champon. However, the soup had a rich flavor of chicken broth, which was delicious. The noodles were soft champon noodles, and the dish was filled with squid, clams, pork, shiitake mushrooms, and plenty of vegetables, making it quite hearty. It was a different kind of fried noodles than I had imagined. The restaurant is located at 1-7-20 Meinohama Station South, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

It was a rainy day from the morning. "I feel like eating something spicy." I listened to the voice of my stomach craving for something spicy. Before I knew it, it was already 2 pm and I hadn't eaten anything all morning. I had reserved a rental car for work near Niehama Station, and as I was waiting, it started pouring rain. To escape from the rain, I entered a restaurant called "Taiwanese Cuisine Takashima" next to the rental car shop. The name of the restaurant was charming, and the cute exterior caught my attention. I was surprised to find that the restaurant was quite spacious despite its small appearance. Since it was not crowded, I was seated at a table. I looked at the menu, and there were many noodle dishes, but I was drawn to the laminated paper with "Limited Lunch Bowls" listed. There were three bowl options for only 500 yen each, a real steal! I decided to go with the "Mapo Tofu Bowl" for 500 yen and opted for the "Large" (+100 yen) size. It didn't take long for the dish to arrive. When it was brought to me, my stomach growled involuntarily. The bowl was huge! The large size was indeed large! (laughs) You could choose the level of spiciness from "mild" to "extra spicy" for the same price. I almost asked for "slightly spicy" but since it was my first time at the restaurant, and it was Taiwanese cuisine, I decided to go with "normal". I dug in immediately as I was very hungry, and the taste was amazing! However, the spiciness hit me soon after. It was quite spicy! I was glad I didn't choose a spicier option. The tingling spiciness was probably from Sichuan pepper. Nevertheless, it was fantastic to get such a filling bowl for only 500 yen. As I continued eating and got used to the spiciness, I took a sip of the accompanying soup. Oh, I forgot that drinking something hot after eating spicy food is dangerous. My throat felt like it was on fire. I was sweating and feeling the capsaicin kicking in. It was truly a large portion, and my stomach was full. Thank you for the meal. The exterior of the restaurant was charming, but as I left, it was still pouring rain. Unfortunately, I missed taking a photo of the exterior. By the time I ran to Niehama Station, my shoes were soaking wet. I have a food blog. → NPG/ [Taiwanese Cuisine Takashima] *More photos have been added.

Weekend. I was rejected by my first choice restaurant, so I wandered around and ended up at Takarajima! I ordered Taiwan tantanmen and chingensai rousumen, each for 700 yen, and karaage for 800 yen. Surprisingly, there were quite a few people in the restaurant, including individuals and families. After a while, the karaage arrived first. The lady who seemed to be the owner said that the noodles would be ready soon. The karaage was crispy and delicious, with just the right amount of saltiness. The tantanmen and rousumen also arrived. The noodles were similar to ramen. I chose the thin noodles. The rousumen had a gentle flavor with plenty of vegetables, which was nice. My expectations were low, but the food was surprisingly good. It was probably Taiwanese style. The service was good. I hope they continue to do well. Thank you for the meal.

I moved from the center of Fukuoka city to a budget accommodation along the subway airport line. I visited a nearby Taiwanese restaurant called "Treasure Island." To be honest, I'm not sure of the difference between Taiwanese cuisine and Chinese cuisine, but I think it might have to do with whether the owner is Taiwanese or Chinese. I often hear that Taiwan and China don't get along well... Anyway, at Treasure Island, they offer a good value lunch menu, and I decided to try their signature dish, "Treasure Island Dan Dan Noodles for 750 yen." This was my third bowl of Dan Dan noodles since arriving in Fukuoka. I feel like just eating tonkotsu ramen can be tough for those from outside the prefecture... The Dan Dan noodles served at Treasure Island were presented on a plate-like dish. It looked like a small portion, but I was happy to see minced meat topping for the first time in Fukuoka's Dan Dan noodles. The soup was delicious, made with sesame seeds. The noodles were thin and had a nice texture, although not as thick as Hakata ramen. The Dan Dan noodles were quite tasty, and since the portion was small, I finished it in no time. Well, I'm planning to eat ramen again today, so the amount was just right. Also, it was nice to hear the cook from the kitchen, whose face I couldn't see, say "Thank you very much" loudly as I left. I think they put their heart into cooking.

I decided to skip a leisurely lunch because I was short on time and ordered the beef noodle soup here. The couple running the place may make you wait a bit after ordering, so be prepared for that. The beef noodle soup had a rich and complex flavor, with less spice than what you might find in Taiwan. It was a bit on the salty side, but still delicious. It had a moderate level of spiciness, which might surprise those who don't like spicy food. You can choose between thin noodles and flat noodles, and I chose flat noodles. The noodles had a firm texture that didn't soften even after some time, but the flavor was just average. It might be good for those who prefer noodles with a chewy texture.

Well, it was a day where nothing seemed to go right, like a "bad luck day" sample. It all started when the restaurant was still closed even though it was already past opening hours. After trying a couple of other places unsuccessfully, I finally ended up at "Hojima" which had just opened. Inside, there were a few customers already seated, and I ordered the "A set meal for 630 yen" and the weekday special "Hojima Taiwanese set meal for 880 yen." The food took quite a while to arrive, and I couldn't help but notice the other customers getting impatient. The dishes eventually arrived, but the food was underwhelming with tough beef, cold wontons, and small portions. The only highlight was the pickled vegetables. Overall, it was not a pleasant dining experience, and I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon.

I love Taiwan. The reason I fell in love with Taiwan is because of a shop called Jia Jia in Chikuho City. You can eat a set of rice dishes and noodles for 580 yen. And it's not a half size, but a full portion of both. Not only is it filling, but it's delicious. I'm currently hooked on the drama "The Lonely Gourmet," where the main character goes to Taiwan. Taiwanese cuisine is different from mainland China, with a gentle and soothing taste. I ordered wonton noodles and lu rou fan. First, when I drank the soup, it tasted like Maruchan ramen. I was asked if I wanted thin noodles or flat noodles, and I chose thin noodles, but the noodles were exactly like Maruchan ramen. They were overcooked and stretched. The more I ate, the more it tasted like Maruchan ramen. I don't know if they use Maruchan ramen or if it just happens to taste similar. The wonton was like a bite-sized dumpling, with plenty of filling and large. The lettuce in the wonton noodles, as well as the cucumber in the lu rou fan, looked wilted and not lively. The meat seasoning in the lu rou fan was just delicious. It seems like there is some variation in the menu, so I'll give it a score of 3 for now.

I went to a Taiwanese restaurant called "Taiwan Cuisine Hoshijima @ Niece Beach" where authentic chefs make casual Chinese dishes. I attended a year-end adjustment briefing at Nishi Civic Center. I was planning to have lunch at the city hall cafeteria, but it seems to have closed down, so I reluctantly went to a nearby Chinese restaurant. It was lunchtime, but there were no people... The restaurant's interior cannot be seen from outside, so maybe that's why it's not very inviting to enter? While being attracted to the photos of individual dishes... I ordered the daily lunch set (¥680). On that day, there were two options: Qingjiao Rousi or Mapo Tofu. I'm not good with spicy food, so I chose Qingjiao Rousi. Hmm, there's less meat than I expected, but lots of vegetables. The seasoning is a bit light, maybe more suitable for older people. Overall, it seems like they focus more on spiciness than saltiness, so it was a bit too spicy for me, who doesn't like spicy food.

Today, I am in Minamihama with my wife. Around 1 pm, we decided to try something new and adventurous in terms of dining, so we visited this place called Takarajima. The staff all seemed to be from Taiwan, and my wife was speaking to them in Chinese. I don't speak Chinese myself. As mentioned in the reviews, there was a strangely large sign outside, and the overall appearance of the place was a bit shady. Inside, it was quite dim, even though it was lunchtime and there were no other customers. We could choose any table we wanted. I started to feel a bit uneasy. The tables were covered with vinyl sheets for protection, which seemed to have been used since the opening 10 years ago. The surface was rough, making it look dirty. I couldn't help but mention that it looked dirty. They tried to clean it for us, but the rough texture remained. When we asked for recommendations, they mentioned they had a cold noodle dish available this summer, so we ordered that along with a vegetable stir-fry set lunch. The cold noodles with sesame sauce were decently tasty. As for the stir-fry, it was lightly seasoned, which made me think of cafeteria food. The dishes we chose felt similar to what you would find at a regular diner, so I would like to come back next time for more authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Throughout our meal, we were the only customers there, having the place all to ourselves.
