I went to the Nyonin Kannon Temple to see the cherry blossoms. At the bottom of the stairs leading up to the main hall, there are several restaurants and souvenir shops. One of them offers udon and soba noodles, making it a great place to have a leisurely meal break as the temple grounds are spacious. The tables have partitions for infection prevention. Here are some recommended items:
- Homemade Ohagi (2 pieces): These are large and have a homemade, homey flavor with a solid sweetness and texture in the sweet bean paste.
- Yuzu Jam (250 yen): This homemade jam made from pesticide-free yuzu has a unique flavor that goes well with bread, yogurt, and vanilla ice cream. It's handmade and additive-free, so it's best to eat it soon. Although the cherry blossoms are no longer in full bloom, the autumn leaves are beautiful here, making it a convenient stop when visiting the Nyonin Kannon Temple.

Beer during autumn leaf viewing. Accompanied by a friend, we visited the Yamami Chaya in Shinuguri, which is located up in the mountains. The main attraction was the beautiful autumn leaves, which were indeed stunning. After visiting the main hall, we descended a steep staircase to find the Yamami Chaya, a soba restaurant. Unlike many touristy places that prioritize low cost and convenience, this restaurant had a dedicated area for making and serving fresh soba noodles. We started with a beer and were pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary dish of bamboo shoots. We ordered the zaru soba for 800 yen, which had a lovely rustic flavor and aroma. The tofu was also delicious. Since we could only have one meal at this time, we also tried the kitsune udon, which was decent but nothing special. The soba noodles, complete with soba-yu (soba dipping sauce), were the highlight of the meal. Shinuguri in autumn is truly beautiful.

This is a dining place located at the entrance of Nunoyama Kannon-ji Temple in Sasaguri Town. On this day, my wife and I visited Nunoyama Kannon and had our meal here at the entrance. The restaurant has a relaxed feel, like a rest area at the temple entrance. The opening hours are described as "depending on the mood," which adds to the peaceful atmosphere. I ordered the homemade tofu set for 1200 yen, while my wife ordered the soba set. We were served soba tea first while waiting for the soba to be ready. My homemade tofu set was delicious, with smooth homemade tofu and flavorful, chewy soba noodles. My wife's soba set for 1250 yen included soba, mini tofu, and jyako rice. The restaurant is located at the entrance of Nunoyama Kannon-ji Temple. The soba noodles at Yamami Chaya were delicious with a great aroma and smooth texture. I wish there was a bit more, but overall it was tasty. The homemade tofu had a rich flavor and was also delicious. The bamboo shoot side dish had a nostalgic, grandmotherly taste. Thank you for the meal!
