When it comes to sushi, I usually go to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, but this was my first time at Sushiro because my partner remembered that it was the last day of a fair where you could eat fatty tuna, sea urchin, and amberjack for 100 yen each. We had some errands in Fukuoka city, so we decided to have dinner there, but even in the early evening, it was quite crowded. The nearest store to our current location was full, so we drove a bit further to this Sushiro. The parking lot was spacious and shared with other dining establishments nearby. There were quite a few people waiting, but since we were just two, we were seated in less than 10 minutes.
I initially pressed the wrong button on the ticket machine, setting it for 2 adults and 2 preschoolers, and waited a few minutes before realizing my mistake. When I explained to the staff, they told me to wait with the old ticket number. The counter seats were available, so we were seated promptly. There was hand sanitizer next to the ticket machine, and acrylic dividers between the seats. The sea urchin was delicious, especially considering it was only 100 yen. The nori was crispy too. The amberjack was huge and surprisingly came in two pieces for 100 yen. I regretted not ordering the one piece of amberjack with fatty tuna for 150 yen, which looked much tastier.
I decided not to add more dishes when I was somewhat full, but I couldn't resist trying the limited edition black tea ice cream. The cream was not clotted cream but had a light and slightly sweet taste. The scone was warm and not too dry, making it easy to eat. The ice cream had a strong black tea flavor and was delicious. Eventually, I also had the strawberry parfait, which did not include strawberries on top but had a few small pieces buried inside, making me pleasantly surprised.
Overall, I was quite satisfied with Sushiro, even though I didn't have high expectations. The sushi rice was soft, and the vinegar flavor wasn't overpowering. The fair menu items I tried were great, and even the regular ikura for 100 yen was more than enough. The only downside was that the chawanmushi seemed cold, so I couldn't order it. I hope to try it next time when it's not with ginkgo nuts, as I'm not a fan of them. I couldn't find the regular chawanmushi on the menu, but I'll definitely come back to try it again. The dessert options seem to change frequently, so it would be fun to visit occasionally and enjoy different treats.
