Hamazushi Fukuoka Shime-machi Store @ Shime-machi, Kasuya District, Delicious Chicken Salt Ramen [Limited Edition]
Ramen at a conveyor belt sushi restaurant!? When I first heard about it, I was a bit surprised, but they also offer eel bowls, dessert, coffee, potatoes, and even "vinegared rice curry" recently (laughs). This concept of "conveyor belt sushi x ramen" was introduced by Kura Sushi in 2012, followed by Sushiro in 2014, and now Hamazushi in 2015. Since I had never been to Hamazushi before, I thought it was a good opportunity to try it out.
The chicken flavor seeps in slowly, perfect for sushi accompaniment. As soon as I sat down, I ordered the ramen (laughs). It arrived smoothly during the idle time. The soup has a gentle and satisfying flavor that lingers on the palate. The balance of subtle sweetness and well-seasoned saltiness is spot on. It's quite enjoyable on its own and pairs well with sushi. The medium-thick curly noodles, however, are a bit lacking in my opinion.
The toppings include tender and tasty chicken chashu, half-cooked egg, plenty of seaweed, and watercress. The variety of toppings is quite satisfying. Since I was already there, I also had some sushi. The medium fatty tuna and seared medium fatty tuna were priced at 150 yen per piece, which is quite reasonable. The yellowtail was priced at 150 yen for two pieces, and the bonito tataki with shiso and garlic was priced at 100 yen for two pieces. The quality and price of conveyor belt sushi these days are impressive. The taste and pairing with sushi are excellent. The ramen costs 380 yen (excluding tax), similar to Kura Sushi's 360 yen (excluding tax).
I also want to try Kappa Sushi's ramen next time. Here is a collection of "Conveyor Belt Sushi x Ramen" offerings:
1. 7-Seafood Soy Sauce Ramen @ Kura Sushi, November 2012
2. Tonkotsu Soy Sauce Ramen @ Kura Sushi, November 2013
3. Iberico Tonkotsu Ramen @ Kura Sushi, March 2014
4. Dashi-infused Chicken Broth Soy Sauce Ramen @ Sushiro, April 2014
5. Chicken Soboro with Nishin Miso Ramen @ Sushiro, July 2014
I personally preferred Sushiro's Chicken Broth Soy Sauce ramen the most. The taste, pairing with sushi, and the price of 280 yen (excluding tax) make it a great choice. I haven't tried Sushiro's "Salt" ramen yet, so I'll try it next time. Hamazushi's ramen also shouldn't be underestimated. Maybe Kappa Sushi will join the ramen war next (laughs).
