I saw a reviewer I follow mention that a new branch of Happy Pancake opened in Ikebukuro! Although it seems like it was actually a relocation, I have some business to attend to in Ikebukuro, so I'm planning to visit for a snack (I always come up with various gourmet plans under the guise of having business, and my family is always kind enough to accompany me, for which I am grateful). I have been to the Shinjuku and Ginza branches a few times before. Unfortunately, the Shinjuku branch is no longer there (I personally thought the Shinjuku branch was the best, so I'm disappointed that it's gone). This will be my first visit to the Ikebukuro branch, including before the relocation! You can make reservations through the official website (of course, I'm already registered), but reservations are not available on weekends at the Ikebukuro branch. So, I have no choice but to go without a reservation, but since it's my first visit, it's unknown territory, and I expect to wait quite a bit (they seem to distribute numbered tickets as well). When I arrived in Ikebukuro, I went straight to the restaurant! However, I accidentally took the wrong train or something, and it was already past 3 pm. It had become the best time for a snack! The restaurant is located in the Megane no Paris Miki building on Sunshine Street. I planned to go somewhere else for tea if it didn't work out, and I took the elevator to the 3rd floor. As soon as the doors opened, I was in the restaurant, which was crowded with people. The Ginza branch is the same, but there is no aisle, so the entrance and exit are very crowded. I thought I would have to wait a lot, but when I received my number tag, I overheard a staff member telling the customers in front of me that the wait was about 5 minutes. Really?! With this number of staff members? I thought as I waited, and people were leaving little by little. Before I knew it, a seat became available. It probably wasn't exactly 5 minutes, but maybe around 10 minutes? The fluffy meringue pancakes come in a default set of 3. At first, I hesitated, but they melt in your mouth, so it's okay. There is butter on top of the Happy Pancakes (I had a hard time explaining to another family that it's not ice cream but butter using the menu photo). I didn't order it this time, but you can also add vanilla ice cream for an additional charge (I think it was around 100 yen). I think the shape of the butter is because the butter doesn't melt at the low temperature at which the pancakes are cooked, making it easy to spread, and it has a sweetness on its own, so I wish all pancake places would use this (laughs). The pancakes absorb the maple syrup so quickly that you just keep pouring it on. It's more like sinful pancakes than happy pancakes... A devilish sense of happiness. The chocolate pancakes come with plenty of chocolate sauce and a sea of whipped cream. The pancakes can handle the weight of the toppings. I want to be like that too (laughs). The amount is more than enough, even if you put a lot on. The granola is crispy like nuts, which I like. It adds freshness to the texture. The three of us (although the others are basically useless kids and a husband who doesn't like sweets) finished both pancakes in no time. We were quite full for a while afterwards. The person in front of me at the checkout was trying to use the digital Go To Eat voucher, but there seemed to be equipment trouble, and they were told that it couldn't be used at this branch. They seemed surprised. The website said that Go To Eat vouchers could be used...
