kinako-anko
On September 23, 2019, I drove to Namba and had a cheap "steak set meal" at the privately owned "Kizu Market" for lunch. However, I wasn't completely satisfied with the taste and portion of the meat for the price. I then went to a pub that was open in the afternoon and had a non-alcoholic beer while enjoying grilled and raw "Akashic oysters" in four different ways - grilled, raw with ponzu sauce and salted lemon, and fried. Finally, I felt much better. The market was closed for the holiday, but a large supermarket was open, so I bought ingredients for dinner. I visited "ODA Kizu Market (Namba) store," which is like a store for foodservice professionals, offering a variety of fresh food items for general customers as well. I bought the following items, all excluding tax: Japanese frozen Yamato potatoes for 660 yen, half-raw Izushi soba with mountain yam and dipping sauce for 298 yen each (2), eel roll for 480 yen, and snow crab salad roll for 298 yen. After looking around, I decided on Izushi soba for dinner and also got some rolls for a more satisfying meal. Izushi soba is a local dish from Izushi-cho, Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, served on a hand-salted plate in small portions. I last had Izushi soba at the actual location about 10 years ago. I boiled the half-raw soba with mountain yam in plenty of boiling water for 2 and a half minutes, then rinsed it in cold water and served it on small plates. I prepared condiments such as egg, grated yam, green onion, chopped seaweed, and wasabi, and chilled the provided dipping sauce without diluting it. Enjoy the soba with the rich broth made from bonito and kelp in various ways. First, taste the noodles with the broth, then enjoy it with the condiments for a refreshing flavor. Try it with grated yam and seaweed for a smooth texture. I also added a raw egg and chopped green onions to the warm soba broth for a different delicious experience. The eel roll and snow crab salad roll were surprisingly tasty for their low prices and I finished them all in no time. Bon appétit!
