Daiguma → Tomamu and then, on the 4th day in Hokkaido, we stayed in Furano. This time we stayed here. Since this is a food review, I won't talk much about the hotel itself or the room, but it was amazing. The price is all-inclusive, so there are no separate charges for the mini-bar in the room or the meals. Maybe just for drinks at the restaurant or bar. It's not about being expensive or cheap, but the fact that you don't have to worry about strange things, that's the point. The staff also keep their distance, not intruding unnecessarily. There is also a large communal bath with an outdoor bath, and each room has a spacious unit bath. There are various options, so you can do what you want. I liked this aspect. Well, the most amazing thing was that the room had full glass windows, offering a prime location to enjoy the sunrise over the Tokachi Mountains all to yourself. This hotel has different French restaurants on the lobby floor and the top floor. The top floor's "Leila" seems to require a separate reservation and has a dress code. This time we dined at the lobby floor's "Orika." It was a main dining room with a nice atmosphere where live piano performances were held every 90 minutes. The prefixed style menu offers a mix of Japanese and Western cuisine. The dishes we had for dinner and breakfast were particularly good. For dinner, the appetizers were marinated herring with sour cream sauce, and a salad of lobster and prosciutto with couscous. The sour cream sauce was exquisite, complementing the rich herring and the subtly flavored lobster well. The couscous served on the side was also excellent. For the meat dish at dinner, we had a steak of Biei beef loin with red wine sauce. The marbling on the meat was just amazing. Among the three beef steaks we had during our Hokkaido trip, this one suited my taste the best. For breakfast, the cabbage and daikon consommé and plain omelet were both basic but perfectly executed dishes. It's comforting to know that they are done well. I couldn't take photos, but they also brought not just two types of bread but 6-7 varieties of baguettes to choose from. This was also delicious. The veteran waiter who served our table was very polite and attentive, occasionally checking in when we seemed idle. This kind of service is truly top-notch. The portions were quite generous, and I was glad I skipped lunch. Unfortunately, we had to leave early the next morning, so we couldn't stay longer. I would like to come back and stay longer next time. Thank you for the wonderful meal and service. I will visit again. (Dinner on 9/15 and Breakfast on 9/16, 2014)
