Cheese Manju... Honestly, I didn't know about it. It is a soul food of Miyazaki and also a popular souvenir. Hmm, Miyazaki is quite far away. I heard that a shop selling Cheese Manju has opened in Itoshima, so I went there right away. It's located on the premises of "Sobadokoro Yamazaki" next to the entrance. The shop is cute and has a stylish atmosphere, renovated from an old folk house. The "Cheese Manju" comes in 4 varieties, ranging from 150 yen to 200 yen. The chocolate and rum raisin flavors were already sold out, so I bought the remaining two flavors, "Plain" (150 yen) and "Setouchi Lemon" (200 yen). I was told that the "Plain" was freshly baked, so I had one in the car. It comes in a cute package, small but with a good weight. When I opened it, I saw a round shape. Oh, is this it? I took a bite, and it was completely different from what I expected. The skin was more like a cookie. But it was delicious. The cheese is cream cheese! I had no prior knowledge, so it was a pleasant surprise. Very tasty. This is delicious. It would go well with coffee. As a big fan of cream cheese who would eat it by the bucket, this snack is right up my alley! The elegant taste is very nice! Reading the description again, it says, "Cream cheese is tightly enclosed in a crispy cookie dough and baked..." Hmm, I see. "Setouchi Lemon" was enjoyed at home later. This one has a lemon-flavored chocolate coating on the plain base. Also very elegant and delicious! However, when I pointed out to my wife, "Where is the manju in this?" she coolly replied, "Is Miyazaki's Cheese Manju not like this?" Well, is that so... Hm! I suddenly feel like going to Miyazaki to verify it! (laughs) But I'm delighted to have a delicious new shop nearby. On the day I visited, a very diligent elementary school girl, perhaps helping out her family, was working for the first time? Her mother was very kind and it was heartwarming to see. I hope to have a chat with the shop owner next time. I will have a rematch for the rum raisin and chocolate that I couldn't buy this time. They must be delicious without a doubt. ps. Since these products require refrigeration, a cooler bag is essential in the upcoming season!
