Today's lunch is my first visit to Issen-tei in Arai, Iizuka City. It is located along National Route 201, right in front of Home Plaza Nafco, so it is relatively easy to find. The exterior has a traditional Japanese style. It seems like they have been rooted in this area for a long time and are working hard. The interior is quite spacious with counter seats, table seats, and a raised seating area. It seems to be run by a couple, as the proprietress kindly guided me to a warmer table seat saying, "This side has a stove and is warmer." There were many set meals to choose from, but I ordered the Chuka-don set meal (ramen + Chuka-don for 790 yen). The food arrived in about 3 minutes, so let's dig in. The soup is white with a slight layer of oil on top. It might be lard? It has a mild pork bone flavor with a slight sweetness. It is quite light in taste. There is no distinct pork bone odor. The saltiness of the seasoning is just right. The noodles are square-shaped with a slightly thick texture, which is rare in the Chikugo area. The noodles are on the softer side but have a chewy texture and a good throat feel. The toppings include 2 slices of chashu, bean sprouts, chopped green onions, half a boiled egg, and wood ear mushrooms, keeping it simple. The Chuka-don is a full-size portion, not a half-size as I expected. It comes with cabbage, onions, green onions, carrots, pork, and eggs, without any seafood. The seasoning of the sauce is perfect. However, some of the vegetables seem overcooked and burnt in places. The portion size was amazing. I was so full that I couldn't move. The ramen is a gentle option for the stomach, making it perfect for a satisfying meal after drinking. And the cost performance is excellent. A bowl of ramen for 430 yen is incredible in this day and age. With a variety of set meals and menu options, I will definitely become a regular customer and try various dishes. Thank you for the meal.
