KANIYAN
Yanagimachi, Moji-ku, Kitakyushu City. A Chinese restaurant located at the intersection of Yanagimachi 3-chome. In my memory, there should be four Asahi Chinese restaurants in Katano, Tamachi, Edamitsu, and Moji. However, the website now shows only three locations, which is mysterious. The lunch menu was handwritten and displayed, offering dishes like Mapo Tofu, Ebi Mayo, and Taiwanese-style sweet and sour pork. They also have knife-cut noodles and cold noodles, as well as various Chinese dishes available as individual items. If you order a menu item priced at 700 yen or more, you can also enjoy a lunch buffet (dishes placed on the counter). This time, I ordered the Sichuan-style cold tantan noodles (880 yen), which also included the lunch buffet. The Sichuan-style cold tantan noodles consisted of Chinese noodles topped with cucumber, tomato, kaiware radish, minced meat, boiled eggs, and shredded omelet, with a spicy soy-based sauce. It was delicious, although it lacked the typical tantan flavor. The lunch buffet included items like fried chicken, meatballs, zasai pickles, kimchi, bean sprout salad, cabbage salad, yakisoba, fried rice, and soup, all available for unlimited servings. The warm dishes were kept warm, and the cold dishes were kept cold, allowing patrons to enjoy them as intended. In recent years, lunch buffets have become popular at Chinese restaurants. When I first encountered one (at a different restaurant), I was puzzled as to why they were offered alongside set meals and rice dishes. However, at this restaurant, only individual dishes and noodle dishes were served, while customers could help themselves to rice, soup, side dishes, and dessert. This way, patrons can adjust the portion size to their liking, enjoy their favorite dishes, and sample a wide variety of items at an affordable price. The benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Thank you for the meal.
