Nagasaki Castella main store with bat logo, Fukusaya. I visited after drinking and bought two Fukusaya Cubes for takeout, each containing two slices for 297 yen. When it comes to castella, it's Fukusaya. It has a moist and rich flavor. Delicious.

Two days after my initial post. Postscript: The second day was even more delicious than the first day. Why is that? It was incredibly delicious. Therefore, I think the review below may not convey the deliciousness very well. However, it was definitely worth the price of 2,914 yen! I will revise my rating upwards. I bought this at Hakata Hankyu the day after the 2015 October concert (which unfortunately got canceled) for Ayumi Hamasaki fan club members. I've always considered Fukusaya as the best castella. I used to buy it near the entrance of Daimaru in the past. It's the original castella from Nagasaki! This time, I went to buy the cube version, but when I was looking at the showcase, they told me, "This is usually only available for pre-order." So, why is it here? I thought, but it doesn't give me a reason to buy it just because it's limited to pre-orders. So, I asked, "What's different about it?" and they said it has more sugar and eggs and less flour compared to regular castella. I wondered what that meant, but the deciding factor was the price. It was a whopping 2,914 yen for a product that didn't have two pieces or double the width of a regular one. That high price really raised my expectations! It's more cost-effective to eat something expensive and delicious than something cheap and ordinary! I'm a shallow brand-oriented person who believes that expensive things are always good. So, I opened the Gomaki Castella! When I opened the red wrapping paper that matched the bag, it looked like a paulownia box with a wrapping paper and another layer of packaging. Then, I opened it again, and there was a bag. And then, the familiar white box of castella. Finally, the Gomaki Castella appeared (^○^) It was like a lump of luxury sweets!! Amazing! It had a cut line so you didn't need a knife! I took a bite (・o・) It was completely different from any castella I had ever eaten before. Well, saying it was completely different might be an exaggeration <(_ _)> Even though it was supposed to have less flour, I could feel the powder, and it was incredibly soft and chewy. It was yellow because it had a lot of eggs. Despite having a lot of sugar, it wasn't overly sweet at all! According to the description inside the product, "The baking process takes a long time. The balance of the upper and lower heat requires advanced skill, and only a few skilled artisans can achieve it." Surely, it's food for the elite. It was a very elegant and delicious treat.

It was a souvenir from a company's customer, and when I received it, it was heavy and I thought it might be a colorful small box when I opened it. But it turned out to be Fukusaya's castella cake! The boxes come in different colors, so I thought they might have different flavors, but they were all plain inside (laughs). The castella cake is cut into two pieces and it's convenient because you don't have to cut it yourself. Plus, it comes with disposable forks so you don't get your hands dirty and there's no washing up to do. It's great that companies are thinking about these things!

Sometimes you just crave for "Castella", a simple yet elegant taste. So, I bought one at Hakata Hankyu. I purchased the "Castella 06" for 1050 yen. Opening the Western-style wrapping, I found a yellow box, then a washi paper bag, and another box... Finally, the Castella was revealed. It was pre-cut into 10 slices, each about 2.5cm. The contrast between the brown crust and golden interior was beautiful, and the rough texture on the back was charming. Now, time to taste the Castella! The surface was moist, the texture dense and rich with an eggy aroma. It was more solid than fluffy, with a crunchy texture from the roughness. The taste was not too sweet, with a hint of burnt flavor enhancing the simple ingredients of eggs and sugar. The skillful execution made it delicious! It pairs well with hot tea, a comforting and satisfying taste that appeals to all ages. Even a single slice is fulfilling, making it great value for money. Castella from Fukusaya is truly delicious, and it's a joy to be able to enjoy Nagasaki's famous confectionery nationwide.

Received a souvenir from my husband. It's a classic castella from Nagasaki, known for its crunchy texture from the zaramé sugar mixed into the bottom layer. The ingredients used are simple, making it a delightful gift to give or receive. The Fukusaya Cube costs 270 yen (250 yen excluding tax) for 55g. Skilled artisans handcraft each piece of traditional castella, packaged in a cute box for easy enjoyment anytime, anywhere. Enjoy the changing packaging designs based on regions and seasons. Ingredients include domestic chicken eggs, sugar, flour, and corn syrup.

I met a friend who came to Fukuoka on a business trip from Tokyo at Hakata Station, so I went to Hankyu Department Store in Hakata to look for souvenirs. I was unsure about alcohol being too heavy and perishables not being ideal, so after much thought, I ended up at Fukusaya. I had been curious about their colorful cube-shaped castella cakes since they were first released. This time, I decided to give them as a gift. When I met my friend and exchanged greetings, I was surprised to see that they had brought the exact same thing (different quantity). It was a pleasant surprise for me as I love castella cakes. The colorful cube castellas all had the same flavor. They come with a simple fork and are easy to carry around, making them easy to share with others. Thank you for the meal.
