Fukuoka City Chuo-ku Daimyo 2-3-9-1 Area - 3 minutes walk from Akasaka Station on the subway! Located on the left hand side of Taisho Street towards Kego from Akasaka. Here, the "Nori Bento Specialty Store" based in Tokyo/Yasukuni Street opened "Nori Bento Ichinoya Fukuoka Akasaka" in December 2022! Currently, there are 18 stores nationwide! Will the "Nori Bento" make it to the people of Fukuoka? We went to investigate. The exterior is on the 1st floor of a mixed-use building! A large white noren stands out against the Japanese-style facade! The interior is also designed in a Japanese modern style! Since it is take-out only, I looked at the menu to decide what to order and was surprised by the price range - 1,080 yen for "Nori Bento," 1,800 yen for "Winter Flavor Nori Bento," and 1,800 yen for "Gold Nori Bento." The gap between how amazing the "Nori Bento" is and the cheap image of bento boxes is unreal! Is it really popular in Tokyo? I can't help but doubt it... Did they misread the market in Fukuoka? It seems to far exceed the tolerance range that Fukuoka residents would accept. Comparing the nearby price range, if you are willing to pay 1,800 yen, you can have "Luxurious Seafood Bowl," "Premium Tonkatsu," "Sweet Shrimp Bowl," "Mosaic Sushi," "Beef Sukiyaki Set," "Eel and Egg Rice Bowl," "Mentaiko Rice Bowl," etc., so I feel like there is no reason to choose the "Nori Bento." There is no sample of the bento box menu, and the part-time staff who explained the menu seemed to struggle to convey this value. Perhaps it's because of a sales target, they could only recommend "Tartar Sauce / 50 yen." I purchased the basic "Nori Bento"! First, when I opened it, there was no overwhelming excitement as I had imagined! First, I tried the "white fish fry" on top of the rice with seaweed, but it was just a normal "white fish fry" despite the efforts put into the cooking method! I also tried the "chikuwa tempura" and "grilled chicken with miso," but... If it had been freshly made, it might have been a bit more delicious, but as it was a pre-made cold bento, there was nothing that exceeded the normal bento box side dishes! As for the rice, there was only a small amount of thin rice at the bottom, making me wonder, "Is there a mistake?" For men, it's not satisfying, so it's at a level where you might want to buy an onigiri from a convenience store to add to it. It was a "Nori Bento" that perfectly fits the Fukuoka residents' mentality of "I'll just eat it once." If you're curious, try the expensive Nori Bento - thank you for the meal. Enjoy Gourmet Life☆
