Private room for all seats, Hakata motsunabe Ichiri @ Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, about a 6-minute walk from Hakata Station on the JR and Shinkansen lines. It's the second day of a business trip to Hakata. After finishing work safely, the after-party is here at Ichiri, a Hakata motsunabe restaurant near the Kyushu Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. It's located along the same row as the "tori sakaba" we visited yesterday. It seems to be a popular spot because it's located on the route between the government office and Hakata Station. Government officials love drinking parties, don't they... (laughs) From the entrance, a long narrow corridor leads to the back, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a Kyoto alley. We were guided to a private room that felt like a hidden room in a ninja house. I thought this was a beautiful restaurant, but it turns out it just opened in October 2019. The course we reserved was the "Kyushu specialty squid sashimi x sesame mackerel x wagyu Hakata motsunabe" 2-hour all-you-can-drink course with 8 dishes for 6000 yen, discounted to 5000 yen. It included various dishes such as ankimo ponzu, squid sashimi, sesame mackerel, duck with black pepper, squid tempura, pork belly simmered and grilled, wagyu motsunabe, champon noodles, yuzu sherbet. When I requested to eat the authentic motsunabe, they had already reserved the course for us. By booking through Tabelog, we got a 1000 yen discount as part of the opening promotion. It's not just people from Kansai who are good at spotting deals... (laughs) First, let's start with the "water of life." Cheers! I enjoyed dishes like ankimo ponzu, squid sashimi, sesame mackerel, duck with black pepper, squid tempura, pork belly simmered and grilled, wagyu motsunabe, champon noodles, and yuzu sherbet. The motsunabe was exactly what I was hoping for, with collagen-rich and tender motsu that melted in the mouth. The meal ended with a refreshing champon noodle and yuzu sherbet.
