Even on days when I don't plan to go, I find myself occasionally checking this Twitter account. Every day around 11 o'clock, they list meat, fish menus, and three side dishes. What catches my attention is that these three side dishes are different every single day. I've never seen a restaurant change side dishes so frequently. One day, the menu was "Pork loin teriyaki," "Deep-fried horse mackerel," with side dishes like "Simmered taro and thin fried tofu," "Wakame, bamboo shoots, and tomato salad," "Cauliflower curry salad." On another day, it was "Beef belly tomato stew," "Miso-grilled yellowtail," with side dishes like "Simmered daikon and koya tofu," "Pumpkin and edamame salad," "Spicy stir-fried shredded konjac, leek, and enoki mushrooms." I admire how they come up with new dishes every day at such a low price ($5.50). The owner must be amazing to not compromise on quality. However, on this particular day, I was drawn to the main dish "Chicken Nanban" and decided to go. I arrived before noon and managed to get a seat with one spot left. Shortly after, the place was fully packed. Fortunately, the timing was right, and I didn't have to wait long to be served. The menu for the day included "Chicken Nanban," "Simmered mackerel," and side dishes like "Lotus root and thick fried tofu with bonito flakes," "Spinach and bean sprout with sesame dressing," "Soybean and bamboo shoot mustard salad." The Chicken Nanban, made with chicken thigh, was crispy and generously coated with Nanban vinegar made with black vinegar, topped with a lot of egg and mayonnaise. The side dishes were more filling than they appeared, with the salad and Chicken Nanban both being quite heavy on mayonnaise. I wondered if I could finish it all, but I did. However, the elderly lady sitting next to me was eating both main dishes (Chicken Nanban and simmered mackerel). How is that possible? The Chicken Nanban was juicy and delicious. The miso soup was piping hot as always. I think I'll go back when I feel like trying different things again. Thank you for the meal!
