Menya Joroku @ Namba / Chuka soba (large with extra meat and seasoned egg) I had a busy day with lots to do from the morning, so I ended up having a convenience store cooking bread and coffee for lunch. I really wanted to take my time and eat at a nice restaurant, but oh well. By late afternoon, I was starting to feel hungry and almost nauseous from not eating enough. So, I decided to have dinner. I walked to Namba and looked for a restaurant. The popular place in the back of Namba had a long line outside, so I decided to try Joroku instead. There was a bit of a wait inside, but not too bad. After some deliberation, I decided to go with the Chuka soba at Joroku. I ordered the large Chuka soba with extra meat and a half-boiled seasoned egg. The soup was a light chicken broth with a sharp soy sauce flavor, not too salty, filled with the richness and acidity of soy sauce and the base soup. It was easier to eat compared to the original style. The black pepper sprinkled on top added a nice touch to the overall flavor. The homemade medium-thick noodles were very smooth and had a chewy texture, blending well with the soup. Joroku's homemade noodles are always delicious. The chashu consisted of thin slices and slightly thicker cuts, both bursting with flavor as you chew. The extra meat in the Chuka soba is highly recommended. The seasoned egg had a nice, concentrated flavor. As I finished my meal, the waiting area inside the restaurant was full. It was a pleasure to enjoy Joroku's Chuka soba after a long time.

Menya Joroku Namba Store Kishu Hiyashi with Shime Gohan (rice) - ¥1,100 I tried the summer specialty of Menya Joroku, the exclusive menu item "Kishu Hiyashi". The refreshing soup with a plum aroma is made with chicken broth base and a salt sauce mixed with pickled plum. Even the dashi ice has been carefully prepared. I was able to go on a business trip to Namba, so I visited a famous ramen shop. It's a unique ramen shop located in the back alley with an unusual setup. I wonder if there's a reason they make customers wait inside instead of outside. With fewer seats for customers, it seems like the turnover rate might be lower. The interior is decorated with autographs, idols, and posters from Takatsu Clinic, giving it a distinctive atmosphere. Some people were ordering off-menu items, which caught my interest, but I decided to start with the regular soy sauce ramen, seasoned egg, and Haya Sushi. I thought it might be salty based on the appearance, but the soy sauce broth was actually mild and easy to eat. It's understandable why many people order the large size since it's so light and easy to enjoy.

Note: In this type of ramen, the soup is often salty, but this one has a gentle and not overwhelming flavor. The noodles have a strong wheat aroma and the thickness is just right. The chashu topping is not too heavy, and by adding green onions midway, you can reset and enjoy it again.

Today's lunch was in Namba, Osaka. I had work in Minami in the morning after a long time. I finished work a bit early around 2 PM, so I decided to have a late lunch. There are many restaurants I want to go to, but today I feel like having a ramen from the Takaida style. One of my followers had it and I became curious about what Takaida style is like. I searched for a restaurant nearby my workplace and found Joroku, which had good reviews. The lunch service was until 3 PM, so I hurried to the restaurant. When I arrived around 2:30 PM, there were already 8 people waiting outside. And inside the restaurant, there were more than 10 people waiting as well. After waiting for 30 minutes, the shutter was halfway down. Finally, I was seated at the counter. I ordered a large serving of Chuka Soba and Haya Sushi. While waiting for my order, I watched the kitchen closely. The Haya Sushi was served first. It was my first time having Haya Sushi. The rolled leaf was unwrapped to reveal the mackerel sushi, which was smaller than I expected. I took a bite. The fish and rice were well-seasoned and quite delicious, but one piece was not enough for me (laughs). The Chuka Soba was served next. Wow, it's really black. I remembered the soba I had in Tokyo and had a bad feeling. First, I tried the soup... Mmm, what is this? Even though it's so dark, it's not at all soy sauce-flavored! In fact, it's sweet!! It turns out they use a sweet tamari soy sauce from Wakayama as a seasoning. The rich soy sauce combines perfectly with the chicken-based broth. The medium-thick straight noodles also have the soy sauce color soaked in. Slurp. Haha, this is good. The chewy noodles have a smooth texture and a good mouthfeel. I enjoyed the aroma of the green onions while slurping. The thinly sliced chashu is also to my liking. The well-seasoned menma is a great supporting role. This is a delicious ramen. I was quite hungry, but I couldn't stop eating. I quickly finished the large serving and even drank all the soup. I usually like salt ramen, but I would eat this ramen over and over again. I'll have to find another opportunity to come back and try adding chashu and flavored egg next time. Thank you for the meal.

I chose the regular size Chuka soba with extra meat. Despite its black appearance, the soup was delicate and not salty at all. It had a nostalgic taste, but delicious soy sauce flavor. The noodles were chewy and medium thick, very tasty! The char siu had a nice firm texture, with the edges being soft, which I liked. I wanted to finish every drop of the delicious soup. It was so good, I've been lucky with my food choices lately!

Even the soup split with clear soup is incredibly delicious. From the elegant soup to the homemade noodles and toppings, it is a flawless and wonderful dish! Perfect!

This time, I visited the famous restaurant Jo-Roku in Ura Namba. Their summer series third installment, "Zaru Chuka," was finally available, so I went to try it out. This menu, like the others in the summer series, is limited to community participants in Ura. You can choose the noodle amount in increments of 100g, up to a maximum of 500g, and I went with the usual 500g. The noodles, cooked to perfection, had a wonderful aroma and were complemented well by the broth. It was delicious as always. I devoured it quickly and was left feeling satisfied. It was so tasty! On my way back from a solo trip to Osaka, I decided to dine at a restaurant where the top reviewer, Mairebi, had consistently given a 5.0 rating. The interior of the restaurant had a nice old-fashioned feel to it. I ordered the Chuka soba (Chinese noodles) and a bowl of rice with pork and mayonnaise. The Chuka soba arrived after a short wait, and it had a very traditional look to it. When I slurped the noodles, I found them to be slightly thick and soft, but they had a good flavor to them. The broth had a slight animal smell to it, but it added a nice richness to the soy sauce flavor. The soy sauce flavor wasn't too overpowering based on the color, so I think most people would enjoy it. The bowl was filled with plenty of vegetables and pork, satisfying my hunger at a reasonable price. This ramen had a contradictory yet nostalgic taste, reminding me of how ramen used to be. I usually don't have a good experience with popular ramen shops, but I would definitely want to visit this place again. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived at around 2:30 PM on Saturday without having to wait in line. I couldn't decide what to eat before heading back to Tokyo, so I chose ramen. I ordered a regular bowl of ramen with extra meat, and it arrived promptly. The extra meat was a good choice, it was flavorful and satisfying, and the green onions on top added a nice touch. I quickly finished the bowl as it was so delicious. I might prefer the noodles to be a bit firmer.

I arrived around 5:50 PM on Saturday and got the pole position. There were chairs inside the restaurant to wait. I ordered extra chashu and a regular flavored egg. I chose the noodles and soup flavor, but personally, the chashu was just okay for me. It was my first time trying Hayazushi, and it was delicious. I want to try the chashu rice bowl next time.

I visited "Menya Joroku Namba Store". It is located about a 7-8 minute walk from Namba Station on the Osaka Metro. This time, I had the "Chukasoba (regular)" and "Early Sushi". The soup was a dark color, similar to Takaida style, but not too soy sauce-heavy and had a refreshing aftertaste. The straight, medium-thin noodles were delicious and coated well with the soup. The chashu had a good flavor and was tasty. The large pieces of chopped green onions also paired well with the soup. The Early Sushi was delicious, with mackerel and vinegared rice complementing each other well, and the size was just right. It was a tasty meal. Thank you for the meal!

On the first Sunday of September 3rd, the morning noodle activity is... Today is "Good Morning Ramen Day," so we visited Menya Joroku Namba in Namba Chuo-ku for the 121st edition of "Good Morning Ramen," held every first Sunday of the month from 7:00 to 10:00 am. We took the Osaka Metro and arrived at the restaurant with a bit of a wait outside. The special menu for today was the Takaida-style "Chuka Soba" for 700 yen, topped with a seasoned egg for an additional 100 yen. The soup had a lighter color than usual, made with kombu dashi and Kikkoman dark soy sauce, with a spoonful of MSG added for extra umami. The noodles were cooked for only 2 minutes and 30 seconds, resulting in a firm texture. The meal was satisfying, and the addition of the GS Ramen Kosho seasoning added a spicy kick to the broth. Overall, it was a delicious experience, although it left us quite thirsty afterwards. We plan to try making this at home next time!

I went to a popular ramen shop in the back streets of Namba, Osaka for dinner. After having a light meal, I decided to have a small size of their Chuka Soba ramen as a finishing touch. The shop was located in a narrow alley, with a waiting area inside the left sliding door. There were wooden chairs arranged evenly, like a waiting area for a vaccine shot, haha. The walls were covered with autographed cards from customers, showing how popular the shop is. Finally, it was my turn and I sat at the counter with only 8 seats available. They offered salt ramen and niboshi ramen, but the recommended dish was the Chuka Soba, which is a local specialty in Osaka. The owner used to work at the Kansai Electric Power Company's Takahama Nuclear Power Plant. While waiting, I read the newspaper clippings displayed there. The Chuka Soba arrived and it looked dark and rich, but the soup had a strong and delicious flavor with a good aroma. It was made with chicken bones, dark soy sauce, and thickly sliced green onions. I was satisfied with the meal. I later found out that female solo customers were given a free flavored egg, but I was with a friend so I didn't get one. It's a female-friendly shop. A ramen shop located in a back alley near Namba Grand Kagetsu. The old-fashioned storefront exudes a sense of history. There is a spacious waiting area inside, but no one is lining up. I think it would be better to place tables here instead of making such a large waiting space. I ordered a small ramen. The wait time was quite long. It felt like they intentionally wanted to create a line. In the end, I waited for over 10 minutes from ordering. As for the taste, it was average. While Osaka Black has become popular, the seafood-based soup with subdued saltiness was decent but lacked distinctiveness. The soy sauce flavor didn't seem particularly high-quality, but the noodles were smooth and nice. The chashu was thin and disappointing. At 700 yen, it felt rather expensive. The customer base also seemed to consist of fewer young people, so perhaps the shop is supported by long-time fans.

I secured a valuable time to have lunch in Namba. When I looked up what to eat, I found Menya Joroku Namba branch. The thick soup clings to the noodles, making it so delicious. It really warms you up when you're tired. I went after 2 PM so I didn't have to wait in line, which was great.
