【First Visit: February 2014】Ah, brings back memories! I went to Minamishuken in Izumi City, but it was completely closed, so I sadly headed back. On the way, I discovered this place! The name of the restaurant is the same, so maybe it's a branch? I'll recover here.
- Inside the restaurant & Menu: The style is with a food cart inside the warehouse. There are 4 tables, with the food cart serving as the counter seats. Of course, I sat right in front of the chef making the ramen. It felt a bit challenging, but being able to watch the ramen being made right in front of you is the best seat, isn't it? The menu is displayed on a blackboard at the top. I chose the default ramen.
- Ramen for 550 yen:
- Soup: Light soy sauce base
- Noodles: Slightly thin straight noodles
- Toppings: Chashu, fish cake, bean sprouts
The atmosphere of the food cart ramen was excellent, just as intended. It was amazing to be able to witness the process of making ramen right in front of my eyes.
- Presentation: The ramen was served, with a soup that was almost transparent in color. Hmm... is it salt-based? But it's actually soy sauce-based. You can tell because when you eat it, the soup has a solid flavor. The chef said they use both pork and beef in the soup. The noodles are homemade straight noodles, slightly thin and yellowish. They don't have a chewy texture, but they match perfectly with the soup. The chashu is the old-fashioned handmade type, which I personally really like. The bean sprouts don't get in the way of the noodles but rather complement them. It was delicious until the last bite.
- Overall impression: I asked the chef if there used to be a place in front of the Kishiwada Velodrome in the past, and he confirmed it! The chef used to be an apprentice to the owner of the old Minamishuken. The owner now only handles the preparation, while the chef aspires to preserve and expand this taste. I also asked about the origin of Minamishuken. During the war, the owner went to China and learned how to make this ramen in a region called Minamishu. The name of that region became the restaurant name. It was a nostalgic encounter, and I was able to savor it slowly. Cheers to a comforting taste!

Ramen (animal-based + salt soy sauce 550 yen) ★★★☆ The soup is a salt soy sauce flavor based on chicken and pork bones. The noodles are medium-thin straight noodles. The ingredients include sliced pork belly chashu, green onions, bean sprouts, fish cake, and boiled egg. This shop is a branch of "Nanshuken" with its main store in Kishiwada City, and it opened on July 7th near Nankai Tsuruhara Station. The soup is made from chicken bones and pork bones, with a moderate amount of oil and a sharp taste from the sauce, resulting in a light finish. The thick slices of chashu are delicious with just the right amount of salt. The interior of the shop has a food stall set up, giving it a nostalgic night market atmosphere. Menu items include Ramen: 550 yen, Miso Ramen: 600 yen, Salt Ramen: 600 yen, Chashu Noodles: 650 yen, Double Chashu Noodles: 1000 yen, Boiled Egg: +50 yen.

Highway 26, Tsuruhara area, a new shop has opened. From the name of the shop, I imagined Chinese-style ramen, but it seems to be a chain store. The shop was made by remodeling a garage, and the door looks a bit different. Three of us entered, and I was the last one, but I didn't hear a "Welcome!" Maybe they did say it, but it wasn't a cheerful voice that I could hear. At this point, my impression wasn't very good. I ordered the Chashu ramen. I was surprised to see that the soup was white. "Huh? Salt ramen??" When I tasted it, it wasn't salt, but a taste I've had somewhere before. Yes, it was very similar to the ramen you can find at the food stalls in front of Izumisano Station sometimes. The use of boiled eggs was also similar. On the positive side, it's a ramen that is suitable for eating after drinking. Also, considering the recent increase in ramen prices, it is relatively cheap. However, it may not be satisfying for a hearty dinner. The most disappointing part was the initial customer service. The lack of greeting as mentioned earlier, but also standing next to me and starting a conversation with another customer while I was eating, was not very impressive. Improvement is needed.
