I have been to Hakata several times but had never been to a food stall until now. There were so many stalls that I didn't know where to go. I had the impression that stalls were lined up in Nakasu or Nagahama when I thought of food stalls in Hakata. We were discussing where to go in Tenjin, but when I looked it up, I thought, "Wait, isn't Tenjin the area with the most stalls?" However, they seemed to be scattered around, so we were really lost on where to go. The one thing we both agreed on was that we wanted to try small, thin-skinned gyoza, not the meat-filled kind. So, we decided to walk around and search for a stall. After about 10 minutes of walking and glancing at a few places, we finally found a stall that seemed promising. However, there was only one seat available... When we asked the staff, they kindly rearranged the seats so we could sit together. This was a true food stall experience! We ordered a highball, which turned out to be strong and made me cough. Then, we tried to order gyoza, and the lady making them asked, "Just one order of gyoza for both of you?" Of course, we couldn't visit a stall with "gyoza" written on the curtain and not order gyoza. She also suggested trying a mixed skewer set, which included 6 skewers: gizzard, skin, liver, pork belly, tsukune, and wiener. We were considering it when she said, "If you don't like liver, I can replace it with 2 gizzard skewers." How thoughtful! We were a bit embarrassed to admit we didn't like liver, but her suggestion was really helpful. And the gizzard skewers were delicious! Soon, the gyoza arrived - small, round gyoza, just what we wanted! We both nodded in approval as we savored the delicious gyoza. Lastly, we ordered tonkotsu ramen. We thought we should have ordered one bowl each, but we were running out of time before our flight. We felt a bit guilty, but the staff kindly brought out a sharing plate for us. The tonkotsu ramen was also incredibly tasty. It was my first time eating at a food stall, and I was shocked by the high quality of the food. It was hot... I was sweating all over, but I couldn't stop drinking the soup. And when we received the bill... it was so cheap! I was amazed by the food stall experience. I wish we had more time to try a plate of gyoza each. As we chatted about this, we headed to the airport. I want to try more food stalls in the future, but if asked, I would definitely recommend this food stall.

The dumplings are recommended. The pork bone ramen as a finishing touch is also delicious.

I decided on ramen at the food stall. I entered "Aifu" located near the intersection. I was welcomed by the friendly two older ladies. First, we toasted with sake. I couldn't resist ordering some gyoza. The small gyoza was perfect for my stomach and tasted great. The chashu ramen was delicious with a rich pork bone broth. I decided to pass on the extra noodles because I was already full. But it was delicious. The regular customers, visitors from Tokyo, someone who hadn't been to Hakata in 12 years, and the ladies all shared interesting stories. I'm glad I chose this restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I had yakitori at a riverside stall and then decided to visit another place for a second round. Honestly, I came all the way to Tenjin to try a famous stall, but it was closed. I looked around and checked on Tabelog, and ended up deciding on this place, Ajifu. I wasn't expecting much, but I started with beer, gyoza, leek and egg stir-fry, and yakitori. It was decent. For the finishing touch, I had ramen and was surprised by how delicious it was! It wasn't too heavy, but it was definitely authentic Hakata ramen. The regular customers around me were welcoming, and I ended up drinking a lot of shochu. The bill was surprisingly reasonable too! Maybe this place is perfect for beginners to try out stalls. I've decided to revisit when I'm in Hakata next time! Thank you.

During my sightseeing in Fukuoka, I was introduced to this place by a local. When I visited around 9 pm, the seats were full. I mustered up the courage to ask, and they quickly found me a seat. The recommended dish was the gyoza, so I ordered gyoza and beer first. They filled the gyoza with the filling after I ordered and then grilled it. It was delicious. There were other menu options, but the prices seemed a bit high. I enjoyed the atmosphere, so it was a good experience. The staff, a man and a woman (maybe a couple?), were efficient and friendly.

After about four weeks on the road, the end is finally in sight. I left Isahaya in the morning and returned to Hakata via Nagasaki from Shimabara. Tonight's goal is a party at a food stall. I headed to the Tenjin district but everywhere was crowded, so I was lost until the mama-san made a seat for me. I quenched my thirst with beer and ordered some snacks. The fried sweet potato was seriously delicious. The dumplings were addictive. The ramen at the end was light and easy to eat in one go. I chatted with the gentlemen next to me, and after a lot of back and forth, I was satisfied and full.

Well, I had three glasses of Grasshopper, but I still want to drink a little more and I'm starting to get hungry from all the walking. As I walk, I see food stalls here and there. I found a stall with the word "gyoza" written on it and it looks lovely. I've suddenly got a craving for gyoza. I've never seen or heard of this stall before, but that doesn't matter. My bar-hopping sensor is highly sensitive and in situations like this, I never go wrong. So, I remove the curtain and step inside. I order gyoza for 480 yen for 8 pieces. I realize I haven't had shochu yet today, so I also order a shochu highball. As I watch the proprietress, she starts wrapping the filling in the gyoza skin after receiving the order. It's innovative to start making it after the order is placed. It's literally freshly made. The gyoza sizzles in the frying pan and it's ready. Hmm, these gyoza are delicious. They have a hint of garlic flavor... I have plans to meet someone tomorrow, but oh well, it's too late to worry about that now. However, even though the menu says 8 pieces, there seem to be 10 pieces... I must have good karma for this reward. The shochu highball goes well with it. Speaking of Hakata stalls, it's all about ramen. Come to think of it, every time I come to Hakata, I always end up eating oden and never have ramen before leaving. It's been a hundred years since I met here. Let's try the authentic Kyushu ramen for 500 yen. The noodles are boiled for just 40 seconds. The ramen appears in no time, rivaling the speed of udon at a train station. This is the famous Hakata stall ramen, huh? Let's try the soup... Delicious!! The noodles are slurping... Delicious!! What is this extraordinary deliciousness? Without a doubt, this is the best ramen I've had this year! No, it might be the best ramen I've had in the past 5 or 6 years. At least ten times better than the ramen from the stall in Kure! The soup is amazing. I expected the tonkotsu soup to be richer, but it's surprisingly refreshing. Is it this delicious because I've been drinking? Or would it taste different if I were sober? Maybe my body just needed a moderate amount of salt. It's like a "drinkers' high" rather than a "runners' high." Just when I was impressed by the late-night ramen and how delicious it was, if I come back sober next time, I might think, "Huh? Wasn't it even more delicious last time?" But it still tastes good. The noodles are perfectly firm, good! It's really delicious. It's surprising that such a delicious ramen shop is relatively unknown. I can't help but be amazed by the breadth of Hakata's ramen culture. The bill comes to 1280 yen. The prices here are reasonable too. I found a good stall. I'd like to try the ramen here again next time. If it's still delicious then, it's truly a bullseye. It's 1:30 am, I'd like to visit one more place, but I have work tomorrow... I mutter to myself as I disappear into Haruyoshi where my hotel is located.

May's Kuroisa campaign featured street food stalls. Thanks to that, I went to street stalls more often than usual. For around 1000 yen, you can feel happy and talk to strangers. There seem to be various issues, but I still want this culture to be preserved. This time, I visited "Ajifu" restaurant. Actually, I tried to visit several times this month, but it was always full. This time, I peeked in while they were preparing to open. I waited while sipping on Kuroisa highball. Since they were still preparing, I was able to take a nice picture of the display case. The yakitori set of 6 pieces is recommended. It includes sand liver, wiener, tsukune, pork belly, and chicken skin. Classic choices. They also put in the effort to shave lemon zest over the cabbage. The chicken wings are deboned before grilling. Easy to eat and deliciously crispy skin. Of course, I had to order some gyoza. Made fresh after ordering. Quick movements in the kitchen. It must be tough keeping track of all the orders. They ended up giving me 2 extra pieces. The gyoza is light and you can eat as many as you want. The restaurant quickly filled up after opening. I'm glad I came early. ● Restaurant Information Ajifu 090-3327-5244 Tenjin 2-chome, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City (in front of Mitsukoshi / along Watanabe Street) Business hours: 19:00-01:30

This was my first experience at a Hakata food stall. I had researched on websites like Tabelog and had listed up places with good reviews in advance. Just before visiting, I made a reservation over the phone. Fortunately, they had a table available right away and we hurried over. Our hotel was in Tenjin, so we followed the directions given over the phone and found the stall located next to Mitsukoshi Department Store on the Watanabe-dori side. The stall was almost full, but they moved some customers around to accommodate us and secured a table for two. It was so much fun. We started with bottled beer, yakitori, and gyoza. Drinking bottled beer at a food stall is great. They served the yakitori on a plate with cabbage. Eating the yakitori and cabbage together was delicious. My biggest surprise was the gyoza - when you order it, the wife wraps and cooks it right there. I tried gyoza at four different places during this trip to Fukuoka, but this one was the most delicious. The additional sake paired well with the food, and the leek and egg topping was also very tasty. I had a fun conversation with a slightly tipsy intellectual gentleman sitting next to me. I also had a young person sitting diagonally take a photo for me. This is the joy of food stalls, I thought. The wife's lovely demeanor was also a fun memory. Thank you very much. Fukuoka, the city of food, has a wonderful food stall culture. I may be presumptuous as a novice to write this, but please enjoy the essence of Hakata food stalls at Ganso.

August 17, 2011 Street Stands. Theme: Gyoza in Hakata at night. At the very end, gyoza at a street stand. This place also seemed to be off the beaten path for tourists. "Ajifu" offers not only gyoza but also yakitori and ramen. On this day, it was quite late and the ramen was sold out, but the goal was gyoza. No problem. But we also had yakitori. Heart. Liver. Charcoal-grilled is really delicious. And the gyoza. After ordering, the mama at the shop starts making the gyoza. The bite-sized gyoza is easy to eat. We thoroughly enjoyed Hakata at night. Back to work tomorrow. Will I be able to reintegrate into society... See you later.
