Heavy rain... Level 4 alert issued for Itoshima. Been glued to the NHK news since morning... They say it's a once-in-a-few-decades event, but it feels like it happens every year! However, this time it seems like Saga is getting hit hard. Shocking footage of Saga Station flooding... really intense. Saga is where my roots are. Thankfully, all my relatives are safe, but still worried about the days ahead. Hoping it doesn't get any worse. The rain is really something. Even with the rain, I have to go to work. Didn't want to stay home alone, so I brought my daughter, a rare occurrence, for some work in Fukuoka city... finishing up in Imazu. "Let's grab something to eat before heading back," I told my daughter. "Isn't this near Ichiran Forest?" my daughter asked. Yes, that's right. My daughter recently tried Ichiran ramen and really liked it, even though she doesn't usually say she wants ramen or anything like that. She has been asking to go to Ichiran during the summer break, so it was a good reminder. (laughs) By the time we arrived, it was almost evening. The parking lot was quite full, with several large buses. Is it crowded? I wondered. The rain had eased up a bit, and as we approached a large factory, my daughter started running. There were three ticket machines, with groups of foreign tourists and a few couples forming lines. While waiting, I happened to read a poster on display. "Kids' Ramen"... so they have that at Ichiran. And this "Kids' Ramen"! If you download the app on your smartphone and get a coupon, it's free. I asked a cute female staff member if the coupon could still be used now that we downloaded it, and she said, "Of course it can be used!" Furthermore, for each adult, up to five children under elementary school age can use it. So if a couple comes, it's free for 10 children? I had no idea!! (laughs) I confirmed that you can also add toppings and extra noodles! (with additional charges, of course). It was our turn at the ticket machine. So, I decided to try the "ICHIRAN5 Selection" (1,390 yen). Ramen, half-boiled seasoned egg, additional 4 slices of pork, wood ear mushrooms, and 2 sheets of seaweed in a set for tourists, I think. It seems that getting the set is a bit cheaper than ordering toppings individually (I think). For my daughter, I ordered the "Half-Boiled Seasoned Egg" (130 yen) and "Half Extra Noodles" (130 yen). I added "Extra Noodles" (190 yen) for myself. We entered the store. Since I was with my daughter, I thought it might be okay to sit at the Ichiran food stall or table seats, but... it was quite crowded. We were guided to the Flavor Concentration Counter. It was empty. The kids' ramen is a system where you show the staff the coupon screen, they tell you the store code, and then you get a voucher. My order sheet, as usual, had extra white leeks, and the secret red sauce was doubled. My daughter's "Kids' Ramen" order sheet had everything circled that she didn't want... it would just be plain ramen! (laughs) I managed to get her to circle the pork slices. Submitted to the staff. While waiting, we enjoyed the "Half-Boiled Seasoned Egg" (130 yen). This is really delicious. My daughter was delighted too. Soon, our ramen arrived. The ritual at the Flavor Concentration Counter. My daughter, on her third visit, still seemed nervous. (laughs) I ordered the "ICHIRAN5 Selection" (1,390 yen). Toppings come on a separate plate. First, I took a sip of the soup. Oh, Ichiran... it's delicious. So, I added all the toppings... a super luxurious Ichiran special. This is really extravagant. My daughter immediately peeked over. She spotted the seaweed and said, "Can I have one sheet!" She loves seaweed. Without saying anything, a large sheet of seaweed. Half as is. Half for soup. As she peered over, she found the seaweed. "Can I have one sheet!" She loves seaweed. Without saying anything, a large sheet of seaweed. Half as is. Half for soup.
