Fukuoka Prefecture is blessed with the sea, and there are many places where you can enjoy fresh fish. While it's a bit far to go to Munakata City, which has many fishing ports, I sometimes visit Itoshima City to enjoy fresh fish. This time, I decided to revisit the sushi restaurant where I couldn't decide what to eat last time. The location of the restaurant is near the sea, in a quiet place where you can see the ocean. I arrived just before 1 pm on a weekday, slightly adjusting my visit time from last time when I couldn't find parking due to the crowded lunch hour. The lunch menu only had two options, so I had to order something different from last time. I entered the restaurant and this time decided to sit at the counter. I ordered the Nigiri Sushi Set for 1500 yen, which came with tempura, chawanmushi, a small side dish, and soup. Eating sushi at the counter is definitely the way to go. The seven pieces of nigiri sushi, including spear squid, tuna, sea bream, shrimp, kanpachi, salmon, and sea urchin, were beautifully arranged on a large plate. The sushi was a bit on the smaller side, but the rice was well-packed and the vinegar was nicely balanced. The freshness of the fish, sourced from the local fishing port, was evident. The kanpachi and sea bream had a great texture when bitten into. I heard that even the sea urchin was locally caught. The tempura consisted of shrimp, squid, shiitake mushrooms, pumpkin, and green beans, served as a five-piece assortment. It was hot and crispy, and I wished they had provided matcha salt for dipping. The miso soup contained a good part of tai (sea bream) fish head, which I couldn't eat last time and only drank the soup. The small side dish was snap peas with a little bit of mayo and turban shell sea urchin dressing, similar to last time. The chawanmushi had a subtle dashi flavor, with kanpachi fish, shiitake mushrooms, mochi, and ginkgo nuts as toppings, garnished with mitsuba leaves. After eating all this, I felt satisfied. Unlike a seafood bowl where you can eat until you're full, with sushi, you have to be careful not to overeat and lose the lingering taste of the sushi in your mouth. Itoshima City, with its abundant sea, is a place I enjoy.
