When wandering around Shinsaibashi, I felt like eating yakiniku, so the woman I was with said, "There's a place near here called Gyuu no Hige." I was confused and asked, "Huh? Dragon's beard? Cow's whiskers? Wait, there's a place called that?" But she ignored me and we arrived at the restaurant... The name of the restaurant had a nice ring to it. The atmosphere was very stylish, and despite being small, it was cozy. They used gas for the grill, and there were the common smokeless roasters on the tables. The menu was quite extensive, and the impressive array of vegetables displayed on the counter seemed to be a selling point. However, it felt a bit pricey for my mood at the time, so I ordered a little reluctantly. I got some loin, sashi kalbi (a unique dish with sashi in kalbi), my favorite horumon, tetchan, and a few side dishes. Since I was driving, I opted for oolong tea. But then, some appetizers were served. It was unusual for a yakiniku restaurant to provide appetizers, and we were told we could choose one out of three options. We each chose a different one. The taste was okay, similar to the appetizers you get at izakayas. Then the sauces arrived, two types. Unfortunately, I didn't like either of them – one was a bit sour, and the other had a thin sauce-like taste. The loin and kalbi arrived, about four slices per serving. It was a bit on the expensive side at over 1000 yen per serving. The taste was... well, just like any other yakiniku restaurant! But because I didn't like the sauce, I have to give it a negative review. Sorry! The horumon dishes also arrived, and I poured the sauce over them without marinating. It was also mediocre. I wish they had either marinated the meat properly or not used the sauce at all. Overall, the flavors felt a bit bland, neither good nor bad. Perhaps the price was for the ambiance. The staff were very polite, and they had a nice older person serving us, which added to the comforting atmosphere. It seems like a good place to bring a girl for a date, considering the ambiance. But I prefer yakiniku places where I can eat heartily! I ended up paying around 8000 yen for four types of meat, three side dishes, and two oolong teas.
