On Saturday, I took a walk to this restaurant near Kansai University for lunch. I arrived before noon, so there were almost no customers, but soon students started coming in one after another. The American-style interior must be lively at night. The restaurant seems to specialize in omurice. With little prior knowledge, I decided to go for the top menu item, which I assumed would be the most popular. But before that, I ordered a side dish, which was potatoes. One thing I want to complain about is the condiments like ketchup and mustard. They should have been replenished properly before opening. Not just at my table, but overall, they were lacking.
- Braised Pork Omurice (L) 1,099 yen
- Set: Potatoes, Drink
Now, onto the main dish, the omurice. The size ranges from SS to king, and I chose L. When the menu arrived, I was a bit surprised. I thought, "Huh?" and when I looked at the omurice from the top and sides, I realized it was quite a lot of rice. This called for the pitch-eating method, where you feel instinctively that you have to finish it quickly to avoid danger. It reminded me of the exploding fried rice at Yonaka Soba in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture. The omurice had soy-flavored rice instead of chicken rice. The braised pork, which was the filling, was quite sweet. I got tired of it quickly. So, I ended up adding ketchup and pepper midway, but it was frustrating because the condiments were not managed well. As expected in a restaurant located next to a college, the portion was generous and satisfying. The staff was good, but I wish they would improve the management of condiments.
