When you walk towards Temma Station from the Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street, which is said to be the longest in Japan, you will encounter a unique Osaka deep space that you have never experienced before. In this space, there is a Western-style restaurant that quietly stands out as the best cost performance and delicious restaurant in Japan. Gomenne JIRO should be considered as a place where reservations are essential, but they only accept same-day reservations, so it is recommended to contact them early in the morning. The restaurant has only two tables and a counter. The owner and his son or maybe just an employee, I'm not sure about the details, but the way they handle an unbelievable amount of orders with remarkable efficiency is like a showtime! And the surprising thing is their pricing and extensive menu. A draft beer costs 440 yen, and we ordered the following dishes: - Shrimp fry - Egg cream croquette - White fish with sea urchin sauce - Cabbage roll - Gratin - Hamburger steak - Plum and shiso rice - Mentaiko spaghetti Ordering all of these only cost us 6,000 yen for two people, isn't that a miracle? Especially the shrimp fry for 280 yen? What's going on? Do they not know that prices have gone up in this area? It's almost embarrassing. And all of them are of top-notch deliciousness. It takes time, but the hamburger steak and gratin are a must-order. We wanted to eat more if our stomach capacity allowed, but this was the limit for two people. I want to go there again. It was a truly valuable experience that made me seriously think that. Thank you for the meal. Please never go out of business!

In Tokyo, when you say Jiro, it's Sukiyabashi Jiro, but in Osaka, it's Gomennne JIRO! This is the epitome of Osaka's downtown Western-style dining. It can be a bit challenging to get in due to its popularity, but if the timing is right, you might be able to get a seat easily. This time, I was lucky enough to find an open seat, so I went in after a long time. Everything you eat here is delicious, cheap, and perfect. I hope these kind of great restaurants continue to thrive forever.

This is my first visit of the year. Huh? The phone isn't connecting, and even the master's cellphone isn't working. I wonder if they're busy or taking a break, a slight unease crosses my mind, but I decide to visit anyway. There was a note on the entrance door which solved the mystery. It said they are too busy to answer the phone on Saturdays. Luckily, a seat opened up and I entered the restaurant. I believe I ordered a variety of dishes like assorted appetizers, cream croquettes, shrimp fry, gratin, mushroom omelette, beef tataki, plum shiso pilaf, draft beer, and lemon shochu highball. Everything I ate was delicious, and the service was meticulous. I also had a nice conversation with the master in between cooking. He mentioned a radio show he appeared on, so I'll listen to the second part on the archive later. I sent a thumbs-up cheer to his son and left the restaurant. His smile is lovely.

On a Saturday night, I visited this restaurant for the first time. The place was already full. I was surprised when I looked at the menu! Except for the Beef Cutlet (1,400 yen), all the dishes were priced below 1,000 yen at this Western-style restaurant!? I thought maybe the dishes would be like small tapas due to the low prices, but what came out was about two-thirds the size of a typical Western restaurant dish! And it was incredibly delicious! I ordered about seven dishes this time, and none of them were disappointing! Especially the Slightly Steak with Beef Fillet (750 yen) was amazing! It had about four slices of steak, but the meat was so tender! I wonder if they use high-quality fillet meat because the meat's flavor was great, and it paired perfectly with the steak sauce. I felt somehow guilty about the 750 yen price tag... I want to try all the dishes on the menu!

I felt like eating Western food, so I called around 8:00 pm and luckily they had a table available, so I made a reservation and arrived 15 minutes later. It's a classic Western-style restaurant in town! The food comes out quickly, the prices are very reasonable, and it's delicious. The appetizer platter included shrimp fry, fried chicken, omelette rice, hamburger, and mentaiko spaghetti. Even with all that, it was less than 5000 yen. That's what you call great value for money. There are many other menu items I'd like to try, so I definitely want to visit again. Just be aware that they only accept same-day reservations.

I'm sorry JIRO-san, I've been wanting to go there for a while. I called at 10 am on the day and was able to make a reservation for 5 pm. I entered right at 5 pm. People kept coming in and it was full. Even during that time, there were inquiries on the phone and people peeking in from the door. It was so busy for a weekday. We ordered Katsuo tataki with wasabi sauce, cream croquette, JIRO-style beef tataki, scallop butter garlic, gratin, white fish with sea urchin sauce, a little shrimp fry, hamburger, and two full bottles of white wine and beer. It ended up being a little over 10,000 yen. If I can come again, I would like to try the beef tataki and croquette! It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Reservation was made on the same day. I called around 10:30 on the day of the reservation. They told me to call 10 minutes before my 7:00 reservation, so I planned to call back later. However, about an hour later, the restaurant called me and said they would hold a table for me at 7:00, so I was very happy! Unfortunately, I got lost on the way and ended up being 15 minutes late. I felt really bad for inconveniencing the restaurant. I ordered a spicy ginger ale, assorted appetizers, beef tataki, hamburger, white fish with sea urchin sauce, and egg cream croquette. All the dishes were beautifully presented and came out quickly, even though it was just two people running the place. The food was delicious! The beef tataki was tender and the sauce was amazing. The hamburger was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked. The croquette had a creamy egg filling. The white fish was flaky and the sea urchin sauce was not overpowering. Even for someone who doesn't like sea urchin, it was enjoyable. Everything was delicious! The total bill was a little over 4000 yen.

The cost performance is extremely high. The appetizer menu item is priced like a side dish, but the portion is actually enough to share for two people. The taste is delicious, as expected. It is rare for an established restaurant to offer such value. First, we had white fish with uni sauce. The sauce had a deep and interesting salty flavor with richness and umami from the mayonnaise, although the uni flavor was not very prominent. The texture of the fish was unique, with layers similar to a tamagoyaki. It was truly wonderful. Next, we had stewed cabbage. Japanese Western-style cuisine seems to be influenced more by Central European countries than by England (curry, Worcestershire sauce), France, or Russia (the origin of curry bread, piroshki). Stuffed cabbage rolls are a good example of this. The mild yet rich flavor of Western cuisine, made with beef bone and meat stock, onions, and vegetables commonly found in cold regions like cabbage, was representative of this influence. Although I didn't notice any distinct features, it was a long-time favorite and very enjoyable. The curry with cutlet was surprisingly made with stewed beef inside the croquette. The texture was unique, not like the usual pork cutlet, with a firm yet tender meat-like feel. While the specific meat flavor was not discernible, the overall taste was sharp and well-balanced. The curry had a traditional flavor, with a broth-like essence of onions dominating, creating a dish where richness and umami were the main flavors. Of course, this is also characteristic of Western cuisine. However, the service was lacking, as the master and staff were too busy with only two people. They did not even provide answers to questions. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is mainly for regular customers, especially groups, so dining alone may feel out of place. Nevertheless, I believe it is worth visiting at least once. The special attention to classic dishes adds a touch of excellence that can make up for other shortcomings. I would like to revisit someday for the hamburger or beef dishes!

I was really surprised. This was the best and most cost-effective restaurant I've been to recently. I ordered 6 items quickly to make it look like a course menu when I first ordered. The beef cutlet alone is 1,400 yen, but other menu items are around 400 yen. Even though we ate a lot and had drinks, it didn't exceed 5,000 yen for two people. I was truly amazed. Each menu item was delicious, and we enjoyed each dish with surprise. The salad dressing was unique, with a flavor like compote that went really well with the prosciutto. The shrimp fry menu costs 280 yen and comes with 3 pieces and plenty of tartar sauce. It was crispy and delicious. The cheese omelette was the best in the omelette world. There is also an omelette rice menu, so I'm looking forward to going there again. The gratin was piping hot! It had plenty of prawns in a rich cream sauce. Delicious. The beef tongue stew had such tender beef tongue that it could be easily cut with a spoon, and it was well combined with the hashed beef sauce. It was incredibly delicious. The sauce on the beef cutlet was rich, and the thick cutlet with crispy coating was very tasty. The dishes were served in a course-like order, and the staff was very kind. The smile of the head chef when we left made me feel that it was a really good working environment. It's a great restaurant where you can truly be satisfied and I highly recommend it to others! Thank you for the meal!

I have been a heavy repeater since I first visited this small Western-style restaurant recommended by an acquaintance. The counter and two seats in the back create a cozy atmosphere, and the food is top-notch. The wine bottles are reasonably priced at around 2400 yen, making it easy to enjoy a delicious drink. Highly recommended dishes include beef cutlet, egg cream croquette, and a small sirloin steak. No matter what you order, you will be completely satisfied with the delicious flavors!

It was a truly wonderful restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the prices were very reasonable, almost too cheap. Everything was delicious. Although the menu says "there are no recommended dishes," everything is actually delicious. A must-try is the Jiro-style beef tataki. It was tender and incredibly tasty. The gratin was also really delicious. The beef cutlet and hamburger steak with demi-glace sauce had a slightly bitter and rich flavor. They generously poured the sauce over them. The fried food was crispy. The tartar sauce for the shrimp fry was also rich in eggs, giving it a mellow taste, and they served plenty of it. The spaghetti and pilaf were also elegant and delicious. I am very satisfied.

Our restaurant is located a 5-minute walk from Temma Bridge 6-chome Station on the Osaka subway. Just before Tenma Market. This area has a unique atmosphere typical of Osaka. No parking available. Our restaurant was selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog, a popular restaurant review site. On a Saturday morning, reservations are only accepted for the same day, starting at 10 am. Before that time, the phone line is busy, so it may take a while to get through. When I finally got through at 10:13 am, I was told that all reservations for the day at 5 pm were already full, and I might have to wait regardless of what time I arrive. I decided to go and wait. Arriving at 18:50, I found one other party waiting ahead of me. After a 40-minute wait, we were finally seated. The exterior looks like a small izakaya or teishoku restaurant, while the interior is cozy with 8 counter seats and 2 tables. There were two staff members, with one mainly handling customer service and the other cooking. The menu boldly states "No special recommendations." We ordered a glass of white wine for 450 yen, a glass of red wine for 450 yen, an assorted appetizer plate for 520 yen, a small shrimp fry for 280 yen, gratin for 600 yen, hamburger steak for 800 yen, a small beef tenderloin steak for 750 yen, cream croquette with egg for 420 yen, minced eggplant fry for 450 yen, and cabbage roll for 420 yen, to share between my wife and me. The prices were surprisingly cheap, and the quality of the dishes was exceptional. Each dish we tried was delicious, with no disappointments. The beef tenderloin steak, in particular, was incredibly tender and flavorful. The master chef even commented on how quickly we were eating, comparing us to eating soba noodles. Overall, we were impressed by the quality and value of the food and the friendly service. We would love to visit again and try more dishes.

It's been a long time since I've been to a restaurant, maybe since before the pandemic. I've been avoiding crowded places, so I haven't been going out at all. Even though I could still see inside the restaurant during the early days of the pandemic, now they have put up white plastic boards so you can't see inside anymore, making it look even more suspicious from the outside. There's a sign outside saying "1-person reservations are full," which I don't remember seeing before. I heard that they started closing earlier since the pandemic, so it seems like you can get in easily if you go later. Although they are open until 10 pm, they might close early if there are no customers. I went late this time, around 8:30 pm, and there was only one group of customers there, followed by another group. They mentioned that if you go around 7:30 pm, there might be openings after the reserved customers leave. I only go on weekdays, so I'm not sure about weekends and holidays. - Cheese Omelette: The cheese sauce is so smooth and amazing! I've never had anything like it before, it's full of cheese on the omelette. - Beef Tongue Stew: The stew is rich and has a nice thickness to it. The balance of demi-glace and acidity is great. I ordered bread because it made me crave it. - Beef Tataki Jiro-style: The sauce here is delicious, and the meat is tasty too. - Shrimp Fry: The most common Western-style dish, but of course, it's delicious. It's a bit generic for this restaurant, so I might want to try something different next time. It's cheap though. - Ham Salad: Still delicious with the dressing. - Spinach and Green Onion Pancake: Is this even Western food? It's so filling. We each had 3 drinks, and the total bill was 6,000 yen, which is cheap. It was delicious as always, so I'm thinking of going back next week. There weren't any scary people this time, so I'll check it out again.

About 20 years ago, I read an article about this restaurant by "Satonao" and visited it with 4 people after a 2-year hiatus. As always, it's "fast, delicious, and cheap." Located in a narrow alley in Osaka Temma, here is the place called "Gomenne Jiro," apparently named after the famous song by Chiyo Okamura. By the way, I don't recall listening to this song. This restaurant is a famous Western-style restaurant and very cheap, so you can order a lot. Today, with 4 people, we started by ordering all the menu items. First, we ordered 4 appetizers. Here is how they looked on my plate. We also ordered a bottle of white wine for 3 people. The menu only has one type of red and white wine, and they have no plans to add more in the future, which is perfectly fine for a local Western-style restaurant. Out of the 4 appetizers we ordered, 3 have arrived. First, my favorite, smoked salmon, was delicious. Next was bonito tataki with wasabi sauce, followed by a ham salad. The last appetizer was an egg cream croquette. It had a creamy egg inside and was very delicious. Then, we started ordering various dishes. The fried burdock was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the white fish with sea urchin sauce was a mysterious but delicious dish. We also ordered a hamburger steak, scallops with garlic butter, and a few shrimp fries. The scallops with garlic butter were one of the top dishes. We also ordered a red wine bottle and enjoyed dishes like beef-wrapped burdock sauté, Jiro-style beef tataki, and eggplant stuffed with minced meat. We ended our meal with plum and shiso pilaf and mushroom omelet. The fried dishes at Gomenne were all under 500 yen, and we couldn't stop eating. In the end, the mushroom omelet was our last dish.
