Starting from today, it is September. Today in Sapporo, it was a relatively cool day with occasional rain. I wanted to have a meal that is easy to eat in this cool weather to boost my energy, so I visited a long-established tonkatsu restaurant for lunch. I ordered the special fillet cutlet set. After waiting for about 10 minutes, it arrived. I poured sauce over the fillet cutlet and took a bite. It was crispy and tender, with a great harmony with the sauce. It was excellent.

First visit. There are several parking spaces in front of the store. They use Hokkaido-produced pork and Hokkaido-produced rice. The cheapest option is the pork cutlet set meal for 1,300 yen. The most expensive is the assorted cutlet set meal for 2,200 yen. I was also interested in the pork sauté set meal, but I ordered the pork cutlet bowl for 1,300 yen. Recently, the menu has been featuring cutlet bowls, which is rare. It comes with miso soup and pickles. There is chopped seaweed on top of the cutlet. The thick cutlet has a satisfying texture. However, there are some parts that are difficult to chew due to the sweet tenderizing. It feels like the seasoning of salt and pepper is lacking. The coating is hard and tends to peel off. The onions are lightly cooked and taste good. The egg topping is nicely runny but a bit scarce. The sauce on the rice bowl is not too sweet and easy to eat. The rice portion is generous, so it's quite filling. There is an ashtray placed on the table. (July 2023)

We went as a family for lunch. It was crowded at 12 pm on Sunday, but we were lucky to find a parking space for one car. There is a parking lot in front of the restaurant that can fit about four cars. There are both sunken kotatsu seating and regular table seating, and this time we were seated at a table. I ordered the pork cutlet set. Since there was a customer before us, it took about 20-30 minutes from ordering to serving. The operation by the husband and wife team may not be fast, but considering the time it takes to fry the cutlet, it was not slow. Looking at the cutlet when it was served, it was clear why it took some time. The pork cutlet was about 2 cm thick. It was thick, juicy, and tender. It wasn't incredibly tender, but it had a nice chewiness that was easy to bite through. The homemade sauce had more acidity and saltiness than sweetness, and it was delicious. Both the quality and quantity of the pork cutlet were satisfying. We were full. Thank you for the meal. We also got some for takeout.

Whenever I came, it was always closed. Whether it was during work or I made a special trip, it was always closed. Maybe it's because of the influence of the coronavirus. However, I finally managed to come at the right time. It's a place I can't visit often, so I ordered the Special Roast Set for 1470 yen. The interior of the restaurant is a traditional Japanese-style set meal restaurant. There are tables and tatami rooms. The pork cutlet that came out was dark and shiny with oil seeping out. When I looked at the cross-section, it seemed like the meat was cooked after being cut, with a mysterious finish. I took a bite. It was crispy! The breading was crispy and firm. It easily separated from the meat, making it a bit difficult to eat. The meat itself was tender. The rice was also delicious. It would have been better if there was a little less oil.

Today I had tonkatsu for lunch at Tonkatsu Tontei in Nishino. The traditional atmosphere of the place promises high-quality tonkatsu. The restaurant has three tables for 4 people each and three raised tatami seating areas for 6 people each. There are ashtrays on the tables, so it seems smoking is allowed here, which is rare nowadays. The menu offers a variety of classic items, and I was particularly interested in the pork sauté, but since I came to a tonkatsu restaurant, I decided to order the "top quality loin cutlet made with fatty and tender premium meat" as indicated on the menu. After ordering, I noticed a note below the menu saying "If you can't finish your meal, takeout is available," which made me wonder if the portions are large here. Well, I'll have to see for myself. About 15 minutes after ordering, I heard the sound of tonkatsu being fried in the kitchen. It seems they take their time with the preparation, which raised my expectations even more. Finally, the dish arrived! The first impression was that the tonkatsu was incredibly thick! It seemed even thicker than the thick cutlet I had at Yuzuki before. But when I looked at the cut side, the coating seemed a bit thicker. Nevertheless, the meat was thick and looked delicious. I took a bite with tonkatsu sauce and mustard. It was light! The coating didn't feel greasy at all. Instead, the pork loin was incredibly tender, juicy, and flavorful with the perfect amount of fat. I was truly impressed by how juicy and tender the pork loin was. I was prepared for the spiciness of the oil in the coating to kick in towards the end, but the dish remained delicious until the last bite. It was a truly delightful meal. Thank you.

Today I decided to try a restaurant near my parents' house. It was surprising to find this place here, as it seems to have opened while I was away from Hokkaido. It's located right across the street from my father's childhood home, a place I used to visit often as a child. However, the area has changed a lot since North Ichijo Street was built. I was planning to take a walk, but the weather became unstable around 10 am, so I ended up driving there. I arrived just after the opening time at 11 am. The parking spaces in front of the store are divided by white lines, but the spaces are quite small for 3-number cars. Luckily, I was the first customer today, so I didn't have any issues. Inside the empty restaurant, I ordered the "Pork Cutlet Set Meal" for ¥1155 including tax. I had heard that the owner used to be a sumo wrestler, but he didn't give off that vibe. The meal arrived in about 10 minutes. At first glance, it looked good, but the rice portion seemed small. I had expected a larger portion considering the owner's background. The size of the cutlet was decent, and when I cut into it, the thickness was okay. However, the breading easily fell off, and it seemed like the meat wasn't pounded enough. The meat quality seemed good though. The set came with soy sauce and sauce, and I found it interesting that they served soy sauce. I tried it on one piece, and while it was tasty, it wasn't to my liking. So, I used the sauce for the rest of the meal. The meat was slightly tough, probably because it wasn't pounded enough. The rice was delicious, but I finished it quickly as the portion was small. I thought it would be nice if they offered free upsizing and cabbage refills during weekday lunch hours. I left the restaurant without seeing any other customers come in.

This is a tonkatsu restaurant in Nishino, West District that has been around for a long time. Despite the impact of the new coronavirus, they have started offering takeout. They have also made efforts inside the restaurant to ensure social distancing, such as setting up tables that are not in use to maintain distance. The takeout comes in plastic containers and they generously provide plenty of sauce. The rice and cabbage portions are also generous. The tonkatsu itself is juicy and very delicious. I would like to dine in at the restaurant again, but the takeout option is also great.

I happened to see a blue noren with the word "tonkatsu" near a intersection in Miyanosawa, Nishi-ku, Sapporo, so I impulsively decided to visit the tonkatsu restaurant. The sign on the wall indicated that they close at 2:00 PM for lunch, and it was already 1:00 PM. I hurried inside and found no other customers. Looking at the menu, it seemed to be a specialty shop for fried foods. I ordered the rosu katsu set. The katsu was quite voluminous, measuring about 8cm by 20cm with a thickness of around 1.5cm. It was juicy and surprisingly tender for its thickness. I enjoyed it by alternating between the sauce in a pot and soy sauce. The sauce had a mild spiciness and was delicious, while the soy sauce was also good. I wished they had a dressing for the salad to accompany it. Overall, it was a tonkatsu restaurant that I would like to visit again. The master and his wife were watching TV when it was not busy. I wonder what they were watching? (laughs) Thank you for the meal.

I found out what time I returned the night before through a certain smartphone payment history email. I didn't remember buying water at the convenience store near the dormitory (bitter smile). Still, I didn't feel too bad in the morning, and after taking a bath at the hotel, I felt refreshed. I picked up my car parked near Kikusui Station, did some shopping at Sozosawa East, and decided to visit this tonkatsu restaurant near my parents' house in Hassamu that I had been wanting to go to. It's called Tonkou, located on Kitaiichimiyazawadori, just 3 minutes by car from Tsukimachi Street, along Miyazawa Street. There were no cars in the parking lot, but there were four customers, a parent and child. They must live nearby. I sat at the central 4-person table. A couple in their 70s seemed to be running the place. I was considering the special loin set, but lately, the special loin often turns out to be rib loin, and many cases have asked for better trimming, so I ordered the regular loin cutlet set (with extra rice). It took about 12 minutes for the food to be served. As expected, with the extra rice, there was quite a lot of rice. And the cutlet had a very juicy appearance in the cross-section, overflowing with meat juice when eaten with salt. However, the tail end still had unfinished trimming, so the difficulty of the sinew touching the mouth was a downside. Also, the salt and sauce were relatively common, and the tasteless "table salt" was a little disappointing. The rice and miso soup were delicious, and if the trimming was done well, the cutlet would have been at a considerable level, so I think just a little improvement would easily make it over 4.0. I secretly want to try pork sauté as well (^^).

I had the special top quality pork cutlet set meal for 1470 yen. It was delicious, but when I tried to pick up the meat with chopsticks, the breading would come off right away. No matter how many times I tried, it would come off. In the end, I ended up eating the naked meat and then eating the breading that had come off... Hmm, it doesn't feel like I'm eating tonkatsu. So, I sandwiched the peeled breading with the naked meat to try and bring out some tonkatsu flavor. Thank you for the meal.

I ordered the pork cutlet set meal. The meat was tender and went well with the sauce, which I heard was homemade by the owner. I savored the tonkatsu and rice, washed it down with miso soup, and finished off with pickles to cleanse my palate. Overall, the flavors harmonized well. It's a bit disappointing that the breading is a bit fragile, but the taste and quality of the meat are top-notch. I highly recommend trying it out. The handmade details really came through, and I enjoyed it. Satisfied.

A cozy family-friendly restaurant with both regular tables and raised seating areas, offering a spacious interior. The meat had a firm texture but was easy to chew and enjoyable.

"In April 2015, Tonkatsu Tonkou is a tonkatsu restaurant established in 1990. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this local tonkatsu restaurant run by a veteran couple. The owner is a former sumo wrestler from Utashinai, who used to belong to the Dewa stable. While known for their tonkatsu, they also offer a reservation-only chanko nabe dish from the Dewa stable. The portions are generous, typical of a former sumo wrestler's establishment. I visited for lunch on a weekday with my usual dining companion. The restaurant is located in the Nishi-Nino area of Sapporo, along the Miyanosawa street of North 1 Jo. You can check the exact location on Tabelog. We arrived around 2 pm and parked in the restaurant's parking space. The interior has a traditional feel but is well-maintained, with six 4-person tables in the raised seating area and three 4-person tables. As there were no other customers, we were seated at a table. The menu does not have a specific lunch menu, so I ordered the Special Loin Set and my companion ordered the Special Fillet Set. It took 22 minutes for our two tonkatsu sets to arrive. Special Loin Set: - Thick-cut tonkatsu made from Hokkaido pork - Hand-cut meat, resulting in a thickness of about 1.5 cm - The loin meat is tender and the breading is crispy - Homemade tonkatsu sauce with a medium thickness - Served with lemon, shredded cabbage, apple, parsley, lettuce, cold tofu, pickles, radish pickles, and miso soup with rice Price: 1470 yen (including 8% consumption tax) Special Fillet Set: - Jumbo fillet tonkatsu made from Hokkaido pork - Thick-cut meat with a thickness of about 1.5 cm - The fillet meat is large and thick, not easily broken with chopsticks - Homemade tonkatsu sauce with a medium thickness - Served with the same sides as the Special Loin Set Price: 1680 yen (including 8% consumption tax) Both sets feature jumbo tonkatsu made from Hokkaido pork. The meat is delicious and the portions are generous. The thick meat requires longer frying time, but the quality and quantity make the Special sets worth the price. While not delicate, these tonkatsu are hearty and satisfying. I look forward to trying the Special tonkatsu set again in the future. It was a delicious meal, thank you."

This is a place located in Nishino 4-jo 9-chome, in the Nishi ward along Kita 1-jo Miyanosawa-dori. You can check the exact location on the map on Tabelog as usual. I finally visited this restaurant, which I had been curious about since the opening of Kita 1-jo Miyanosawa-dori, which made it easier to access from Teine. I parked my car in the front parking lot, facing backwards for an easy exit, and entered the restaurant. I sat at a table with good ventilation and ordered the "Special Roast Pork Cutlet Set" since the price difference with the regular "Roast Pork Cutlet Set" was only 315 yen. After a 15-minute wait, the dish arrived. The pork cutlet was a deep fox color, and upon inspection, the roast pork was well cooked, but there was some separation between the meat and the breading. I added some mustard and squeezed lemon on the cutlet, generously poured the restaurant's special sauce over the cutlet and cabbage, and then started eating. The pork was a bit tough, with a slightly sweet fatty part and a firmer lean part. I ate the cutlet with rice, cabbage, miso soup, and occasionally some cold tofu with pickles. I resisted the temptation to order extra rice this time and finished my meal. Overall, I wasn't completely satisfied with the pork cutlet this time, but I still want to continue trying different pork cutlets in the future.

Located along Kita 1-jo Street, closer to Nishino, you can park your car in front of the restaurant and enter. There are a few regular tables and a spacious raised seating area without sunken kotatsu tables. The restaurant has a bit of a vintage feel. The air conditioning seems to be working well. I ordered the pork loin set meal for 1260 yen. It was lunchtime, but there didn't seem to be any special lunch sets available. The meal arrived in about 15 minutes. It was quite a generous portion. The pork loin was lean and healthy, but quite large, so it probably has a high calorie content. The batter was thick, making it a bit difficult to eat as the batter and meat tended to separate. It came with cherry tomatoes, shredded cabbage, and lemon wedges, along with a dollop of ground mustard. The miso soup had plenty of green onions and diced tofu. The pickles were cucumbers. Smoking is allowed in the restaurant. While the portion size was decent, the tonkatsu menu items were all priced at over 1000 yen, so it's not cheap. In Sapporo, tonkatsu restaurants tend to offer free refills of rice, miso soup, and cabbage, which is a nice service. The restaurant had a sumo-related display, giving it a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere.
