This restaurant is run by a chef who used to work at a high-class traditional Japanese restaurant, so the focus is all on the delicious food. Although not specifically recommended, they also have a selection of delicious Japanese sake that changes with the seasons. If you ask, they will explain the dishes in great detail and will cook the hot pot right in front of you, ensuring it is delicious. I really want to eat their delicious water hot pot! Highly recommended to others, and I also want to visit again. You can also purchase sets from their online shop, and they even provide recipe suggestions for variations, although I doubt there will be any leftovers as it disappears in seconds. It's just chicken, vegetables, and a little bit of rice, making it perfect for muscle-building! It is a great diet food! Delicious!

It was very delicious. I think the owner's dedication is the key to the deliciousness. The sukiyaki here is not too heavy and easy to eat. This is a place where you can truly feel the essence of sukiyaki. I went to eat with a friend who was visiting Fukuoka, and they were also very satisfied. The prices are reasonable, making it an easy place to visit!

Around 6:00 PM on a weekday near Tenjin Station in Fukuoka. Three work colleagues heading to "Samonji" for their first round of drinks. The entrance has a screen displaying Hakata Mizutaki. Upon opening the white, sleek door, they enter the restaurant. There are no other customers inside, so they are seated at a reserved table in the back. They start with a toast with draft beer and enjoy a dish of chicken and broccoli as a complimentary starter. Next, they try the Goma Saba, a must-try dish in Kyushu with a nice balance of sesame and soy sauce. Cheers with another round of beer! Moving on to the Tebasaki Mentaiko, freshly fried and filled with plenty of spicy cod roe. It's hot and crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with a kick of spiciness that pairs well with beer. Time for some preparation for the Mizutaki, accompanied by some sake. They try the Shishiou Junmai Daiginjo from Kobori Shuzo in Ishikawa, with a soft mouthfeel and a sharp finish. The Mizutaki is served following the traditional Hakata Mizutaki method, starting with the chicken broth and then adding the chicken meat, vegetables, and tofu. The rich flavor of the dish is enhanced with each addition. They enjoy the Mizutaki with Nambu Seki sake from Iwate, which has a rich flavor that complements the dish. To finish, they have a comforting Zosui with egg, a perfect way to end the meal. The total cost is around 5000 yen per person. They express their intention to visit again before heading back to catch the Shinkansen.

Ordered sesame amberjack (course) with Mizutaki, it was not as good as in Genkai (Shinjuku) but it was cheap so it was okay.

I was attracted to the restaurant name "Hakata Kishimen" and decided to try it out. I love kishimen! Since it has the name "Hakata" in it, I thought it might be a little different from the traditional kishimen and maybe a bit softer. But it turned out to be udon instead. The menu clearly stated "udon". The noodles were a chewy type of Hakata udon, with thin flat noodles. I chose the bonito broth for the soup, which was slightly sweet and gentle. The popular item at this restaurant seems to be the "Chirimen Sansho". Even during the 20 minutes I was there, I saw people buying it at the storefront or placing phone orders. I was already getting full from the udon, so I didn't order it, but you can add the Chirimen Sansho rice for an extra 150 yen during lunch, which seems to be a hit. The staff at the restaurant were friendly, and I had a pleasant dining experience. They also serve Mizutaki (chicken hot pot) in the evening, and the shelves were lined with a variety of delicious shochu.

On January 23, 2012, I had kishimen at "Samonji" in Tenjin. Located in the heart of Fukuoka's Chuo Ward, Samonji is a shop specializing in Hakata kishimen. Despite its small size, the shop has a cozy atmosphere. You can choose between hot and cold kishimen, with broth options including bonito, chicken, sea bream, and spicy miso. I went with the standard bonito broth for 600 yen. I recommend adding some yuzu pepper for extra flavor. And the highlight of the meal was the dried fish and sansho pepper topping, which was delicious. You can even buy this topping online. It pairs well with shochu, which the shop offers in a variety of options ranging from 450 to 1000 yen. They also have a selection of sake starting from 300 yen. This is a great spot for a relaxing drink with a small group. ● Shop Information Samonji 092-732-3357 Business Hours: 11:30-14:00, 18:00-23:30 (open until 21:30 on Saturdays, closed on Sundays and holidays)

After a long time, I visited Tenjin and went to a place called "Samonji" which is a kishimen (flat udon) restaurant. I had tried their kishimen as a souvenir from a previous trip to Nagoya and it was delicious, so I wanted to see if there was a place in Hakata where I could try it. They offer a lunch set for 780 yen where you can choose from different flavors of kishimen like spicy miso, bonito, sea bream, or chicken (prices vary slightly). I chose the chicken kishimen for 580 yen and added the set for an extra 200 yen. The set includes rice, a small side dish, pickles, and either dessert or coffee. There are different rice options and I chose the chirimen sansho. The kishimen has a chicken broth base with chicken mince and vegetables. The unique texture of the kishimen noodles was just as good as the souvenir I had before. For dessert, I had yuzu sherbet which was refreshing.

I like to have Asari noodles for lunch. What I like here is that you can choose from four different types of broth for the noodles: bonito, chicken, sea bream, and spicy miso, depending on your mood that day. I have only been here for lunch, but for an additional 200 yen, you get rice, pickles, and a drink. The photo is of sea bream broth noodles and Hakata chirimen rice set. I recommend the chirimen rice and bonito broth set. Probably, this is the only place in Fukuoka where you can eat authentic Asari noodles. I also had yuzu sherbet for dessert, but I vaguely remember that you had to choose between dessert and a drink.

I sometimes go to this restaurant for lunch. It's quite rare to find a kishimen (flat noodle) shop in Fukuoka. You can choose from bonito, chicken, or sea bream broth, as well as spicy miso. I always end up choosing the sea bream broth when I come to this shop. Maybe because it's something I can't easily make at home? This time, after some hesitation, I went with the sea bream broth again (laughs). I also added a poached egg on top. The soup is light but flavorful, with a rich broth that makes you want to drink it all up. I've also tried their lunch set before, which comes with rice and is quite filling. The noodles are thin, which may not be satisfying for someone like me who loves Sanuki udon, but they are still delicious. The addition of a piece of mochi is also a nice touch!

I chose the Bonito Dashi Kishimen from the four special Kishimen options at a Hakata Kishimen restaurant. For an additional 200 yen, I also got to choose rice, a side dish, pickles, and dessert or coffee. The Bonito Dashi Kishimen had a gentle flavor that seeped into my body smoothly. I unknowingly finished the soup because it was so delicious. It was light but had a rich umami flavor. The noodles were flat and thin, easy to slurp. It was a comforting lunch that made me feel warm inside. Thank you for the meal.

I sometimes go for lunch. Today was particularly hot, so I felt like having udon! I had the zaru kishimen at an udon restaurant near Pietroville. The interior of the restaurant only has tables. I sat at the edge today (but the edge might be dangerous. Ants climb onto the table...). They seem to be particular about their broth, and it's delicious. I ordered the zaru kishimen (550 yen) and the lunch set (200 yen). The kishimen has a good texture and is delicious. The lunch set allows you to choose your rice. There are about 5 options like okowa and chirimen gohan. You can also choose between dessert or coffee. I ordered the mountain vegetable okowa and yuzu sherbet. The mountain vegetable okowa is chewy and tasty. The yuzu sherbet is refreshing and nice. After paying, they gave me a candy for a refreshing end as I left.

I have been going to this place for about 4 years now, maybe more. I have only been there for lunch, but the food is really delicious. I always order the chicken broth kishimen and the 5-piece set. The broth is so good that I always finish it all, it's so flavorful and tasty. You can choose from chicken broth, bonito broth, sea bream broth, or spicy miso for the broth, but personally I like the chicken broth the best. You can also choose from side dishes like mountain vegetable rice, salmon rice, or Hakata chirimen rice. The prices are usually around 800-1000 yen, and the clientele is mostly older ladies. They also serve sukiyaki at night, so I want to try that next!

I went to this restaurant for lunch after a long time. It was a cold day, so I wanted something to warm me up. The restaurant was packed, and the staff mentioned that they were surprised by how many customers there were. It seems like everyone had the same idea of wanting to warm up on a cold day. I ordered the "Curry Flavor" udon, which I saw on the menu. You could choose between udon noodles or egg noodles, and I chose udon noodles. The flavor was a bit mild for my liking, but it had a spicy kick that helped warm me up. I was disappointed that they didn't have the mountain vegetable rice. The coffee for dessert was also delicious!

A friend who had been there several times and praised it highly took me there. The interior of the restaurant exceeded my expectations and seemed to be popular among women. This time, I ordered katsuodashi kishimen (I forgot the price) and spicy miso kishimen for 650 yen, with an additional 200 yen for chirimen rice and coffee (or sorbet). First, the kishimen had a delicious broth with plenty of bonito flakes and kombu, which even satisfied me as a Kansai native. The spicy miso flavor was also gentle and delicious, and the noodles had a perfect texture. The chirimen rice topping was not too overpowering and tasted good. Considering the price, it was a generous portion.

I decided to have a hot pot at the end of the year and ordered Samonji-san's "Hakata Jidori Soup." It comes with 4 packs, which is plenty. I used 3 packs this time. I usually use bone-in meat for water-based hot pot because the broth comes out well, but this time I tried using regular chicken thigh since the broth is already prepared. First, I thawed and heated up the soup. I took a sip and the broth tasted really good. It's delicious even when you add salt. It's not as rich as it looks, quite refreshing. I made the chicken meatballs myself. And of course, we finished with ramen. We enjoyed it with Himalayan salt. It was delicious.
