As I was walking in Imazumi, a Chinese-style restaurant suddenly appeared. I decided to try their lunch menu, even though I'm not good with spicy food. I ordered the "Yulin chicken lunch" (1078 yen). The dish had a surprising amount of chicken thigh meat, with crispy skin and a delicious sweet and sour taste. The chicken was cut into small, easy-to-eat pieces, and there were plenty of chopped purple onions and green peppers. The rice was shiny, the soup was hearty with plenty of wakame seaweed and grated yam, and the dessert and pickles were also included. Lemon-infused water was provided, which was refreshing. I felt a bit guilty for finishing all the food, as I later learned that leaving a bit of food is considered good manners in China.

I was searching and came across a Chinese restaurant that I didn't know about - Fish Man's Soba, which is almost next to where I was, so I decided to head towards the Imazumi area. Upon arrival, the interior had a pretty Chinese vibe. The word "福" was not upside down here, so it seemed like a Sichuan cuisine restaurant. I was torn between Dan Dan noodles and Mapo Tofu, but I decided to go with the Mapo Tofu (I prefer sesame-flavored Dan Dan noodles over spicy ones). I ordered the Mapo Tofu from a staff member who seemed to struggle with Japanese. I asked for extra rice, but it seemed like they didn't understand. It arrived in about 15 minutes. I took a bite immediately. It was delicious!!! Spicy!!! The Mapo Tofu had a Sichuan-style numbing spiciness. This goes really well with rice. Of course, I ran out of rice... When I asked if I could have a refill, they brought it without saying anything. Good service. I should have mentioned it earlier haha. I am full now. Thank you for the meal. Two days in a row with Mapo Tofu haha. Today's was so spicy that I broke a sweat.

I checked out this place on some SNS in January 2021!! The corner of Imaizumi has been cut off and it looks like it has become China! The store has a fantastic interior with exquisite furnishings throughout. The tables and chairs are made of bamboo, giving off a strong sense of capital. The lunch menu is quite limited, but the evening menu looks amazing. This time, I tried the lunch before going at night. I went on an empty stomach and ordered two dishes (pork). The staff are all Chinese, with only one person using Japanese fluently. The "Water Dumplings" (1280 yen) are quite pricey but visually appealing with 9 plump dumplings. Each dumpling costs 130 yen. They are delicious when dipped in their homemade sauce, with a gentle skin and a flavorful filling. The "Red Tantan Men" (980 yen) looks refreshing and the soup is surprisingly low in salt. It has a light sesame flavor and a gentle chicken broth taste. The noodles are standard Chinese style, and the minced meat with black sesame paste adds richness. It's not as spicy as expected, but as you eat more, you can feel a slight opening of your pores. It's a high-quality Chinese dish with a rich flavor. In terms of lunch, the prices are a bit high, but the evening menu looks very appealing, especially the lamb hot pot. I will definitely try it next time. Fukuoka will no longer be called a Chinese food wasteland! Looking forward to experiencing its true potential at night!

Delicious tantanmen at Wukui in Imaizumi. Had lunch at the Chinese Sichuan restaurant "Wukui" on the 1st floor of a building in Imaizumi. The restaurant's name is written as "wukui" but pronounced differently in Chinese. The lunch menu is just over 1000 yen including tax. I tried the red tantanmen for 980 yen plus tax. It had a good kick to it with flavorful minced meat and dried shrimp. The price is definitely reflected in the quality. The only downside was the uncomfortable bamboo chairs and tables. I wish they had some holey ladles.

Wukui is a Sichuan cuisine restaurant in Fukuoka, located in the Imazumi area. The restaurant has a unique atmosphere with vintage Chinese decorations. During lunchtime, they offer set meals and noodle dishes in limited quantities at affordable prices. The restaurant opened in March and has a spacious interior with a Hong Kong movie set-like vibe. The tables and chairs are made of bamboo, and there are colorful carved decorations that give an authentic vintage feel. The name "Wukui" refers to a title in the military exam in ancient China. The entrance is decorated with figurines from Chinese folklore, adding to the overall ambiance. The lunch menu includes dishes like sweet and sour pork, mapo tofu with Wagyu beef, and Sichuan-style cold noodles. The reviewer tried the Sichuan-style cold noodles, which were flavorful with a hint of spice and topped with crushed peanuts. The almond jelly dessert was homemade and refreshing. The staff, all Chinese, may still be learning Japanese, but they are friendly and provide a genuine Chinese dining experience. Overall, the reviewer had a satisfying and enjoyable meal at Wukui.
