I often go to Shiga Prefecture, but I've never heard of "ton-chan" fried chicken before. It's interesting that it's called "ton-chan" even though it's made with chicken instead of pork. "Torinaka" is a chicken meat shop in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture. "Ton-chan" seems to be chicken marinated in red miso sauce. The origin is unclear even on the official website of Torinaka. The flavor is well infused into the center and it's quite delicious! I imagine it must be irresistible when freshly fried. Personally, I like "kei-chan" from Gifu, which is made by marinating chicken in red miso, soy sauce, or salt-based sauce, then grilling or cooking it in a pot. It has a wide variety of preparations, so I thought if kei-chan was made into fried chicken, it would be similar to this dish. I usually pass by Don Quijote's prepared foods section, but I decided to try it for the first time, and it's surprisingly interesting.

MEGA Don Quijote is like the upscale version of Don Quijote. It stands tall in the New World area. The building itself is complex, with parking available for easy access. It seems to be connected to a pachinko parlor, with different floors to explore. It's fun to wander around inside and make new discoveries. However, it may not perfectly capture the unique atmosphere of Osaka's New World. One interesting item they offer is the "Mega Mori" series of bento boxes, filled with plenty of curry on rice. It's a great deal for filling up your stomach!
