Today's Kyushu MR. I got hungry on the way, so I went to Sasaki Udon in Kitakyushu for a taste of the local flavor. It's lunchtime so it's a bit crowded. But the turnover is fast, so I was seated in about 10 minutes. I ordered the recommended Kashiwa Gobo Udon. The oden is self-service, so you have to go pick it up. People in Kitakyushu apparently eat oden while waiting for their ordered dishes. There's nothing particularly special, but the beef tendon skewers are made with Achilles tendon instead of membrane, which is quite Kyushu-like. The noodles are soft, and the broth is sweet with a base of flying fish. It's delicious. Thank you for the meal.

One of the udon chain restaurants commonly seen in Fukuoka is Sizan Udon. It was my first visit there! I sat down and placed my order using a tablet device. I ordered the popular No. 1 dish, Niku Gobou Ten Udon. The broth was sweet and savory, which paired well with the soft udon noodles from Fukuoka. The dish had plenty of delicious Niku Gobou Ten on top. Thank you for the meal!

I had a stereotypical judgment that coming all the way to Hakata just for udon was strange, but I decided to give it a try. It was clear that the locals love it, as the place was packed with people. The fact that there are so many chain stores here is also a testament to that. I decided to go with the eel tempura rice bowl set from the seasonal menu. The udon wasn't as soft as I expected, but it was still delicious. The tempura was a nice addition. The eel tempura rice bowl was decent and had great value for the price. It's no wonder why this place is loved by everyone. The sweet rice cake that came with the set was a bit too much for me, but it was still tasty.

When I came to Hakata, I was told that I must try the meat and burdock tempura udon with botamochi for lunch. It also came with an eel bowl, all for less than 1000 yen, which I thought was a great value. I usually don't like burdock tempura, but when I tried it, I found that it went well with the udon broth. The udon noodles had a soft texture. I'm not sure about the meaning of botamochi, but I felt very satisfied and full after the meal.

I came after a long time. Last time I came was so long ago that there was no order panel. I really wanted to eat meat udon. The free tororo kombu topping is the best. I love it so much that I always order it as a topping. It's been a while since I last had it, and it was a bit light in flavor. I remembered the taste. I like strong flavors, so I felt a little unsatisfied. But it's always crowded and very popular. Thank you for the meal ☺︎

Today was a little chilly, so I decided to go to Sasanoya Udon for something warm! Due to the pandemic, I mainly used takeout. The interior of the restaurant, where I sat for the first time in a while, had been updated to a touch panel ordering system. I ordered my favorite classic dish, Gobo Tempura Udon with Oden, and a Kashiwa Onigiri. The thin noodles are always the best! The taste was as reliable as ever! Thank you for the meal!

#Seafood Ankake Udon at Sushi Udon Sushi Udon's limited-time special, the Seafood Ankake Udon. The tempura includes imitation crab, oysters, baby scallops, and yellowtail. I personally appreciate the use of yellowtail instead of just sea bream. Thank you for the meal! #SushiUdon #AnkakeUdon #UdonLovers #HangInThereSushiUdon #MorningSushi #HangInThereSushiUdon

When I come to Sato's Udon, I often eat Katsudon, but this time I decided to challenge the Chicken Katsu Curry because they also have a curry fair. I ordered it with Kake Udon and it arrived in about 15 minutes. The curry had a generous portion, and I felt a bit guilty for not finishing it all, but it was delicious.

It's Sunday, April 12th. My wife and I drove from Sasebo to Ikea and Cainz for some shopping. After we finished shopping around 1 pm, we noticed this Shingū store right off Route 3 and decided to have a late lunch here. I had been craving the delicious Katsudon I had tried here before. We parked, sanitized our hands, and went inside to be seated at a table. There was a tablet on the table for ordering, which was a new experience for us. I ordered the Mini Katsudon with Udon for 890 yen, while my wife got the Niku Gobō Tempura Udon for 750 yen. Her udon arrived first, followed shortly by my Katsudon. The udon broth was flavorful and comforting, especially with the added tororo kelp. The Katsudon had a standard thickness pork cutlet, but the combination of egg, sauce, and rice was just as delicious as I remembered. I wish I had ordered the larger size though. We quickly finished our meals, enjoying every bite. I forgot to take a picture right after the food was served, as I was eager to eat. Marusan Udon is a reliable choice, and I would definitely visit here again when in Shingū. We paid 1,640 yen before leaving. Let's drive safely back home. Thank you for the meal.

In Kitakyushu, there is a udon restaurant often seen along Route 3. Their specialty seems to be the gobo tempura. I also often see kashiwa (chicken) dishes in this area. I tried the "kashiwa gobo tempura" for 680 yen, which has both ingredients. You order using a touch panel, a modern style, and the food is brought to your table. The dish had a generous topping of crispy gobo tempura, with a delightful aroma. The Kyushu specialty kashiwa was sweet and savory, blending well with the broth. The udon was not the firm type but rather chewy. It's interesting to see the variety of udon across the country. It was delicious and satisfying on an empty stomach for a late lunch.

Pressure Cooker Udon for 850 yen. Personally, my favorite udon shop in Fukuoka is Zisan. I like mochi, so I tried the Pressure Cooker Udon. The ingredients included meat, shrimp tempura, fried tofu, shiitake mushrooms, and 2 pieces of mochi, which provided a satisfying meal. The soup was slightly sweet, but I enjoyed the firm and soft texture of the noodles.

On a cold day, nothing beats udon noodles! So, I visited Sann Udon for the second time at lunch! This time I ordered the Niku Gobo Tempura [700 yen]! It arrived in about 4 minutes! First, let's talk about the soup... I'm not great at food reviews other than ramen, but the gentle and addictive taste of the kombu dashi was really good! The noodles were chewy and had a nice bounce to them, just the way I like it! The meat was small but had a good chewy texture and a gentle flavor. The gobo tempura was a good size, with a soft coating where it soaked in the broth and a crispy texture where it didn't. It was delicious! Next time, I want to try some oden with a drink at this place!

Right now, at 9:00 AM, I really wanted to eat a katsudon, but it's hard to find a restaurant open at this time. Ah! There was a 24-hour Sanuki udon shop nearby! I quickly headed there and ordered a katsudon and a mini udon. My heart and stomach were satisfied, and I was very happy.

When I come to Fukuoka, I always crave for the curly udon noodles at Cocochi. On my fourth day in Kyushu, the most stomach-friendly option is definitely udon. This time, I passed on the botamochi and went for the Goboten udon. I added shredded dried seaweed, tempura flakes, and a sprinkle of shichimi spice on top. Do people in Kyushu not use shichimi spice? The crispy Goboten is so delicious that I want to have another bowl, but... I have been eating and drinking excessively for four days since my medical check-up, so I'll be satisfied with just this for breakfast.

On this day, it was a chilly day in Fukuoka with light snowfall. It was perfect weather for a hot soup, so I went to Yudemen for lunch. My personal favorite is the large pork miso soup for 290 yen. Usually, I pair it with a regular beef bowl for 330 yen, but this time I decided to try the beef and egg bowl with miso soup for 650 yen and upgraded my pork miso soup to a large size for an additional 210 yen. The beef and egg bowl had a delicious semi-cooked egg that added a nice sweetness to the beef bowl broth. The piping hot pork miso soup was also delicious, and I enjoyed it while it was still steaming. It was a satisfying meal. Thank you.

After a long time, I tried night fishing, but I'm not good at night fishing (^_^;) It's cold, I'm sleepy, and I can't see the line... I decided to challenge the night fishing occasionally, but I didn't catch anything (ToT) At 3 am, I got hungry... so I packed up my fishing gear. On my way back, I stopped by "Sannomiya's Shisan Store." Despite the late hour, there were quite a few customers. I ordered the chicken and egg udon for 550 yen. The sweet and savory chicken was delicious! Ah~ the broth soaked into my cold body! I added grated yam, tempura crumbs, and red pepper flakes one by one. Depending on my mood that day, I customized it to my liking. This time, I added extra grated yam, a little bit of tempura crumbs, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes! Shisan is a reliable place even late at night! It's the best (≧▽≦) It's so convenient that they're open 24 hours. Thank you for the meal! Next time, I want to stop by Shisan after catching too many fish and getting tired~! It's just a wish (lol)

I bought fresh fish and sweets at the Munakata Michi-no-Eki and was planning to have lunch there, but there were a lot of security guards due to a citizen relay race scheduled for the afternoon. Since it was a busy time with passing participants, I decided to move to a nearby restaurant for lunch. I had been burning a lot of calories recently by increasing my running distance, so I was really hungry. With my mother-in-law with me, I thought a Japanese meal with easy-to-digest udon would be good. We ordered tempura udon, katsudon, nikudon, and tendon. In the end, my mother-in-law ordered tendon (laughs) and I ordered my usual tempura udon and katsudon. The tempura udon was as delicious as always, with half of it soaked in broth, giving a crispy yet soft texture. I added grated yam halfway through, enhancing the broth flavor. The broth flavor intensified, and I ended up drinking it all at once. As I finished the tempura udon, the katsudon arrived. The thick, hot fried pork cutlet melted in my mouth, with the unique Kyushu soy sauce and broth flavor spreading in my mouth. The soy sauce really complemented the katsudon! Even after finishing the tempura udon, I enjoyed the katsudon effortlessly. The miso soup that came with the katsudon was also delicious. I was grateful for the familiar taste of home and enjoyed every bite. I also bought some kizamitsubozuke and botamochi as souvenirs. Thank you, Sanchi Udon, for always serving delicious food. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal.

Before going to IKEA, I had an early lunch. There aren't many lunch options around here if you're coming from the Koga IC direction. It's strange how there are so many yakiniku restaurants around here. Anyway, I ordered the classic Niku Gobo Tempura Udon for ¥700. As for COVID-19 measures, they only had alcohol disinfection at the entrance. Water, chopsticks, and dressing were all placed on each table. I enjoyed topping my udon with plenty of oboro kombu. The stick-like tempura had a nice texture. It's great that they're open 24 hours. I also became curious about their morning menu.

A while back, I had to go to Fukutsu for work. On the way back around lunchtime, I decided to stop by Shisan Udon along Route 3. There are quite a few dining options for those heading towards Kitakyushu on Route 3, but not many good ones for those going towards Fukuoka. Just as I was wondering where to eat, I spotted Shisan Udon and instructed my subordinate, who was driving, to pull over. The design of Shisan Udon stores is consistent and gives a calming feeling. I ordered the classic Yakisoba Udon (I believe it was 780 yen). I always struggle with when to break the egg on top, but this time I did it right away. The bonito flakes sprinkled on top added a delicious touch, making me wonder whether to choose meat udon or yakisoba udon every time. My subordinate ordered the Katsudon set, which was surprisingly filling for a lunchtime meal. Overall, I think it's a great option for a lunch outing for salarymen. If you have any recommendations for places to eat on the way to Fukuoka, I'd love to hear them (laughs). Thank you for the meal!

I visited the restaurant because it was featured on a TV show, and tried the katsudon that was highly praised, along with a side of small udon. Honestly, the meat was a bit tough, the katsudon was just average, and the soy sauce was a bit strong. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as amazing as they made it out to be on the show. As for the udon, I prefer places like "W" or "M" instead.
