Dinner at a small bistro in the Tenjin area. It's located near the center of Tenjin, close to Oyakoko Street, and it's surprising to find a French restaurant in such a place that has been in business for over 40 years. The entrance is labeled as "Wine Bar & Diner". They offer a "Wine Set" for 648 yen, which includes 3 appetizers and a glass of wine. The interior of the restaurant has a cozy and old-fashioned vibe, resembling a traditional Parisian bistro. The menu is not very extensive, as it depends on the daily ingredients available. The place is run by a friendly chef-owner and a female server. On this particular day, the restaurant was full with two groups hosting wine tasting events. We sat at the counter, along with a few other customers, including a solo female diner. We started with a refreshing beer and sampled the regular menu items, as well as some off-menu dishes recommended by a friend. The food was well-prepared and delicious, with classic French dishes such as scallop mousse, eel herb-crusted bake, and beef tongue stew. The atmosphere was relaxed and unpretentious, making it a great spot for a casual dining experience.

I came here because I didn't have enough to drink. This is my third visit. I ordered a wine set. I got to try three different wines, which were all delicious. I can feel the chef's sense in the selection of wines (I'm not familiar with the names of the three wines). The wines from Chile and France were especially good. They only serve wines that have been tasted and approved, so you can trust their selection. The atmosphere here is very calming, perfect for a leisurely conversation. I can't wait to try other dishes next time. I want to come back soon.
Update: I visited again. This time, we ordered some food for two people. Foie gras sauté for 1600 yen, asparagus gratin for 800 yen, two wine sets for 600 yen each (with three appetizers and a choice of red or white wine), four pieces of bread for 80 yen, scallop shell mousse for 1200 yen, a bottle of wine for 3000 yen, and potato chips for 300 yen. The appetizers in the wine set were really delicious. The foie gras sauté had rice underneath which I felt was unnecessary. The scallop shell mousse was a bit pricey but incredibly tasty. I want to try more dishes next time! The relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant allowed us to have a calm and leisurely conversation.

This is an extra edition of the Sumiyoshi Bishu Walk organized by the Fukuoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. We successfully completed the three-stop bar hopping. This time, I got along quite well with S-bi-san, not Miho-san, who I was with. Since it was still early in the evening, she said, "I have a favorite place," and took me there for another round of bar hopping. We took a taxi from Sumiyoshi for about 2 meters and arrived at a quiet bar tucked away in the back alley. We ordered the "wine set" recommended by S-bi-san this time. I chose red wine as it came with the original quiche of the bar. The wine was just a regular table wine, but it was on the heavier side, which I liked. After a while, a plate of snacks arrived. Wow! The food was beyond my expectations. I thought it would be just simple snacks considering the price, but it included a main quiche with fillings, pate, salad, shrimp with basil sauce, ratatouille, and more. I was surprised by the luxurious spread. I thought it was thanks to S-bi-san, but apparently, this is the standard no matter who visits. The country-style pork pate had a gentle saltiness that paired well with the wine. This bistro is a place where time flows leisurely. It's perfect for dropping by after work. It's a hidden gem that I don't want to tell too many people about.

Old-fashioned and charming bistro. In Maizuru, Fukuoka City, I was eating curry at "Popolo" in the central and northern parts of the city when I saw another lovely restaurant across the alley. I decided to take a peek and saw a sign saying "Wine starting from 300 yen". It also said "standing bar diner", so I figured there would be no cover charge, and decided to go in. I didn't find out the name of the restaurant until I left, but later I learned it was called "Bistro Che La Pan". The interior was a bit messy, with a few seats at the waiting bar counter and three tables in the back - the fourth one seemed to be used for storage. But I didn't mind it. I liked the atmosphere - it felt like a place for wine and roses. The wine + 3 appetizer set was 600 yen. So, each dish was about 300 yen. It was surprisingly cheap. And everything was delicious! My companion ordered a glass of red wine, opting for the 300 yen one. It was a Bordeaux Cabernet Merlot. The white wine was a Chilean Chardonnay. These must have been selected by someone who knows how to pick affordable and tasty wines. I definitely want to come back and have a proper meal next time. Near the entrance, there are casual counter seats where you can sit easily, and towards the back, there are small table seats, creating a cozy atmosphere with French chansons playing in the background (I haven't been there though ^^;). The lunch menu consists of Croque-Monsieur (500 yen) with the option to add coffee for an additional 100 yen, and you can also get a refill, so I ordered without hesitation. The Croque-Monsieur arrived. It came with a salad and fried potatoes on the side. The cheese on the toast was melted on the surface, sandwiched with ham inside, fluffy and fragrant, very delicious♪ When I tried it with mustard, the taste became more intense and even more delicious. It's great that all this is only 600 yen, but men might want a bit more volume. They recently started serving lunch in this format, and they mentioned they might expand the menu in the future, so I look forward to that☆

Located just off Showa Street, this quiet, long-established French restaurant exudes a quaint Parisian bistro charm. The lunch menu offers a pasta lunch for 1000 yen and a daily meat dish for 1200 yen, which includes salad, soup, and bread. For an additional 200 yen, you can also get dessert. Today's special main dish was beef stew, with a creamy corn potage soup and a crunchy radish salad. The meat, while not Wagyu, was tender and well-cooked, with a slightly thick sauce. The homemade bread was warm and soft, though it was a shame there was no butter. The dessert, consisting of apple tart and a small chocolate cake with plenty of ice cream, was surprisingly generous and delicious for the price. Despite the changing atmosphere of the surrounding area, with the old Oyafukou Street now known as Ofukou Street, there are still many longstanding Italian and French restaurants in the vicinity. This place has a charm and quality that surpasses some of the newer establishments in Imaizumi and Daimyo. It seems like a great spot for a sophisticated dinner, with a variety of wines to choose from.
