I actually visited "Tokiraiya" yesterday and on my way back, I accidentally took a wrong turn and ended up heading towards Eniwa Station. That's when I noticed a bento shop that seemed very local and intriguing, but I decided to pass by. Today, I made sure to stop by on my way back! I arrived at the hot bento shop around 7 pm, worried that they might be closed. However, they were open! Inside, an older lady was frying food in the back, with no other customers around. When I ordered just the zangi side dish, she asked if it was okay to serve it after frying two portions that were already in progress. I asked how long it would take, and she assured me it wouldn't be long, so I placed my order. The shop seemed to have been in business for a long time, and the interior had a sense of history. The zangi that was already fried was packaged for me. As I waited for the freshly fried zangi, the lady called out to me reassuringly. After about 10 minutes, the zangi was ready! The zangi side dish alone cost around 410 yen. When I got home, I enjoyed it as a side dish with some sake. The bento shop had the classic "lid not fully closed" situation, which I found charming. Opening the lid revealed the contents. The zangi was smaller than I expected, with six pieces in total. The side dish was quite generous. The zangi tasted a bit too oily, perhaps due to the timing of when it was fried. The batter was also too thick for my liking, similar to supermarket zangi. The pickled radish was mild and easy to eat, almost like homemade, and there was a large amount of cabbage underneath the zangi. The simmered dried daikon was too sweet for me, but it would probably be enjoyable for others. Overall, the bento was slightly disappointing in terms of price, portion size, and taste, but it's a unique flavor that has been supported by the local community. I hope they continue to thrive in business! Thank you for the meal! *This review is not yet posted on Tabelog. I almost registered it as a new restaurant as it didn't show up in my search. I'm not sure why it's on hold, but if it had previously closed, it's now open and doing well.
