It was a steamy morning during the rainy season at around 10:30 am on a weekday. Feeling tired and with a headache, I walked in front of Akasaka Station seeking some relaxation. I decided to visit "Uesuto Maizuru-ten" for some comfort. The inside of the restaurant was cool from the air conditioning and not too crowded yet, so I comfortably occupied a four-person table by myself. I ordered the "Gobou Tempura Udon" (480 yen) and "Kashiwa Onigiri" (240 yen for 2 pieces). The dishes were simple yet beautifully presented. The udon had a translucent appearance with a glossy surface, a soft and smooth texture, and a bouncy chewiness. The broth was made with various ingredients like bonito flakes and sea salt, giving it a rich flavor. The Gobou tempura was generously sized and had a strong flavor that complemented the udon well. The Kashiwa Onigiri, made with chicken broth, reminded me of the homemade taste from my childhood. It was slightly sticky, bringing back memories of simple and delicious flavors. Enjoying Fukuoka's udon and Kashiwa Onigiri like this is a small pleasure that always brings me comfort.

I had thought that I didn't need to come all the way to try the collaboration menu of Morning Jam & West that I had last winter, but surprisingly my wife requested to try the udon festival's udon, so we decided to go. This time there were two menu items: "Shin Tanuki" and "Open Sesame! Bukkake", both priced at 690 yen. My wife wanted cold udon, so I ordered the "Shin Tanuki". The udon that came out had more dipping sauce than I had expected, with the fluffy tempura bits and vegetables mixed in the sauce after finishing the udon noodles. The dipping sauce was just the right amount of saltiness when eaten with the noodles, and although the sauce was a bit strong when drunk alone, adding extra green onions made it enjoyable to drink until the end without being too salty. My wife said that her udon with sesame dressing-like flavor was fairly delicious. Maybe the udon festival in summer is tastier. Last year's bukkake udon with soy milk was quite well done. Well, I might come once a year.

West is a chain restaurant that mainly operates in Kyushu, with a concentration of stores in northern Kyushu. While udon is the main menu item at West, in the evening they also offer izakaya-style dishes! One of the highlights is the "motsunabe" priced at only 290 yen per serving, which surprises customers with its affordability. While it may be categorized as Hakata-style motsunabe with soy sauce flavor, the motsunabe soup at West is made with udon broth, creating a light yet flavorful combination with the rich taste of motsu. For those who want to change up the flavor, you can purchase curry roux separately and add it to create a delicious "curry motsunabe." Adding the free green onions placed on the table enhances the flavor of the motsunabe even more! With a flexible style, you can add your favorite side dishes to the motsunabe for a unique and original experience. Additionally, if you ask the staff, they will bring you yuzu pepper. This time, I tried the "curry udon" with "niku gobou ten" and it was as delicious as always. It seems like the management structure may have changed recently, as there are new concepts and collaborations that offer a different experience at West Udon. Thank you for the meal.

I visited West Udon in the Maizuru area of Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City! I wondered why only here the word "West" becomes WEST in English, but I visited anyway. The exterior is on the first floor of a residential building, and it seems like it has been open for over 20 years. The interior has counter seats, table seats, and traditional Japanese table seats, and it is always bustling with people of all ages, families, and foreigners. The udon here is a soul food for the people of Fukuoka Prefecture, and everyone has probably tried it at least once. It is made with frozen noodles, but it has a good balance of the firmness of Sanuki udon and the soft texture of Hakata udon, making it a delicious noodle dish. I usually order the "gobo tempura" and "niku udon," but when I visited at night, it transformed into an "udon izakaya" serving alcohol from 5 pm, so I tried some drinks and motsunabe. The motsunabe, Fukuoka's strongest cost performance dish, and various ala carte dishes with highballs were delicious! As for the motsunabe, it has been proven that it becomes very delicious depending on the individual's way of eating, so this time I went for a wild "motsunabe" style. There are no rules about adding motsu from the beginning or adding your favorite ala carte items, so you can customize your motsunabe to your liking. When it starts to simmer, I added all the "negi" on the table, which was delicious. The motsu is cooked from its raw state without any unpleasant smell and has a good balance. The soup, being udon soup, has a Japanese flavor and mixes well with the fat of the motsu, making it extremely delicious! I highly recommend this. When I ordered noodles as a finish, I found out that they didn't serve just the noodles? How can you not have a way to finish the motsunabe? Ultimately, I had to order "one bowl of udon" reluctantly! I hope they can improve their customer service. I was informed that noodles cannot be added to motsunabe, and I reluctantly ordered "one bowl of udon" in the end! How can you finish the motsunabe? Some people may want to add udon noodles, while others may want to add rice and make it into a porridge. Well, the cost performance is excellent, so I have no complaints, but I hope they can make some improvements! Next time, I'll try adding curry roux. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the Udon Maizuru branch in the area of 3-8-1 Maizuru, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City. It's a well-known udon restaurant in Fukuoka that everyone in Fukuoka must have tried! It's known for being "cheap, fast, delicious," and open 24 hours, like a food convenience store. This time, I tried the famous "motsunabe" dish, which is priced at only 290 yen per serving. The soup is a delicious udon broth with fresh motsu (offal) and vegetables, making it a tasty dish even for one person. For a power-up version, when dining with two people, order two servings of motsunabe and add toppings for two people from the start. The key is to customize it with toppings like burdock tempura and try different sake menu options to enhance the flavor. Once it starts simmering, add plenty of green onions for extra flavor. If you feel like something is missing, try adding yuzu pepper. As for the finishing touch, unfortunately, you can't order just noodles as they don't offer that option, so you have to order a full bowl of udon. It would be great if they could improve this aspect. Also, they don't offer rice, so you can't have curry udon with rice on the side. Overall, it's a user-friendly udon restaurant, but there is room for improvement in terms of menu options and service. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since I visited Fukuoka! On this evening, I enjoyed drinking and eating motsunabe and udon at this restaurant. The restaurant called "West" has multiple locations in Fukuoka, mainly in the city area. On the other hand, "Suke-san" udon has its main presence in Kitakyushu, but recently, it can also be found in Fukuoka city and its surroundings. Fukuoka is famous for ramen, but it's interesting to see its unique "udon culture." Lately, with the rise of udon restaurants like "Sanuki Udon," Fukuoka has become a place where popularity is influenced by preferences and variations. However, "West Udon" not only offers udon but also serves motsunabe and other snacks at a reasonable price, making it a hidden gem! The motsunabe costs only 290 yen per serving, which is unheard of nationwide. The taste of motsunabe with udon soup, motsu, and vegetables is delicious! It is recommended to add extra motsu toppings from the start due to their affordability. Once it's ready, add a generous amount of green onions on top for the perfect motsunabe experience! It's seriously amazing! As you eat, try adding "plain udon" or "curry roux" to turn it into a "curry motsunabe," which is incredibly delicious. Adding toppings like "burdock tempura" or "fish cake" to the udon in the motsunabe enhances the experience. Even adding "fried chicken" was delicious. The udon soup has a comforting and gentle flavor, but when combined with motsunabe and curry, it becomes a deliciously intense dish. I highly recommend trying it out. Thank you for the meal.

One of Fukuoka's top three udon chains, I visited this branch of the West Higashi after a long time. There was a wait during lunchtime, but I finally got in. I went with the basic gobou (burdock root) tempura udon, and skipped the kashiwa nigiri. After a while, my udon arrived. I added as much green onions as I liked from the table. The highlight here is how well the soup and green onions go together. The udon had thick noodles as usual, the tempura was sweet, and it was in the perfect state after soaking up the soup! Of course, I couldn't stop eating and finished everything, almost drinking up all the soup. Thank you for the meal!

West! is a soul food in Fukuoka that satisfies the stomachs of the people of Fukuoka with its qualities of being "cheap," "fast," "delicious," and open 24 hours a day. Established in 1966, West still serves freshly fried or boiled udon upon order, so you can always enjoy delicious udon. The noodles are smooth and chewy, with a good balance of softness and firmness that even fans of soft udon in Hakata would appreciate. The soup is delicious with a strong flavor of bonito flakes. The quick service is also fantastic! The fried dishes are crispy and tasty. The staff may not be very friendly, but their polite service is commendable. This time, I tried "udon," "soba," and a mini tempura rice bowl, as well as a variety of fried dishes like "chicken skin dumplings," "fried chicken wings," "fried sand lance," and "round tempura." All of them were great choices for drinking with alcohol, not just the udon. The cost-performance ratio is amazing! It was delicious. Next time, I will try the motsu nabe! Thank you for the meal.

Located in the area of 3-8-1 Maizuru, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City - just a 5-minute walk from Akasaka Station on the subway line. Along Taisho Street heading towards Nagahama from Akasaka, you will find a well-known spot called "West!" in Fukuoka. Known for being cheap, fast, delicious, and open 24 hours, West has become a favorite among the locals. While there are many options to choose from at West, this time I tried the "Beef Curry Udon" for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. I like to add plenty of green onions and extra chili peppers to give it a spicy kick, taking the flavor up a notch. The generous amount of beef in the curry was also a nice touch. I can imagine that this curry would also taste great with "Motsunabe" (offal hot pot). Next time, I'll give it a try. Once you finish the noodles, try adding an "Onigiri" (rice ball) to make a delicious curry porridge. I highly recommend the set of beef curry and onigiri! Thank you for the meal. Enjoy Carry Life☆

Ordered the Niku Udon (690 yen), which was a bit pricey. It arrived in about 10 minutes, possibly due to being short-staffed. The dish came with sweet and savory cooked meat, gobou tempura, wakame, and kamaboko toppings. The clear soup became slightly cloudy from the cooked meat, and unfortunately, it was a bit too salty compared to my wife's Gobou Tempura Udon. I will be more careful when ordering in the future. Thank you for the meal.

Located in the area of 3-8-1 Maizuru, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City - just a 5-minute walk from Akasaka Station on the subway, West is a well-known soul food spot that is loved by the people of Fukuoka for being cheap, fast, delicious, and open 24 hours a day. Established in 1966, West now has 40 stores in Fukuoka City offering udon, yakiniku, and Chinese cuisine, as well as several other locations in Fukuoka and the Kyushu region. There are also 8 stores in Chiba, in the Kanto region. The udon here is made fresh to order, with fried or boiled noodles that have a perfect balance of softness and chewiness. The soup is a crowd-pleaser, made with dashi stock using ingredients like bonito, sardine, and kelp to enhance the umami flavor. I tried dishes like motsunabe, gobou tempura, nikudon, aji fry, chicken skin gyoza, tebasaki karaage, and more as beer snacks before enjoying the motsunabe and udon. The motsunabe has a soy sauce base with a strong garlic flavor, making it quite tasty. The cost performance is excellent, making it possibly the cheapest motsunabe in Fukuoka! The udon has a familiar and delicious taste, especially when topped with extra green onions and shichimi pepper. However, during busy evening hours, the service can be lacking as the staff may seem overwhelmed and unresponsive to additional orders or requests for condiments like yuzu pepper. Overall, I hope the staff can continue making delicious udon with a smile in the future. Thank you for the meal. Enjoy UDON Life☆

I stopped by at 3:30 pm on a regular day. It had been 19 hours since I last ate. It was extremely hot outside, but the inside of the restaurant was comfortably air-conditioned. It was moderately empty. I had "Gobo Tempura Udon" (430 yen) and "Kashiwa Onigiri" (240 yen for 2 pieces). In other places, I might not feel like ordering hot udon on a hot day, but in Fukuoka, I often crave hot udon with plenty of hot broth even on hot days. That was the case this day as well. I nibbled on the kashiwa onigiri and enjoyed sipping the hot broth with a salty flavor, along with the hot and soft udon. It was delicious as always. It felt like a sense of aesthetic beauty to me. Of course, the gobo tempura was also a good match. I was delighted on my own.

Today was the last day of the udon festival. I came back to have the "delicious and healthy" udon one last time. At the next table, there was a couple ordering the "New Kekko Special". It seems like everyone comes to have one last meal before the festival ends (laughs). This time, I added some green onions halfway through and put all the tempura in at the end to eat it as an "everything-in" udon. I thoroughly enjoyed the udon festival and can't wait for the next one.

On days off, I tend to have breakfast later, so I don't get hungry by noon. It's usually around 2-3pm when I start feeling hungry, but by then most places are already closed. However, I don't want to compromise my waistline! Plus, on hot days, cold noodles are a great option. So, I decided to go to an udon restaurant. I ordered the "tempura and meat cold noodles". They were still having FM Fukuoka's early summer udon festival, so my friend chose the "tasty and healthy cold noodles". There are many udon places around, but this one was not crowded, which was nice.

I went to Udon West Maizuru, a udon restaurant located about a 5-minute walk from Akasaka Station. During lunchtime, the place was bustling with nearby office workers. After a short wait, I entered the restaurant and ordered the Niku-Toku Udon for 690 yen including tax. Shortly after ordering, the Niku-Toku Udon was served. I sprinkled plenty of red pepper, added a little green onion, and then enjoyed the dish. The broth was as expected, with a strong dashi flavor that was slightly sweet and full of umami. The udon noodles were soft and of good quality, similar to Yamada Udon rather than Ise Udon. The tempura was crispy and the batter was slightly thick. The meat was tender. Overall, it was a delicious meal. I paid in cash and left the restaurant. It was a hot and humid day.

24-hour open udon restaurant that is convenient at any time of the day✨ I visited around 9 am for breakfast, and there were customers from various backgrounds including those heading to work or finishing work. I ordered the Kakiage Udon (500 yen) which was served with a generous amount of tempura on top. The freshly fried aroma was very appetizing. The soup looked thick but was actually light and had a clean and gentle taste. The tempura on top added to the richness of the dish. I sprinkled plenty of green onions and shichimi spice on top. The udon noodles from Kyushu were slightly firm, not as soft as expected, but they had a good chewiness and paired well with the soup. Overall, it was a satisfying meal with the tempura soaking in the soup, providing a delightful experience of Kakiage Udon!

On a regular night, in a room in a building near Akasaka Station, I spent about 2 hours shredding a large amount of old documents that couldn't be disposed of as they were. I did this alone while sipping on whiskey. Whiskey on an empty stomach works wonders. I realized that I hadn't eaten anything for about 26 hours. After finishing the task around 10:30 PM, I decided to check out "West Maizuru Store" nearby. It was empty, so I got a table away from other customers. I ordered "Burdock Tempura Udon" (410 yen) and "Pickled Mustard Leaf Rice Balls" (240 yen for 2). The udon had green onions on top and it was comforting. It helped me regain my composure. This was exactly what I needed. I spent about 20 minutes there. It was perfect. I left the restaurant and walked along Taisho Street to Akasaka Station. The cold night breeze was also pleasant.

I had udon for breakfast at Udon Asa in Fukuoka. I had the Gobo Tempura and Maruten Udon for 570 yen (tax included). Unfortunately, the Kashiwa Onigiri was sold out, even though I was the first customer of the day. They also said they were out of Inari besides the Kashiwa Onigiri. On the table, there were shichimi (stainless steel can version), nanami, and tenkasu. The staff also brought some green onions. The Maruten was not in the usual round shape, but rather in a fan shape with four pieces. The shop is open 24 hours, but currently opens at 8:00 am, so be aware. I was supposed to go at 7:30, but I arrived at 8:05, luckily they were still open. They only accept cash for payment.

West Maizuru store does not accept credit cards or electronic money. Some electronic money can be used in Tenjin Kita, Showa Dori, and Kokutai-doro. I was thinking of having a meal before walking into a certain park, so I hesitated between West and Motoya. I want to stop by a certain park on the way back, so there are more West and Motoya stores in the Tenjin area. What I ate: Table seat because ☆ Burdock tempura udon thin noodles 410 yen ★ Free green onions, tempura crumbs included ◆ Soup: In my opinion, it was a normal West soup. The soup decreased quickly. Maybe the burdock tempura's batter absorbed it. ◆ Noodles: In my opinion, it was cooked soft. ◇ Burdock tempura: In my opinion, the texture was good. The burdock tempura batter kept absorbing the soup. ◆ Summary: Ultimately, plain udon is sufficient. Is it better to buy a West card...

This is a udon restaurant in Fukuoka, a 4-5 minute walk from Akasaka Station. The shop is open 24 hours and offers a variety of dishes including oden and motsunabe. The interior has a counter, tables, and sunken kotatsu seating. I tried the mentaiko kamatama udon, which was served in a tube-like shape with mentaiko. It was simple and salty - I might try adding butter to make it creamier next time. The noodles weren't too firm, and the prices are reasonable.
