The deep-fried skewers had questionable ingredients, but the batter was light and easy to eat, and they were cooked perfectly. I visited a standing bar called "Tachinomi Horumon Kushi Sennichimae" in Sennichimae for the first time in 3 years. The place used to be open until around 3 in the morning, and I used to frequent it a lot. I arrived at 11 AM and the counter was already 60% full with regular customers. I ordered my favorite grilled skewer set and a Sapporo Red Star beer. The skewers included tongue, cheek, belly, tail, and thigh, all marinated in a delicious sweet and salty miso sauce that paired perfectly with the beer. I also tried the recommended butter-sautéed mushrooms and ordered chicken heart skewers with salt, which were incredibly tasty. This popular bar is where locals gather at night, and I definitely want to visit again soon. It's a casual and welcoming place to drop by for some drinks and food.

Starting with a Sapporo Lager large bottle for 510 yen, tongue for 180 yen, cheek meat for 180 yen, and pork belly for 180 yen. When I want to drink alone and relax, this is the place to go. However, it's always crowded at night, so I can't always get in. Kintetsu Namba Line, a 4-minute walk from Kintetsu Nihonbashi Station. Exit from Namba Walk B25 and head west on the Chitose Central Street shopping street. I entered a standing bar that had "Hormone Skewers" written on the sign, hoping to find beef hormone skewers. Looking at the menu, it showed pork and chicken skewers as hormones. So, I ordered a skewer set, doteyaki, and beer. The skewer set includes pork tongue, pork cheek, pork belly, chicken soft bone, and chicken thigh, 5 skewers in total. Both chicken skewers were tender and delicious. The pork cheek and tongue had a great chewy texture. The pork belly was juicy with a good amount of fat. Each skewer had a nice taste of sauce. The doteyaki had a wonderful aroma of sansho pepper. Each piece was large, and it was unique that it had whole pieces of ginger in it. The miso and ginger were well balanced, and it was even more delicious than I expected. I didn't have high expectations for a standing bar, but I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was. It's a convenient place for a casual drink with good value for money.

Drinks range from highballs and chu-hais starting at ¥350 to draft beer (Super Dry) at ¥390. The food menu is also budget-friendly, with all prices including tax. It's surprisingly convenient. Enjoying a highball with sashimi of sea bream for ¥400 on the left, dried young sardines tempura for ¥230 on the right, grilled pig innards for ¥280 above, red pickled ginger tempura for ¥180 below, and fried shumai for ¥200. For some reason, I ended with tekka maki (price unknown). The atmosphere is not bad, and the prices are affordable. I wanted to stay a little longer, but the place started to get crowded, and with the fear of COVID-19, I decided to leave quickly. In Osaka, unlike Tokyo and the metropolitan area, there are many standing bars where the counter gets packed with customers. Even if it looks empty when you enter, don't let your guard down (the place itself is actually good).

I visited the popular standing bar "Hormone Skewers Chitose En" in Namba for my second stop after drinking. The customers were mostly male, with a high percentage of older men, and the atmosphere was lively and fun. We started with a toast. The hormone skewers were a bit disappointing, very greasy and heavy. The harami skewers, on the other hand, were tender, juicy, and delicious with a flavorful sauce. The liver skewers were fresh, without any unpleasant smell, perfectly cooked, and thick and tender. The eel skewers were also thick and tasty. The pork belly and cabbage simmered in ponzu sauce was a standout dish with a delicious tangy flavor. Overall, it was a good experience, but a bit too heavy and salty for my taste.

Even though it's a standing bar, they also have white rice, onigiri, ochazuke, etc. A toast for one with draft beer for ¥390~ Pickled rapeseed greens for ¥150, crunchy with a hint of spiciness. Squid shiokara for ¥200, it's nice to have grated daikon, this extra touch is nice. Both were served quickly, which was nice. I kept it light since the night in Namba is long. I finished with white wine for ¥350, cheers! On weekdays at an early hour, almost all customers were male. Like me, they were mostly there for a pre-drink or a drink before going home, not staying long, just drinking quickly and leaving. This is the standing bar style. Oh, it's so hot. I don't want to get dehydrated! I was thinking of hydrating myself when I stumbled upon this place. It looked good, so I went in immediately. The standing bar counter stretches all the way from the entrance to the back. I was guided towards the back, where it was almost full. I ordered a draft beer (390 yen), potato salad (250 yen), twisty pork (300 yen), and a skewer set (800 yen) as sides. Despite the crowded place, there was only one waitress managing everything (amazing!). From ordering to paying, she handled it all by herself. The potato salad was the usual type, seasoned with Worcestershire sauce. The twisty pork had a good chewy texture and slightly sweet seasoning. It had plenty of onion slices, which was just right. The skewer set included five skewers of harami, liver, pork belly, teppanyaki, and akasen. They were easy to eat and went well with drinks. I also added a plain shochu highball (350 yen) before finishing. After about 40 minutes, the total bill came to 2,090 yen. I managed to avoid dehydration (laughs). It was delicious. Looking back at my previous article, it seems that I visited this place as the third stop on a drinking tour, where we had mixed offal grill, salted tongue, and other skewers like Akasen.
