It's been a while since I had Pongala Curry. Ever since the Tokyo store closed, I've had fewer opportunities to eat it, so I appreciate it even more when I come to Osaka. I ordered the "Choose 2 Curry Plate" for 1,100 yen including tax, but I added 100 yen for mutton curry. The other curry I chose was Coriander Chicken. The plate shape has changed a bit and is now deeper, with the curry already topped on it. The Coriander Chicken curry sauce is served separately in a small pot. With this plate, it's easier to mix everything together, including the side dishes, and enjoy the true essence of Sri Lankan curry. It's really precious to be able to enjoy authentic curry with basmati rice in such a convenient location. The only downside is that they only accept cash payments now, which can be inconvenient considering how we hardly use cash anymore.

Visited around 12:30 on Sunday. The restaurant was about 80% full, but I didn't have to wait in line to get in. They offer a choice of two curry plates for 1,100 yen each, and you can add a hot spring egg for 150 yen. The curry was what you would call a typical spicy curry. It tasted good, but it somehow felt like a chain restaurant, with a pre-made kind of vibe. Personally, it didn't have that standout quality for me.

When searching for curry in Osaka, Pongara Curry always comes up at the top of the list. It has been on my must-visit list for three years. However, due to my extreme lack of direction, I attempted to go there five times but got lost in the underground dungeon of Umeda each time and ended up going back home. Half giving up, a friend suggested going to Pongara Curry, and we finally managed to arrive after 15-20 minutes of walking. We were the first customers at the 11:00 am opening time. The menu looked exciting, offering a variety of Sri Lankan-inspired curries with unique flavors and spices. I chose the option to select three types of curry and eagerly looked at the menu to see what was available. There were 13 types of curry to choose from, ranging from mild to spicy, including chicken keema, Sri Lankan chicken, coriander chicken, Japanese beef curry, Sri Lankan pork, butter chicken curry, lentil curry, and more. I chose the Sri Lankan chicken, Sri Lankan pork, and added the mutton curry for an extra fee. I also opted for Japanese rice and a lunch special mini lassi drink. After a 15-minute wait, our meals arrived, and I was overwhelmed with the delicious aroma and flavors of the curries. It was a dream come true to finally taste the Pongara Curry, and I couldn't help but shed a tear. Each curry had its own unique spice blend and was absolutely delightful.

I visited for the first time and made a reservation to try the mixed plate. I didn't need a reservation as there were seats available at the counter. The mixed plate finally arrived after ordering. First, only the rice came, then later two curry plates arrived. It was a bit difficult to place everything on the table. The staff explained all the varieties, but there were so many that I couldn't remember them all. It was fun to try different types of curry, and they were all delicious. They were all spicy, making me sweat a lot, but I forgot my handkerchief... I managed to eat everything in the end. Everything was delicious, but the scallop curry and mackerel curry were particularly good. I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal! I will visit again.

On the way from Hankyu Department Store to Hankyu Umeda Station, there is a hidden gem in a narrow dining street that I had passed by many times without noticing. They offer a recommended curry plate with five types of curry to choose from, and it comes with a generous serving of side dishes. You can also opt for Japanese rice instead of the regular rice. I decided to go with the chef's choice for the curry, and it was surprisingly delicious. It was a great experience to try a flavor that I wouldn't normally choose.

I had a choice of two curry plates at Pongala Curry in Umeda, Osaka. I chose Chicken Keema and Sri Lankan Vegetable curry. You can choose between Japanese rice and fluffy Basmati rice. I recommend the Basmati rice! I wanted to choose Basmati rice, but I couldn't eat Thai rice, so I ended up choosing Japanese rice, which was a bit disappointing. The curry goes well with fluffy rice! The previous restaurant had a colorful exterior, which made it difficult to enter, but after the renovation, it had a more inviting exterior.

You can choose between two curry plates (1100 yen) - one with various mushrooms and the other with Sri Lankan chicken. The combination of fluffy basmati rice adds a refreshing taste. The spiciness of the spices is just right. However, I personally didn't find the appearance of the curry plate appealing, and the taste was average.

I was impressed last time, but the vegetable curry with coconut milk had a gentle and delicious taste. Next time, I want to try it with a meat or fish curry. Of course, I ended up mixing everything together in the end. The portion of rice was quite generous, so next time I might ask for a smaller portion. The location is excellent, with all-day opening hours making it very convenient. I will definitely come back again.

I was browsing for a place for a late lunch after 3 pm in Umeda, and I decided to go to Pongala Curry Hankyu San Plaza. It's a popular spot for casual Sri Lankan curry in the underground shopping area directly connected to the station. The restaurant is known for being one of the top 100 curry restaurants in the Eatery Curry 2022 rankings. Located in a corner of Hankyu San Plaza, the restaurant has a variety of curry dishes displayed on a large signboard outside. The interior is casual, with a U-shaped counter seating for 18 people, a counter facing the Hankyu Department Store Umeda Main Store B1 for 6 people, and 3 small tables for 2 in the back. It was around 3:30 pm on a weekday, and there were about 4-5 groups of customers inside. The counter seating makes it easy for female customers to enjoy their meals. The menu offers a selection of curry sets, including the option to choose from 13 different types of curry, including a monthly special. I opted for the choice of 3 curries plate, selecting Sri Lankan Chicken, Sri Lankan Pork, and Scallop Cream. The dishes arrived quickly, about 5 minutes after ordering. The plate was filled with a generous amount of curry. The Sri Lankan Chicken curry had a rich flavor with a mix of spices and a hint of heat. The Sri Lankan Pork curry was spicier and packed with bold spices. The Scallop Cream curry was mild and creamy, with a hint of coconut milk. The Basmati rice complemented the curries well. I used it for a weekday lunch. It was after 1 pm so there was no wait, and there were plenty of seats available when I entered. The counter was empty so I could sit wherever I wanted. It was my first time, so I got two types of curry for 1100 yen. The price goes up when you add more side dishes, but since I came to eat curry, I didn't need those (lol). It was my first time trying Sri Lankan curry. It had chunks of soybeans and chicken in the curry, and the spiciness was moderate. It was delicious, but I felt like there was a little less curry sauce? It didn't quite hit the spot for me, so I probably won't visit again, but it might suit people who like it! The service and cleanliness were fine, but there happened to be no spoon at my seat. It was just a coincidence haha.

I wanted to eat curry again, so I went to Pongara Curry. I was looking forward to trying Sri Lankan curry here. There is a counter seat, so it's easy to enter alone, and the interior of the restaurant was clean. This time, I chose the "Chicken Keema," "Sri Lankan Chicken," and "Sri Lankan Pork" triple. The menu indicates the spiciness level of the curry, so you can choose your preferred level of spiciness, which is nice. I added a mini lassi for an extra 200 yen. The dishes were served in less than 10 minutes. Sri Lankan curry is easy to eat and suitable for Japanese taste. I was happy to find chunks of chicken in the Sri Lankan Chicken curry. The "Chicken Keema" that I thought was normal had a slightly unique spice flavor. People who like it may enjoy it, but for me, who is not used to spicy curry, it was a bit challenging. You can choose between basmati rice or Japanese rice, and I chose basmati rice, which was easy to eat with the curry. It was dry and fluffy, but personally, I prefer the sticky texture of Japanese rice. Overall, I'm glad I got to experience Sri Lankan curry, but I probably won't come back again.

Visited around 11 am on Saturday. Firstly, the staff seemed a bit disorganized. The restaurant was about 20% full. I had a reservation, so they tried to seat me at a table right next to the only person sitting at the counter... I was a bit surprised. Even after I pointed it out, another staff member tried to seat me there as well. There weren't many customers coming in, so it was strange. I've experienced this kind of thing at family restaurants before, but not at a counter seat. Anyway, I managed to avoid it, but it was a bit uncomfortable. The food arrived in less than 5 minutes. It wasn't bad, but it tasted like something you would get at a chain restaurant. Nothing really stood out. Also, the curry portion seemed a bit small.

Around 8:00 PM, there were a few customers in the restaurant. I wanted to have a cheap meal in Umeda at night, but I wasn't in the mood for ramen or udon. I don't usually eat spicy curry, but I will definitely come back to this place. There are four reasons for that: it's cheap even at night, the location is convenient, the food is delicious, and it's easy to dine alone without it being too crowded. This time, I chose a curry plate where you can pick two types of curry, and I chose mutton (+150 yen) and scallop cream. The spiciness was not too strong, so even those who don't like spicy food should be fine. Especially the scallop cream was exquisite.

This is a curry restaurant located in front of Hankyu Umeda, known for being one of the top curry places. It's a bit surprising to see a long line forming there. It was my first visit and I was quite lost, but I chose the 3-curry set and had a hard time deciding on the curries, eventually choosing Chicken Keema, Sri Lankan Pork, and Mutton. Yes, I love meat. I opted for Basmati rice with cilantro as a topping. The dishes were beautifully presented with side dishes. Cilantro was served in a separate dish. As always, I savored each curry separately before mixing and combining flavors. The Mutton curry had a spice level of 5, but it wasn't too spicy. All the curries had a rich blend of spices. Mixing them brought out deeper flavors, with hints of coconut and mustard. It was a delightful experience. I finished my meal in no time. I'm looking forward to trying the Sri Lankan Curry Plate next time. The excitement never ends. It was a delicious meal. Thank you very much.

The underground area of the huge Umeda-Osaka Station is quite confusing, but I finally found the restaurant. It might be easier to find it from Hankyu Umeda. It's located in Hankyu San Plaza, on the north side of Hankyu Umeda, just a short walk from the Hankyu exit. The restaurant mainly has counter seats, but there are also table seats, making it ideal for solo or duo diners. The bright interior creates a casual atmosphere, perfect for solo diners. I planned to eat Sri Lankan curry. You can choose between Japanese rice and basmati rice, and I opted for basmati rice. I chose the Sri Lankan plate with lentil curry and Sri Lankan chicken curry. It came with five side dishes. The Sri Lankan chicken curry was full of chicken and not too spicy, and the chewy texture of basmati rice was delightful. The lentil curry had a hint of sweetness from the lentils. I started mixing them together and enjoyed the changing flavors. I slightly miscalculated the rice management. There was more basmati rice than I had imagined, and I ended up eating too much curry with each bite of rice. I thought about ordering more curry, but I was already full. You can eat Sri Lankan curry in Umeda. Osaka's curry culture is really amazing.

The default bean curry has a slightly sweet and gentle taste from the remaining beans. Each bite of curry, when mixed with the Indian side dishes, paired well with the Basmati rice. Opposite the entrance to Hankyu Umeda Store's basement is a shop where you can choose from two types of curry plates. You can choose your favorite curry. This month's curry was Chili Curry with Japanese beef. You can choose between Basmati rice and Japanese rice. While the spices were flavorful, the spiciness was not very strong. It felt quite mild and aimed to be easily enjoyable by everyone. The portion size was also on the smaller side, leaving a slightly unsatisfied feeling. Thank you for the meal.
