Opened in May 2022 in Ikebukuro, "Zhuge Kaoyu" is a serious Chinese restaurant serving Sichuan-style fish dishes. Located just a few minutes' walk from Ikebukuro Station West Exit (North), this is the first branch in Japan of a chain with 900 stores in China, as well as locations in Malaysia, Singapore, and Germany. The restaurant is on the 5th floor of a building across from Rosa Kaikan. The lunch menu includes three classic dishes - pickled fish, boiled fish, and vinegar stewed white fish - as well as four rotating specials. The interior has a clean and modern feel, with neon signs shining bright. Orders are placed using a touch panel system, but there is no Japanese language option. The "Pickled Fish Set" for 980 yen is a popular choice, featuring generous portions of white fish pickled with mustard greens, served with rice, soup, pickles, and almond jelly. The fish is tender and not too spicy, with plenty of vegetables and a flavorful broth. While not as spicy as the "Boiled Fish," which features green chili peppers for a milder heat, both dishes are satisfying and come with tasty rice. Overall, Zhuge Kaoyu offers a delightful and affordable dining experience in Ikebukuro, an area known for its diverse selection of authentic Chinese eateries.

I learned about the hidden depths of Ikebukuro. Eating and drinking to our hearts' content with 6 people cost only 13,000 yen, which is amazing value. The service may be lacking, the order of dishes may be mixed up, and they may say that certain items on the menu are unavailable, but that's all fine here! We drank a lot of beer and ginger highballs, but when we realized the bill was surprisingly low, we found out that drinks were priced from 100 to 250 yen per glass. Fantastic!

The taste is authentic. I think the way Kaoyu is cooked in Chinese restaurants is pretty much the same, and the prices are also similar. Two women had Kaoyu, a main dish, and drinks for 4200 yen, which was enough. I felt that the amount of Kaoyu was a little smaller than in Beijing restaurants. There are various flavors of Kaoyu such as spicy, garlic, and Sichuan pepper, but I recommend the spicy flavor the most.

I do not recommend this restaurant to those who are not fond of river fish, but it is not a lie that it is delicious. I recommend starting with the spicy fish dish. Since the fish takes time to cook, it's a good idea to order other dishes while waiting. Both the individual dishes and the Chinese-style skewers are delicious, so I guarantee the taste (as long as the kitchen staff remains the same).

Popular chain store in China. First store opening in Japan, gaining popularity on Chinese social media. The grilled fish is a specialty, I ordered it with garlic flavor. Added ingredients like wood ear mushrooms, wakame stems, and tofu skin. Came on a fancy tray with a small fish, but the added ingredients were minimal. The garlic flavor was delicious! Ordered two types of hot pot, looked like a lot but wasn't actually. There was not much to eat. Ordered a dish of beef tendon and tripe, a favorite dish in Chinese cuisine. The taste was completely different and disappointing compared to what I've had before. Maybe it was mixed up with something else??? If it weren't for the PayPay campaign, I probably wouldn't have gone.

Please make the spiciness higher for those who are used to Chinese food. It was just normal spiciness for Japanese people. We made a reservation for 8 people, so we had a private room. We could freely drink the Chinese tea they brought in, as well as unlimited water from the water server, hot water, tea bags, and detox water. Plus, all drinks were half off for the grand opening! We were lucky!

A new Sichuan-style restaurant recommended by a friend! It cost around 3,000-4,000 yen per person for a group of four. The classic spicy and fragrant hot pot was delicious with added enoki mushrooms and duck blood. For dessert, a mixed fruit plate was a nice way to end the meal. Also, they offer unlimited refills of their homemade fruit tea.

Great taste! Just the right amount! All employees were very kind! Will definitely go back again for the mung bean soup!

I found out about a special anniversary campaign on SNS and went with my friends. All the Chinese-style grilled fish dishes were half price, which was a great deal. The fish was delicious, so we also ordered some other items.
